  • Needs way more cowbell.

  • Thats awesome. I have one for my 3 year old son. And to yahootube, your our definitely an uneducated piece of trash. For your info kids that play with instruments even at 3 they develop critical thinking skills and excellent kinestetic skills and always excel in school and unlike you they usually pursue college and do very well. And since you were raised like garbage I will tell u the life lesson your parents failed to mention. "if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all"

  • @YayhooTube telling a 3 year old he sucks at drums is like telling a 80 year old he's got some wrinkles, either your just an idiot or you dont have a girlfriend

  • Thanks for encouraging this kid to play drums. Too many parents can't handle the noise that's created from kids playing drums, but if he sticks with it, he will always have it with him and no one will be able to take it from him. My father is a great drummer and that has always been a source of connection for us. Keep it up!! I'm sure your son will always have this video to cherish.

  • @drummermylo Thanks for you comment. Kids tend to lose interest in things quickly, but music is too vast to get bored of in short time (at least, that's what I think). So, I do encourage him to try most anything related to musical performance. As for the noise, we're okay with it as long as he wants to keep improving...

  • oh my god how can you stand that noise...

  • NOT CUTE!

  • is it loud in the house? or do you have mufflers or muters on the drums?

  • @smileyfry89 As James gets older, he hits harder. So, yes, it's very loud in the house when he plays w/o mutes. If you look at the follow-up video to this (under Video Responses), you'll see Sound Percussion mutes on his drums. They help w/ the noise level. But as you can hear in that video, the drums are still too loud for apt living, IMO.

  • Mine came with cymbals from stagg though so they were fine

  • Also I have double bass pedal

  • Yes my crash is a sabian xs20 and I added a wuhan china

  • @teratags Ive had a jr. with your specs from pulse. I record with it sometimes but I usually use my other kit

  • @AwesomelyEpic50 I saw the 5-pc jr Pulse kit and it looks very much like the Union. Did you swap out some components (snare, kick pedal, hi-hat, cymbals, etc.) before you started recording with it?

  • weird

  • can u adjust the hit of the drums

  • Those are the cymbals that came with? Those seem waaaay better than the others I have been seeing. My son is 2 & is drum crazy. I drum myself & could assemble no problem.

Would these be sized ok for a 2 year old?

Been between Union & Ludwig & I saw your post.

Thanks for your help my friend!

  • @VAP956 Tough call for a 2 year old. My guess is that the Union and Ludwig 5-piece are going to be too big for most 2 year olds. You may consider going w/ a cheaper 3-piece (bass, snare, single tom) to start w/ your son. He can stand and play until he grows enough to sit and play. And you're right, the included crash is not bad for the price of the kit.

  • Im 5'9" and looking for a cheaper drum set. Im guessing id be way to tall?

  • @blumonkeyboy Yeah, you'll want to look for a kit with a 20" or 22" bass drum. The bass on this kit is 16". Something in the range of the Tama Imperialstar would be good. James's instructor teaches on a Gammon kit. If you need to start cheap, then I suggest a look at Gammon Percussion (or craigslist). Gammon kits start at around $280 for a 5-pc w/ hardware and cymbals.

  • @teratags how about someone whos 5,0?

  • @ipod191 I would recommend looking at a non-junior beginner kit (used would be my route). For one thing, the snare stand that comes with this kit is made for its 12" snare. So upgrading to a 14" means a new snare stand. Next, the bass drum is 16", which is too small for James's Pearl pedal. The mallet hits the bass head high above it's sweet spot. Head over to a drum shop and give a few kits a try. The Tama Stagestar kit has an 18" bass drum, which may work, or try a 20".

  • those are some really good singles man he can keep a beat going really well too. James is gunna be a really good drummer

  • i wish i had 4 toms :( hahahah ;)

  • lol 1:10 raining blood

  • I loved the tom solo :)

  • Thanks. He made it all up on the fly. My only request of him was to hit all the pieces. I'm just glad I captured it.

  • Ladies and gentlemen, I know this little guy and he's either going to become the youngest rockstar known to mankind or a future president of the US (maybe both)! Rock on James!!

  • Given the choice, I'd prefer rock star.. Now, if I could only get him to practice his paradiddles... :) Keep your vids coming, Jeff. James loves to watch them!

  • this kids gonna be good.

  • i can tell his going to be an amazing metal drummer.

  • Most of the junior sets are three piece. Something like this is ideal for kids. I noticed the added floor tom.

  • James started w/ a $60 3-pc set from ToysRUs, but it was really bad. One criteria I had for his 5-pc was that the cymbal was NOT attached to the bass drum. That left 2 options: Union UJ50 vs Ludwig LJR-106. The extra floor tom (cowbell + mini cymbal incl.) was on clearance (~29) at TRU. I bought it for his 3-pc set.

  • The seperate cymbal stand is a GREAT idea and something for me to look for. It teaches them proper cymbal placement and hitting. Thanks for the tip.

  • Also, I noticed the lugs are Pearl copies, which are easily available to replace if needed. The bass drum lugs because of the height might be harder, even something I'm looking for.

  • My guess is that the Interstate Music folks could help out if I ever needed replacement parts.

  • So far, I have replaced the bass pedal and hi-hat w/ Pearl 900 series. The Pearl hi-hat is actually too tall for James, but he won't go back to the Union kit hi-hat. The snare and bass is "boomy" so I taped some tissue paper onto the heads. Tacky, but effective enough for James.

  • Awesome Video! This Kid is Great! Thanks for showing off our Union Drums!

  • Thanks for your comment. I'm about ready to upgrade his snare to a 14". Problem is that the Union snare stand won't expand to 14" and I can't seem to find a stand low enough for James. Does union make a low snare stand that accomodates 14" snares?

  • @teratags no they don't but many other brands do.

  • Mg this kids a pro!

    Hes gonna get famous x!!!!!!!!

  • dude thts pretty big for a 5 year old

  • I guess it looks that way in the video. I had just assembled the kit. After making placement adjustments to each component (the toms are way out of postion in the vid), he doesn't have to stretch out to hit anything. I'll upload a follow-up video when I get a chance.

  • how much was that?

  • Tristonio, please check your inbox.

  • can you adjust the height on that drum set?

  • Yes. James is about 42" tall. In order for him to reach the kick and high-hat pedals, everthing (except the floor tom) is set pretty low. The snare is at it's lowest height, so everything else is adusted to relative to the height and placement of the snare. Hope this helps.
