Taiwan need to built a stronger air force. Taiwan should ask USA to sell F-16E/F Block 70 Super Viper to replace F-16A/B &F-CK-1 Ching-kuo. Also they should ask USA to export F-15SE Silent Eagle. Taiwan should use F-16E/F Block 70 Super Viper against PLAAF J-10B Vigorous Dragon & FC-1 Fierce Dragon. As for the F-15SE Silent Eagle against J-11B Sino Flanker. Also buy new upgraded PAC-3 air defense system.
Taiwan did but US cancelled the deal after China offered trade incentives to US. US is more like trader than freedom fighter. Myanmar & several countries that really need military support never had the chance to receive aide. Will only help if that dictator's country is rich of natural resources such as petroleum. When China condemned US sales of Anti-ballistic missile (Patriot PAC 3 & Aegis SM-3 Standard) to Taiwan as threatening peace, it does not make sense at all. How would SAM that shoots down ICBM that would kill million of innocent considered threat?

The problem is that Taiwan is not perceived being as a strong ally as Korea or Japan. Taiwan went the 'easy way', that is, only lightweight and no core competence businesses, and so businesses became completely dependent on China, unlike Korea, which etsablished a strategic industry according to geopolitical needs. Unlike in Koreas, where government has strong grip on industry, Taiwan cannot prevent such situation influencing (defence) policy.

The past mindset in Taiwan was that it would be better to buy the related items with its then enormous forex deposits,rather tahn to build up a strategical industry base like Korea. Now it has proven that this stance was wrong-nobody sells anything but some electronics/signal equipment to Taiwan and Korea spends 3 times more each year on defence(back in the '90s, Taiwan spent slightly more).Adopting a purely defensive force consisting of TO and air defence would be another option.

Another problem is that Taiwan's current government spends too little on defence.The lack of a heavy industry infra required for domestic production /maintenance of weapon systems(or other industrial goods) should also be a limiting factor.As for the upgrades, there is not sufficient funding for a full scale upgrade.

The US government approved the sales but sufficient funding has to be prepared by the Taiwanese goverment yet.The sales of new F16s is not likely either and, as for the subs,as the US cannot make diesel subs anymore, a design has to be procured from Europe but nobody is going to transfer such technology there. The current air force inventory of Taiwan was procured in its better days, that is, when it spent more in defence than Korea. Now it only spends 1/3 of Korea.

About 100 billion USD of loans repaid during maybe 50 years, with lowest interest rate should work.

It is a historical tragedy that Chinese Taiwanese are set up to confront and to fight mainland Chinese. Taiwanese were recruited by the Japanese Imperial Army as cannon fodder in Japan's "advance" into China during WWII. Taiwanese were also sent to fight for the Japanese in Southeast Asia. Many died for Emperor Hirohito. If war can be set up between the mainland and Taiwan, many modern Taiwanese will once again be manipulated into dying for foreign national interests and ideology. Really tragic.

Taiwan's decline is not an abrupt phenomenon but went on steadily during the decades-Korea, which was the 2nd poorest country, is now a G20 and Greater Power nation but Taiwan, which had UNSC membership, is now losing competitive caspability in its feew remaining industries. So a decision suitable to the current situation is needed-long term loans would be best.

The problem is that Taiwan is not perceived being as a strong ally as Korea or Japan. Taiwan went the 'easy way', that is, only lightweight and no core competence businesses, and so businesses became completely dependent on China, unlike Korea, which etsablished a strategic industry according to geopolitical needs. Unlike in Koreas, where government has strong grip on industry, Taiwan cannot prevent such situation influencing (defence) policy.

The past mindset in Taiwan was that it would be better to buy the related items with its then enormous forex deposits,rather tahn to build up a strategical industry base like Korea. Now it has proven that this stance was wrong-nobody sells anything but some electronics/signal equipment to Taiwan and Korea spends 3 times more each year on defence(back in the '90s, Taiwan spent slightly more).Adopting a purely defensive force consisting of TO and air defence would be another option.

Another problem is that Taiwan's current government spends too little on defence.The lack of a heavy industry infra required for domestic production /maintenance of weapon systems(or other industrial goods) should also be a limiting factor.As for the upgrades, there is not sufficient funding for a full scale upgrade.

@xxwzaebd i think we have a bit of miscommuication on the issue. by upgrades i mean the u.s. sold the r.o.c the technology to upgrade there current f-16 a/b to the more proficient c/d they paid for all that. what they also want and need are the new f-16c/d. not the upgrades only, but the new jets,66 of them to replace there f-5's which are getting too old. the r.o.c can afford the new f-16 c/d as well as the new submarines. but the u.s wont sell them those just yet. i hope this year they will.

The US government approved the sales but sufficient funding has to be prepared by the Taiwanese goverment yet.The sales of new F16s is not likely either and, as for the subs,as the US cannot make diesel subs anymore, a design has to be procured from Europe but nobody is going to transfer such technology there. The current air force inventory of Taiwan was procured in its better days, that is, when it spent more in defence than Korea. Now it only spends 1/3 of Korea.

Read news and check facts instead of putting these and those assumptions. The US has stopped building diesel subs after Albacore and export of dieselified nuclear subs won't happen. European designs cannot be obtained since they won't approve export of their designs for fear of pressure from China. The defence budget has decreased under the Ma administration. The US cannot and will not occupy Taiwan. US Army retreated from Taiwan very long ago.

The only way now is to provide Taiwan with long term, large scale loans not only for the needed weapons items but also for establishing a minimum industry infrastructure for maintenance of existing weapons and manufacturing of new F16s, tanks and subs etc. by importing complete "industrial plants" from Korea. About 100 billion USD of loans repaid during maybe 50 years, with lowest interest rate should work.

客观的来说国军空军建设还是相当完备的，但是因为没有战略纵深，所以一线机场遭到突击以后基本上空中战斗就大局已定了。以最坏的情况计，只要用200枚中程对机场进行饱和打击足矣。当然目前发生军事冲突的可能性不大了。

不仅这样，你们的m-2000本身就不是法国幻影系列里面最新的。而且法国已经淘汰m-2000,把主力战机改为Rafale.
你要是有日本那种美日合作改进的f16 (改进后改名f-2)和f15J机型还能姑且称做有些优势。用的是最旧的f-16型号，f15都没有，还敢吹？

Taiwan and China are brother, we speak Chinese (please research the origin of your "Taiwanese" language before flaming me) and we use the Chinese language. Our culture is similar and we came from the same background. Taiwan don't have to be part of China, but at least corporate with China, no need to dog bite dog, no need to help the outsider to go against our culture. We should join force to protect ourselves from the violent US instead.

大陆人和台湾人都是中国人，都是汉人，都是炎黄子孙！大家吵得那么凶，何必呢？自家人吵，谁看得高兴？还不是那些反华的？大家是否还记得孙先生的三民主义？民族主义，民生主义，民权主义。如若我们自家人吵，第一点就没做到！大陆近20年都在搞民生，近年百姓都渐渐的富有了，而且同时也在搞民权，一系列的民权法案都通过并开始实行！所以台湾人也不必对大陆人有什么的偏见。两岸合璧是大势所趋，只等再过几十年，大陆真正的国富民强了，相信台湾人民也愿意归附大陆。

actually, whenever a leader of a nation in on a airplane, no matter if it's a commercial or military aircraft, it would be caded air force one. taiwan HAD developed our fighter the IDF. isnt china buying fighters from russia?? or at least they did. plus the fighters we bought from US was new. or u wanna tell me how u know it's used?

It is a historical tragedy that Chinese Taiwanese are set up to confront and to fight mainland Chinese. Taiwanese were recruited by the Japanese Imperial Army as cannon fodder in Japan's "advance" into China during WWII. Taiwanese were also sent to fight for the Japanese in Southeast Asia. Many died for Emperor Hirohito. If war can be set up between the mainland and Taiwan, many modern Taiwanese will once again be manipulated into dying for foreign national interests and ideology. Really tragic.

i think we shouldn't strengthen against each other at all. western people shouldn't be so arrogant, and as we have our things the eastern have there negatives as well. why don't we all try to get rid of it and start working together using each others best sides and create what we would 've thought to be impossible.
