I have seen both Dogs and Death Proof (I own them actually) and there is a lot of subtle things in Basterds that reminds me of Dogs and Pulp Fiction. And like I said, Macaroni is essentially spaghetti set in a war setting. The difference is a mere technicality and knowing how much QT loves spaghetti westerns I think they was the more intentional influence.

I am not into blood but I love Tarantino. He isn't the first to alter history. Did Hitler actually commit suicide in the bunker? Was his body actually burned? How many of us were there? It is difficult to distinguish fact from fiction in the books written today, why can't film do the same?
I dunno...it was truly virtuoso film making but it bugged me how he changed history without any kind of excuse. Maybe there was one and I missed it? Metaphor? Symbolism? An Alternate Reality? Inglourious Basterds was better than the Hurt Locker! The Hurt Locker was good halfway through, but fell short, and the ending was fucking cheesy. Basterds ending was fucking BRILLIANT!

I saw the movie the other day. I don't think it is that good. I don't mind Tarantino when he sticks with pure fiction, but when you mess with history, thats another matter. The premise is so hokey, and Brad Pitt is more a pretty boy then an A rated actor. I'll take Dinero, Pacino, and Nickaulson, way above Pitt.

IB is an absolutely hysterical movie. While it has gratuitous violence, much of it, is so over the top that it doesn't create a repulsive reaction when viewing, but instead makes you laugh. I can understand why some might not like this film as if you don't know much about WWII in Europe it would be harder to follow. It would seem like a bunch of meaningless names and blood spatter. For instance they drop the names of Bormann, Goering, Goebbels, etc. They are meaningless names to some...

@BeatenAndTortured Thats not true, his style are changing, Did you see Deathproof or Reservoir Dogs? its totaly different in all his films(a few glimpses). But u have a point in the influence. After all are Italian films. I see more macaroni than spaghetti, the only motive of spaghetti its the story of Shoshanna.

@roxandroy I don't think his style is changing so much as he just has had many different influences from the start. I have seen both Dogs and Death Proof (I own them actually) and there is a lot of subtle things in Basterds that reminds me of Dogs and Pulp Fiction. And like I said, Macaroni is essentially spaghetti set in a war setting. The difference is a mere technicality and knowing how much QT loves spaghetti westerns I think they was the more intentional influence.

@ssszar It's not so much propaganda as it is a meditation on how people from different cultures view the gruesome violence of war. Because it's played out in the form of a revenge fantasy is merely coincidental and that plot element is not meant to be perceived as anything other than... for lack of a better phrase... pulp fiction.

This movie is SO much more than a Brad Pitt nazi hunting movie... STOP PORTRAYING IT AS A nazi hunting action flick.... It's way more of a character developing drama with amazing scripting,writing, directing, art, and cinematography. And the acting is amazing! Cristoph Waltz is sheer genius.

Should have won Best Picture and/or Best Director, if not both! Way better than the Hurt Locker which was still a good movie and better than lame ass Avatar, but Basterds was amazing all the way to the climactic end.
Also, the trailers do not do this movie justice!

We've come to expect great casting things from QT, but Waltz blew my mind. The 1st scene of IB is a model of cinematic tension.

I am not into blood but I love Tarantino. He isn't the first to alter history. Did Hitler actually commit suicide in the bunker? Was his body actually burned? How many of us were there? It is difficult to distinguish fact from fiction in the books written today, why can't film do the same?

I dunno...it was truly virtuoso film making but it bugged me how he changed history without any kind of excuse. Maybe there was one and I missed it? Metaphor? Symbolism? An Alternate Reality? Throw me a bone man. I think this guy is a movie making God and I'm wanting an excuse to appreciate it more than I did.

@ThePhantomBlacksmith He changed the story so he could be free to create his own world around his characters. Kill hitler, stick it to the Nazis, raise questions and create art. There's plenty of excuses but he doesn't need to justify a single one of them, it's what art should do. It's not a documentary.
It's his best film after Pulp Fiction.

@ThePhantomBlacksmith Lmao but it's not convenient because it's drastic and bold. He didn't just tinker with the odd detail to fit what he needed, he totally re-wrote history. He created art by crafting a non-linear on-screen adventure with some fictional and some real-life characters. He gave the impression that his characters could change the course at any given moment and had he stuck to real life completely... It wouldn't be a QT movie. That's what Tarrantino does, he creates his own world.

Inglourious Basterds was better than the Hurt Locker! The Hurt Locker was good halfway through, but fell short, and the ending was fucking cheesy. Basterds ending was fucking BRILLIANT!
This movie should have won best picture, and Quentin deserved best director. He got robbed. This is his masterpiece.

@Bale4Bond Whilst I agree JB was probably his high point, I think IB surpasses KB(s) on just about every level. It's certainly flawed, but the set pieces (as much as they dominate the movie to an extent that they probably shouldn't) are truly extraordinary.

This film was totally original! I honestly think that Tarantino out did Tarantino this time around! War is ugly business... this war had to fought! The world could NOT allow Hitler to continue his Reign of Terror! He had to be stopped... it was bloody, but necessary. I think this film shows that perfectly... all the horror and inhumanity to man... this film had to be made now... now while there are those in the world who want to say it never happened... it happened, we need to be reminded!

school, the 1st scene was very good, the bar scene was very good but all together i was so utterly bored with the lack of story that made any real sense. It was simply corny. But i'll say this , Kill Bill 2 was worse , much worse.

I saw the movie the other day. I don't think it is that good. I don't mind Tarantino when he sticks with pure fiction, but when you mess with history, thats another matter. The premise is so hokey, and Brad Pitt is more a pretty boy then an A rated actor. I'll take Dinero, Pacino, and Nickaulson, way above Pitt.

There were plenty of Germans who did not support the Nazis (and therefore not anti-Jew) including the German Resistance. Also a lot of the population but they were too scared and in no position to do anything.

They were both very down to earth, very cool, and very nice guys...Cool, Gracious, and humble. A true classic. If anyone wonders what this guy is like, he is a class act.

IB is an absolutely hysterical movie. While it has gratuitous violence, much of it, is so over the top that it doesn't create a repulsive reaction when viewing, but instead makes you laugh. I can understand why some might not like this film as if you don't know much about WWII in Europe it would be harder to follow. It would seem like a bunch of meaningless names and blood spatter. For instance they drop the names of Bormann, Goering, Goebbels, etc. They are meaningless names to some...
