Don't get me wrong. Boffer combat is fun! But don't expect to learn history from it. (As a kid, my friends and I had fun running around the woods with toy guns, lobbing dirt-clod "grenades". What we knew of WW2 came from Hollywood.) So what exactly makes these two Greek? A fraternity? That one weapon is far too long to be a sword & he's not wielding it like a spear! If you want to see accurate Hoplite arms, used accurately, search for the vids from these guys: "Hoplitikon of Melbourne."

@CaptainTongue I do agree, was wondering the same thing. It almost looked like some sort of short glaive or one of those "Medieval Chopper" type weapons... definatly not a proper greek weapon.

As to the boffer thing, it depends on the type, Dag and other use a medium weight discernable edge weapon which allows for a freedom not found in harder weapons. you are free to execute what would be a dreadly attack even with blunt weapons/rattan weapons.

I'm not sure exactly what you guys are doing, but it seems like there is a huge amount of sluffing going down. And Brien don't make me laugh, Amtgard actually requires you to dodge and evade attacks instead of taking them until you DECIDE to call it quits.

And that is why I quit the SCA. What is the difference between the two? You think the SCA is more realistic? Well, it isn't. Can you kick the shield of your opponent? Can you grab your opponent physically and grapple? No, you can't. You can do that in boffer fighting.

I'm really tired of hearing the geeks bicker over what sword-fighting is the best. Let me break it down to you...boffers are best if you don't like to wear armor, SCA is best if you like things more historical and arts-based, and live steel is best if you like to hear real steel clashing together in a movie or on stage. We do ALL of it for fun. Unless people like you ruin it.

@AraduinOfRivervale Dude its two fighters talking smack about their respective groups, there really is no comparison, SCA is great with the full armor combat aspect, vs Dagorhir with its sheer brutality and intense full contact nature. both have their strong and weak points.. And besides Dagorhir and similar Battle Games... boffer is a joke...usually the skill involves swinging your weapon in front of you hoping somebody actually walks into it..
