  • Thank you soooo much!!!

  • AWESOME!

  • This is the same technology used to break the captcha that Chris has talked about before.... the id for the vid is KOWDHFOQS04

  • will harry potter font work lol

  • @Hi675445 I'm not sure lol. The real Harry Potter font is called "Parry Hotter" - Google it ;)

  • (Correct me if I am wrong but,) I think you can do the same think with text by right clicking in the browser and choosing "View Page Source." Then if you press Ctrl+F, and type "font" you can get the same thing. The image font method is very cool. There you go, much faster.

  • @cateye27 We don't really use the font tag anymore, so it's a better way to check the css (Inspect element in Chrome / Safari).

  • You dont need dual monitor when you have the snap feature

  • @ivanovandort typing in caps is fuckin annoying, using the word fag is hate speech, and there is no such thing as google explorer. And those admins do not read these

  • Or just use the sites CSS

  • I got a Poptart ad! :D

  • or you could download the site's css...

  • thank you mate extremely useful :)

  • This is cool! Thanks for sharing all you do! ;)

  • Nice!

  • One of the most useful videos I've ever seen on Youtube! the identifont service was dead-on after 2 minutes of questions. ThanQ

  • Why not just check the css? With Safari's or Chrome's "Inspect Element" you can do it easily.

  • Those methods work but trust me just download WhatFont for your browser. You click a button then click the text and it will identify the font instantly. Simpler, easier, faster.

  • You don't need 2 monitors to make this fast & easy. Just open 2 separate windows side-by-side.

  • first

  • What screen recorder is that? Been looking for a proper screen recorder for a long time, but the one you got there seems fairly good.

  • The geekier way is to just view the page source, go to the style sheet in the header and find the font that way.

Yes you will likely have to narrow it down a bit, but in most cases this will do the trick as well. Won't work for an image but it will always work for text.

  • I bought another moniter so that i can identify fonts more easily.

  • Weird. Says "The page you requested (new.myfonts.com/whatthefont) was not found."

  • @ScoRASC Oh figured it out. Case sensitive URL.

  • didn't know this was possible, it's gonna be really helpful

  • This will be really helpful for me.Thanks!

  • This guy cannot say font correctly.

  • this is helpful, thanks!

  • Thats a Wordle!

  • Dude I've been looking for something like this. Thanks!

  • Awesome video. I will use this info nearly every day. Clients think I can pull font names out of my...well you have it happen too.

  • The way i do it is the old fashion way which takes a lot longer. I download the webpage, edit it in notepad and search the HTML tags for the word "font". ;p

  • I'll have to give this ago, been looking for this for ages. For web fonts I use 'WhatFont', it works with Typekit fonts but so far hasn't worked with Cufon.

  • What the f***? :p

  • If you're not on OS X, that's probably Arial. But to identify a font on OS X, just drag the text into e.g. TextEdit.app and Show Fonts.

  • yes its helvetica

  • I couldnt even watch the whole video the way he talks annoyed the shit out of me. Sounds like a retard

  • This is really cool! Thanks for the video

  • The live feed is down =/

  • kinda cool

  • The font wasn't even similar to Helvetica. Helvetica has no serifs, and that font does. Come on... The presence of serifs is one of the most obvious features of fonts and it should have been the first question.

  • cool but I pretty much have all the cool fonts I think are cool for me to use I have at least a good 250 different fonts some I use more than others but some are custom fonts that I created nice tip though I am not sure if I need to use it as of right now.

  • TO EVERYONE:

This is an easier way: Copy the text, paste in Microsoft Office Word, and you're done.

idk why no one thinks about this. Idk if it works with other programs like open office and such.

  • @xXZarlachXx wont work if your system does not have the font.

  • @xXZarlachXx People don't think about it because it doesn't work unless you have it on your system. Unless you're a fontophile the chances of it being there are pretty slim unless its fairly common.

  • I love how he says font

  • Thanks, this is great to know, and I will definitely need this from time to time.

  • Thanks for the video and the websites. I have had many occasions where a client has wanted a match to a logo font but didn't know what it was. These sites would have saved me a lot of time in my font search.

  • Right click view source is quicker :)

  • @empireJJ Thats the HTML source code, that won't give you the font type

  • @ultimatevideodude the font type is specified by the HTML and CSS code.

  • @empireJJ Not For Images

  • Yay, a Chris Pirillo video that's not done by Chris himself that people aren't hating on :)

    This looks really cool!!

Are these good enough to tell the difference between Ariel and Helvetica?

  • Great website.

  • Dude! You have the most pronunciation of the word "font" I have ever heard...seriously.

  • awesome tip!

  • hah this is very interesting and very useful thank you.

  • WTF = WhatTheFont

  • @RainoBoy97 Clever. . .

  • @dsidewd this is not even chris ..

  • this is amazing!!! woot!!!

  • XD I have used that site for years! Awesome that Chris is showing it! :D

  • Along with that you can download a Chome extention called WhatFont

    w w w . chengyinliu . com / whatfont . html

^no spaces or create a bookmark from some javascript. (from the same website)

  • If you can control+F a character, you can just look at the css to see what font it is.

  • @PatrickDMTG This is being used as an example. Most of the time this service is useful is when it's an image rather than pure text.

  • thanks so mush great tool

  • thats pretty handy

  • WHAT??? now on Windows???+

  • I have to comment on windows, I love how it's fail enough in that it, they have to open another program to take a screenshot of only part of the screen. MAC FTW!

  • @azsportza It comes with Windows 7, but it's nowhere near as handy as the one built into OSX which is just a keyboard shortcut away.

  • Next step: identifying the color code

  • @Supacalaz I use 'Font Finder - It is a Firefox addon. Highlight the letter or word, right mouse and go to 'Font Finder' and click 'Analyze Font'. The Addon tells you the colour, font, spacing and size of the font. You then can type the font into google and search for the font you need...Simples :) No need to take screen shots or go through long time identing the fonts... :)

  • FIRST TO DISLIKE!

  • Dang iv looking for this thing....for like a year.. thanks ! :D~~~~~~ luv u.

  • Comic Sans biyatch!

  • What is the screen capture tool called?

  • Oooh thank man (:

  • I hope you guys like the new mic ;)

  • the second way does not work!

  • what program did u use to record the video?!??!?!

  • @SaifYazeed Hey dude its 720p so probably Camtasia studios and its the best its what everyone uses from ampix0 to the yogscast, its not free but PM me if you want it for free!

  • Probably Camtasia but you can get a similar program that's 100% and open source called Camstudio, its just as good for a free alternative.

  • 100% free*

  • @LordReserei01 Ive used Camstudio to make some vids but I couldn't manage to zoom in/out. How do u do that!?!

  • I guess that's something to be done in an editing program - which I've always done regardless of using Camtasia (used to use Camstudio, switched several years back).

  • OMG THANK YOU! This is going to help so much with something I'm working on! Rock on Matt! :)

  • Its ok..

  • Civil? this is GREAT!!!

  • @alewisgb It would be if you learn how to use correct grammar right before you put up a comment.

  • @armandornd this was in response to the first comment!

  • @alewisgb Learn how to sue correct grammar right before you send somebdoy a comment.

  • @armandornd do you like being a troll?, a troll that can not spell!

  • @armandornd It's hardly appropriate to call someone out on their grammar with that many typos in your comment, wouldn't you say? ;)

  • This is the first comment. Please keep the rest of them civil and constructive.
