In order, my fav bands: Yes, Zeppelin, Rush, Faith No More, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Garbage, Deftones, Sleater Kinney, and now INTERPOL. I must have been sleeping when these guys came on the scene. In my defense, they never get radio play.
@hulkhatepunybanner I almost forgot - in between Garbage and Deftones was Bjork. These are artists I listened to in their entirety... until the next band came along.
I lived in New York City my whole life. i don't know anything other than the subway, sidewalks and skyscrapers. And if you're walking down times square on a drizzly day listening to this song on your ipod, you realize what it truly feels like to be a New Yorker.
This song reminds me of winter, stepping out of the bus going to see my girlfriend. My mom had just passed away, committed suicide. Cold times...but this song brought me through. Thanks Interpol. :)
@xDeadMisfitsx I was simply saying this song helped through something tough. That is all. Quite frankly, I expected that whole thing to be ignored, which I'm fine with, I don't go out seeking attention and wanting others to feel sorry about me on friggin' Youtube. I was simply trying to express the power of Interpol's music and the way it helped me see my way through something.
I remember laying back stoned out of my mind listening to this song back in 2004 laying on the floor of my friends room. When i closed my eyes i was in NYC most beautiful moment of my life. Never replicated no matter the level of intoxication ohhh to be young again
I wish they would go back to this style... Turn on the bright lights is the greatest album this world has ever seen. If only they'd make another album thats almost as good.
When I listen to this I always remember of "The Catcher In The Rye". Holden Caulfield's psychological point of view makes the reader goes further into a melancholic NY. Anyway, this is the best Interpol song EVER!! <3
Interpol is a band you can never stop listening to. Their music is so addicting. Every album they have brings a new and interesting sound. Love these guys to death.
"the subway she is a porno" creo que esto significa la variedad de exitantes e inoficiosos caminos en NYC que nos alejan de nuestros pensamientos realmente importantes para hacer un cambio
@Aspenshadow721 its talking about pre- giuliani new york of the 90's, when times square was filled with sex shops and the lower east side wasn't a fucking theme park, to be honest, sometimes i prefer the old nyc. but this song makes me love the greatest city in the world even more.
the scene from vanilla sky where tom cruise is running around a completely emptied times square comes to mind as a brilliant visual metaphor for this song. so many people in the big apple and yet it is easy to feel all alone.
He's not implying anything sexual. On the subway you're surrounded by people but you don't know anyone and (like pornography) it can be incredibly lonely. When he says "New York cares" he's being sarcastic, you're alone in a city and nobody cares for anybody else.
I want to say that only true New Yorkers can truly appreciate the perfection and brilliance of this song. But that's not even true. This song proves that everyone has their own bit of New York in them. Well done, Interpol.
This song...I don't think anything I can say will do it justice. It just makes you feel alive, through good and bad emotions. Obviously it's lonesome, and there have been times when I've been depressed and turned this on, or have felt down just listening to it. But I can also feel euphoric, especially from 1:55 onwards. And one of my best memories ever was when I heard the first few chords of it when I saw them for the 2nd time a few years ago. I nearly cried with joy. Fuck I love Interpol.
@x50ftQueenie I love it when songs have the ability to do that. There are times when I only have to hear the first few notes of Homesick by Kings of Convenience and I'm away in my own world where everything is perfect!
hey! even Brad Pitt is a long time fan ! ... i discovered them with this video ...at the time of the 1st album release... and their 1st still my fave Interpol lp... their concert in Geneva in 2003 was really good and i have the tracklisting sheet ...Paul Banks pass at one meter from me at the entry of the club and i was quite suprised 'cause he's not very tall i think, maybe like noel gallagher (1m72).
It s often like that... alot of people imagine some "famous" people bigger than in reality
My favorite band with Rage Against The Machine.... finally saw Interpol last month in Minneapolis.... They aren't mainstream IMO.... but man..... they are by far one of the best bands that sound sooooo much better live.... Interpol 4E
This song makes me love NYC and I've never even went there once haha :) Good job Interpol.. As always. I saw them live thrice in Montreal and they only performed this song once... but it blew my mind forever!

the candid eye contact between strangers on the subway.
