  • My favorite Interpol track.... if you like this then check out Moscow Metro- spirit of a city... great band too.

  • Still after all this time, this song makes me cry.

  • It sucks that they took down the fan-video with all that footage of midtown New York. I liked it better than the official video!

  • I want this on HD!

  • Why only 161 614?

  • "I know you supported me for a long time somehow I'm not impressed"

this song is a hymn, in its own way

  • New York

  • No matter how fucked up the world gets, bands (and songs) like this give me hope that everything will be ok.

  • if there was one track that couldn't come out jamaica, this would have to be it.

  • I can't listen to this song, or "Ashes of American Flags" by Wilco, without thinking about 9/11 . . .

  • Rock isn't dead, it's just a lot less obvious.

  • One of the best New York-related songs ever!!!

  • "the subway IS a porno"

    never forget that!

  • just 141 236?

  • @JEOFF59 go away

  • In order, my fav bands: Yes, Zeppelin, Rush, Faith No More, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Garbage, Deftones, Sleater Kinney, and now INTERPOL. I must have been sleeping when these guys came on the scene. In my defense, they never get radio play.

  • @hulkhatepunybanner I almost forgot - in between Garbage and Deftones was Bjork. These are artists I listened to in their entirety... until the next band came along.

  • It's up to me now, turn on the bright lights. Thank you, Interpol.

  • Especially pertinent this weekend. Everybody living in this great city stay safe and stay strong.

  • 5 assholes

  • I lived in New York City my whole life. i don't know anything other than the subway, sidewalks and skyscrapers. And if you're walking down times square on a drizzly day listening to this song on your ipod, you realize what it truly feels like to be a New Yorker.

  • @TheDonutFox sad.

  • @szturmixon Not at all.

  • man these guys have hairstyle taste

  • I love the sadness in this song.

  • Saw them yesterday for the first time in Israel. I am more inlove than before.

  • Great!

  • 'I'm sick of spending these lonely nights training myself not to care.'

    epic.

  • I had seven faces, wish I knew which one to wear... Sick of spending these lonely nights training myself not to care.

    Stunning.

  • I still think, this is their best song and their best album and they has gone downhill since

  • @shproot yup,but i will never stop listen Turn on the Bright Lights

  • one of the best songs on planet earth

  • somehow im not impressed.... great lyrics

  • when I listen to this one,I listen to it like 100 times...I love it!! Love Interpol!!

  • interpol rule....this song is epic....

  • In the center of the cube I am everywhere, cornered.

  • This song reminds me of winter, stepping out of the bus going to see my girlfriend. My mom had just passed away, committed suicide. Cold times...but this song brought me through. Thanks Interpol. :)

  • @ColonelBolognaJr97 Really sorry to hear that. :( Hope things are getting better for you now...

  • @xDeadMisfitsx I was simply saying this song helped through something tough. That is all. Quite frankly, I expected that whole thing to be ignored, which I'm fine with, I don't go out seeking attention and wanting others to feel sorry about me on friggin' Youtube. I was simply trying to express the power of Interpol's music and the way it helped me see my way through something.

  • indeed,,,we surprise the world with our weaknesses,,,we can rise to open another ,,,

    i invite abuse

  • I remember laying back stoned out of my mind listening to this song back in 2004 laying on the floor of my friends room. When i closed my eyes i was in NYC most beautiful moment of my life. Never replicated no matter the level of intoxication ohhh to be young again

  • i coulda swore paul said life is like a porno

  • Paul is so beautiful, also Interpol songs! :)

  • FUCK YEAH, GO NEW YORK!!!

  • i luve them

  • I'm sick of spending these lonely nights, training myself not to care. Woah!

  • this song makes me really cold

  • I kinda like the new Interpol... but this is definately what I miss from their new stuff.

  • I must admit, Paul saying "porno" is quite the turn on.

  • @LoganLeeCloud It does say that, look it up :)

  • ùhm_ì_fèÉl_sö_lonèlY_t0DAÿ

  • @LoganLeeCloud

he does,,it means like there are prostitutes or something :)

  • @Chriskroupa No he means the subway is giving to so many people and it's unappreciated, just like the rest of the city.

  • I LOVE IT <3

  • their best song, RIGHT ?

  • @any0ne Yes. No question about it.

  • JOY DIVISION RISEN

  • I like how they reference Turn on the Bright Lights in this song. Cool.

  • amazing song...epic is word

  • I wish they would go back to this style... Turn on the bright lights is the greatest album this world has ever seen. If only they'd make another album thats almost as good.

  • @brandondittman They did. It's called Antics.

  • very nice!

  • When I listen to this I always remember of "The Catcher In The Rye". Holden Caulfield's psychological point of view makes the reader goes further into a melancholic NY. Anyway, this is the best Interpol song EVER!! <3

  • the only band I've listened to for 15 months

  • Why am I always suddenly emotional when listening to this? Beast track.

  • probably one of there best, Turn on the bright lights is there best album!

  • Strong lyrics, love them.

  • i can't believe i've never seen this video before! it is awesome

  • 69 vieweres;)

  • @DrunkenShadowMonkey Hehe yeah i know, i said 'this' as in '+1' :)

  • Hairs on my arm stand on end everytime I hear this.

  • Interpol is a band you can never stop listening to. Their music is so addicting. Every album they have brings a new and interesting sound. Love these guys to death.

  • This is the only Interpol song I've heard that I like.

  • @sHART1780 Impossible

  • extreme melancholy...

  • i love his voice...like it just goes with the music y'know?

the vocals melt with the music making it one very...sweet emotion.

and that's why i'll always love interpol.

  • Awaiting them RaR'11!

  • ny doesn't care about 2 people

  • Still LOVE this song.

  • pure love

  • "the subway she is a porno" creo que esto significa la variedad de exitantes e inoficiosos caminos en NYC que nos alejan de nuestros pensamientos realmente importantes para hacer un cambio

  • if new york city was this sad,,i think it would be the most beautiful place in the whole world.

  • @reinahuesos Indeed...

  • The time signature, the drums, are insane!

  • subway is a porno

  • great song.....

  • Do you people even listen to the lyrics of this song? It's satirical and highly critical of NYC.

  • @Aspenshadow721 its talking about pre- giuliani new york of the 90's, when times square was filled with sex shops and the lower east side wasn't a fucking theme park, to be honest, sometimes i prefer the old nyc. but this song makes me love the greatest city in the world even more.

  • @Aspenshadow721 Man, I would say that, but after I read your comment, I dont need to say anything else, congratulations, Banks is a Genius

  • amazing song :)

  • the scene from vanilla sky where tom cruise is running around a completely emptied times square comes to mind as a brilliant visual metaphor for this song. so many people in the big apple and yet it is easy to feel all alone.

  • @nelson2k

He's not implying anything sexual. On the subway you're surrounded by people but you don't know anyone and (like pornography) it can be incredibly lonely. When he says "New York cares" he's being sarcastic, you're alone in a city and nobody cares for anybody else.

  • I want to say that only true New Yorkers can truly appreciate the perfection and brilliance of this song. But that's not even true. This song proves that everyone has their own bit of New York in them. Well done, Interpol.

  • "the subway she is a porno"

    wtf does that mean... LOL

  • @nelson2k i always laugh at that too but

i think he means to reveal the subtle sexuality in train rides.

im not talkin about boners or staring at racks, but

the candid eye contact between strangers on the subway.

its mysterious, friendly, and in his words a "porno" hahaha

  • I am "interpolholic" thumbs up!!!

  • @quivedder Fuck yes man, they are the greatest EVER

  • they need to turn on the bright lights again, BADLY

  • awesome song and video

  • great song

  • This song...I don't think anything I can say will do it justice. It just makes you feel alive, through good and bad emotions. Obviously it's lonesome, and there have been times when I've been depressed and turned this on, or have felt down just listening to it. But I can also feel euphoric, especially from 1:55 onwards. And one of my best memories ever was when I heard the first few chords of it when I saw them for the 2nd time a few years ago. I nearly cried with joy. Fuck I love Interpol.

  • @x50ftQueenie I love it when songs have the ability to do that. There are times when I only have to hear the first few notes of Homesick by Kings of Convenience and I'm away in my own world where everything is perfect!

This song is so amazing too.

  • @sorourke4 Thanks, glad you agree with me. :)

  • hey! even Brad Pitt is a long time fan ! ... i discovered them with this video ...at the time of the 1st album release... and their 1st still my fave Interpol lp... their concert in Geneva in 2003 was really good and i have the tracklisting sheet ...Paul Banks pass at one meter from me at the entry of the club and i was quite suprised 'cause he's not very tall i think, maybe like noel gallagher (1m72).

It s often like that... alot of people imagine some "famous" people bigger than in reality

  • My favorite band with Rage Against The Machine.... finally saw Interpol last month in Minneapolis.... They aren't mainstream IMO.... but man..... they are by far one of the best bands that sound sooooo much better live.... Interpol 4E

  • directed by doug aitken...one of the best videoartists.

i think credit should be given to him in the description, because this video is a masterpiece of the 21st century.

  • The intro is nice, with that Rickenbacker chime by Kessler, then the Gibson coming in to double the rhythm.

  • Jeez. What a great voice.

  • The song is one of my Interpol favorites, this video is not.

  • This makes me love my city that much more.

  • One of my favorite songs off "Turn on the Bright Lights"....but like everyone else, I had no idea whatsoever they had a video for this song

  • wow, i am addicted 2 this song and just can't stop thinking about it!

  • @Chemical373g you're so f*ckin' right man!

  • ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffccccccccccccccccccccccccccnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

amazing, wow,,,first time ive seen it.

  • @holkatrol with ya maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn.

  • best music video ever!!!

    I can't stop watching it

I love Interpol and in my opinion this is their best video

Interpol is such a great band and people just don't know about them

    =D

  • I just saw these guys tonight in Allentown PA, it was worth every minute of the 1 hour 20 minute drive

  • very good very good

  • I had no idea Interpol made a video for this song. It was never on their site. Thanks.

  • im crying right now T_T

  • olle buena cansion saludos

  • "IT'S UP TOO MEE NOOOW ,TURN ON THE BRIIIGHT LIIIGHTS!!!!"

    Interpol 4 ever...

  • This song is so beautiful.

  • New York Cares

  • this band is amazing!

  • Wow :o this video and song are so underrated?

I tought it would hae more views! where are all the fans at?

    Love this song so much

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE

and so glad i saw them live. and his voice reminds me of Ian Curtis.

  • @neworder36 now you are into the realms of fantasy. Great song, but.

  • But nothing bitch

  • so excellent, doesn't get any better.

  • Saw these guys for the 2x in Dallas in Feb '03. Amazing. Who cares about the obvious JD comparisons....great music

  • at last, NYC....!

    the best

  • This song makes me love NYC and I've never even went there once haha :) Good job Interpol.. As always. I saw them live thrice in Montreal and they only performed this song once... but it blew my mind forever!

  • @CortoMaltese2699

they performed last night at the Metropolis. It was amazing....

  • @CortoMaltese2699 ha! this song makes me hate NYC. So many people, cars, pavement... definitely not my place xD

  • @CortoMaltese2699 well when you get a chance you should go, winter and summer, either is very nice.

  • @CortoMaltese2699 its not as nice as people say it is

  • Subway is a porno

    Sidewalks are a mess
