  • Also, the first soloist is Jaymi Bandtock, that's right. The second soloist (blonde hair) is Gareth Lowman and the third & last soloist is Matthew Arthey.

  • Is it just me, or does this sound like it comes from Barney? I like the premiere choir that Libera became.

  • @mnbutch Hi, Don't understand the term "Barney". What does it mean?

  • @paulban It's a children's television character. He's a purple dinosaur who sings and dances. You can find an example of Barney on YouTube if you just enter that name in the search bar.

  • @paulban

Hi! Barney refers to a big purple dinosaur from a US children's tv show.

  • Hi,

Hi, believe the idea of the white robes and no socks was to represent the habit of monks from the past. I suspect that bare feet was not at all sensible and white socks were a compromise. Nowadays the boys wear specially made white slip-on shoes.

  • jaymi have a face book

  • Eccellente

  • Wow, this was even before the hoods on their robes!!

  • WHere is Jaymi Bandtock now? is he still visiting St. Philipps? or does he have a family now with kids of his own that likes to become or join in choir like Jaymi?

    CHINO

  • Who's that Asian kid in 1:20?

  • Hi Oliver, I think it was Robert Chee-a-tow (can't be certain). He's given as joint soloist with Gareth Lowman on the second track (Pie Jesu) on their second album (New Day). Gareth and Robert feature on the CD label, sitting furthest forward in the choir photograph.

    Best Wishes,

    Paul

  • Thanks Paul, id Robert still in UK?

  • Sorry Chino, don't know the answer to that but I think it's true to say that most families that emigrate to UK tend to stay here. It's very difficult to get objective information about the early days of St. Philips Choir even though one of our AV Group members is on friendly terms with R.P. :)

  • Robert is now a teacher of modern languages at Winchester College, and yes, I'm pretty certain that's him at 1.20

  • my cousin Andrew was in the St Philips boys choir before it became so famous i can remember going to the church to hear him sing he was about 11 when this was made and im sure he would not mind me saying he had a great voice then and still does now. i remember how excited we all were when the sing for ever album came out cos he was on it and so he was famous. he has a wife and a son now i wonder if little Fred will ever sing for ever.

  • Thank you for your lovely comment. I'd very much like to hear more from you about the earlier times of the St. Philips Boys Choir. Perhaps you wouldn't mind sending me a message (click "paulban" in blue at the right of the video, then click "send message".

  • Was he in the video?I want to know very much about choiristers of pre Angel Voices time. And besides, try to let him think about sending his son to St.Philips!

  • So whatever happened to Jaymi Bandtock? His friend Sam Harper?

  • It must have been so kewl.. so see your cousin's happiness on being a success. How did this effect him? Was there alot of parential or other pressures on him? I think that the young boys singing have outstanding voices, and wish them the best.

  • Who is the black boy who sang the third solo part? From about 1:30to 1:45.

  • Yes it was the 'B' side to 'Sing forever'.

  • FANTASTIC! I think this was the B side to the Sing Forever single wasn't it?

  • Pioneering soloist was Jaymi Bandtock with Matthew Arthey. Both about 30+ now.

  • Great early video - thanks for posting. '87 - I was young enough to be a boy treble at that time lol - Nice to know that almost 20 years down the line, they are still contributing wonderously well to SOP. I wonder who the pioneering soloist was on this video?

  • Someday us "grown-ups" will take to heart the message you so thoughtfully and joyously sing about.

  • Nice Happy little song! The world could use a lot more of today. Peace!

  • Thank you so much for sharing this video!! It's so high quality, I hadn't expected to see that in a video from that era. Again, thank you, thank you!

  • From Songs of Praise Summer 1987. The first time on SOP for the choir I believe.
