I learnt to sing this song in the Fiji Islands taught by a Kiwi (New Zealander) back in 1975. It has been the song that I sing I am alone ever since and or when I am feeling down.
A long and wicked life followed by five minutes of perfect grace gets you into Heaven. An equally long life of decent living and good works followed by one outburst of taking the name of the Lord in vain - then have a heart attack at that moment and be damned for eternity. Is that the system?
I don't think you have to give credit to the composer when you post a YouTube video, but I do know that your meaning would be clearer if you said something like "sung by" or "performed by." Better yet, just leave out the word "by." "For Those Tears I Died" - Donnie Sumner. Then no one should misunderstand.
If people see the word "by," they will rightly think that's the writer. That's the english standard. Search YouTube for the song Jole Blon. You will see different performers but no "by
"Word Cops". That's what we need here. Maybe some brilliant person to monitor the politiall correctness of everyone's comments and replies would also be beneficial. ~ Carry on with whatever it is you normally do.
It takes a great song writer to give the words and music. It takes a great singer to put those words and music into a thing of beauty. It took Marsha Stevens and Donnie Sumner together to make it real. It took Hoover's ability to create this video so that we can enjoy hearing of Jesus's love right here in our own homes.
I've always liked this song. Ever since i was a little boy. Hopefully Marsha(the lady who wrote these words) comes back to Christ. And Ray Boltz as well. Sad, but the ''hound of Heaven'' doesn't give up on those who He's called.
Yep, back again.. I come listen to this whenever I'm having a heavy day of grief.. Of all the versions I've heard - this gentleman has the passion in his voice that so many songs lack.. In music it's called playing /or singing with your heart..
Watts: lol you didn't like the dotted whole notes?
I have always liked Donnie S. ever since I sat in his music theory class in 1970 and argued with him over "dotted whole notes." He has a really great voice.
This song is the one that reached my heart every time I was tempted to give up in my early days as a Christian... it still has the power to move me to tears - thank you Jesus!
I first heard this son in 1973 in So. Cal., sung by a young lady that at the time I was unaware would she would become my wife. I was playing games with God then but after the first few notes, I wept at the Holy Spirits prodding. My bride is with the Lord but, I still remember that marvelous Spirit led voice.
ya know, i'm 53 years old. i first heard this song in my teens, and even still when i hear it i stop to examine my life and ask God's forgiveness again. He is my Rock. I've drawn my water from The Rock.
Moving, tender . . . this could have been many other talented singers if they had only come to Jesus at a deep level. Elvis could have had a great ministry in southern gospel music, Billy Graham Crusades, and so forth. The world and drugs got him tho- sad - what a waste
It seemed such a solemn moment to listen to Donnie Sumner sing this beautiful and meaningful song.. I listened to it again and again. I thank God for using Donnie through this (and many other) songs to bring HIM glory.
The ways of God are past finding out. I love it when someone is singing their personal testimony. Glory to Jesus whose grace in His love for His children ensured that HE never gave up. Thank you LORD for those tears....
If you watch this video, along with his full testimony and "The Anchor Holds"..well I dare you to keep a dry eye. Donnie has been through it and there is something incredibly special and human when he sings these two songs. Thanks again Hoover. Keep it up.
lizzie says great words ,so true as sees all our tears and knows our heartaches, having lost my husband recently dont know how I would feel without my saviour in my life
Just a little extra on the song with Donnie Sumner It also happens to be one of the Signature songs he sings which means he sings it alot and does avery good job doing it. the ninety and sine isalso one of them . He was at my home church July 08 2001 and mentioned his signature songs
I have a vhs tape of it and if i could figure out how to upload it you tube I would share it as wellas James blackwood Jr.
I had the opportunity to sing this song this morning in church. Although I am not nearly as good as Donnie Sumner, I am sure I touched some hearts. PTL
the keeping power is in the LORD and not in any human. It is all for the glory of GOD... God will do what only GOD can do. He who begun a good work, will see that it is finished. don't look at your ability to keep yourself, but rather let your boast be in the LORD...
No need to, assumingly, get defensive. Just thought I'd comment on the fact that it says "For Those Tears I Died" BY this gentleman. I am speaking of giving credit to the composer. No arguing here, hoover.
Beautiful song sung with great compassion. It's wonderful to know God elected Donnie to be used by Him to reach other's to Christ through song and preaching.
Hey can anyone tell me who the guy with the sunglasses from about 2.00 to 2.06 is? I've seen him in a lot of other videos and also the Peasall Sisters Gaither "Church in the Wildwood" video but I've never been able to figure out who he is. Could someone help out please? Thanks!
Donnie Sumner is a wonderful singer. How good it is to hear him. It is so good you turned your life around. God Bless You. I did hear your Uncle JD Sumner was very proud of you. How wonderful it must had been to sing back up with Elvis Presley as part of the Stamps Quartet. God Bless You. Thanks for posting this video.
wow I didn`t know he was back up for Elvis, thanks for telling that, Its great to see so many intertainers coming to Jesus. I seen where the Judd singer was saved also. thats so awesome. she does I can only imagine and gives a testimony too.
mwhh2001, this is a clip from the Bill Gaither and Friends series. What is more important is that they are singing of the God that loves you and died for your sins so you can spend eternity in heaven with him.
Great gospel....:o)
