Wow, I've been pole dancing for 2 weeks and you give me hope! lol.... When I decided to start pole dancing... I came on youtube and started to watch videos.... I fast became hooked and couldn't wait to start.... but when my husband finally put in my pole.... OMG was I suprised... it was very very hard! and painful... I'm down to my 2 weeks count and it's getting easyer...
I had the same reaction. When my daughter helped me film th ebuilding of the first pole in July and I did my first so called "pole dance", it was hanging on the pole for 10 seconds--just hanging, that's all. It was so hard I simply couldn't believe it! I know that at my age and weight, I'll never get super good at it, but I am going real slow and taking it as a fun journey and a way to round out my fitness routine--which never included any upper body work before. Thanks for the nice comment!
Thanks for watching the video, Tighe, and leaving a comment. I also love watching the the fine ladies doing pole tricks--believe me, I spend way too much time doing it--just ask my wife, LOL! My goal in posting these videos was partly to experience for myself how difficult these moves are--in order to better appreciate the sport and dance. I am a fitness buff who enjoys weightlifting, bike riding, and treadmill. Pole is just another way to build some muscle and core conditioning!
Thanks...actually I don't get that many negative comments. It kind of surprised me at first, I thought I would get more. A lot of guys that comment do appreciate the gymnastics and weight lifting aspect of it. A few of them have sent me videos of extreme gymnastics (human flag stunts, climbing buildings...) Some of it is so diificult it looks impossible!
Well fair play to you for keeping a cool, level head. I got angry for you when I read the comment but then when I read your reply I thought "Actually thats a much better way of handling it."
It's actually inside--in the basement. But it's just a piece of hardware--or electrical conduit. It is way to thin--only 38mm (1 and 1/2 inches American) To get to "club standard" I would need a 2 incher. That's close to the 50 mm standard. I'll tear it down next summer and go for the bigger diameter!
Thank you! Hey I read your profile and it was very interesting--especially about liking reference books. A few years ago somebody put an entire bookshelf (including the bookcase) of Brittanica's (except oddly, the "J" volume (!) from 1970 right out in the alley for the garbageman! The books and shelf were in perfect condition. I think it is the 1970 edition or thereabouts. When I am bored, I open an article at random and read it. Pleased to know another reference book nut!
Thank you, Karol. I had gotten so utterly discouraged when I got to the "C" section of your video I thought I would NEVER do either move (Cross Knee sit/release or the Crucifix). Now I know it is at least possible to do one of them. I will revisit the cross knee sit and release again. The raw footage for FAN KICK is already in the clip can, if time permits over Thanksgiving I'll edit and post. That move LOOKED easy, ha ha, just lift the leg up! Boy, was I surprised--harder than I thought!
Thanks, Tara! I'm missing your videos like crazy (but enjoying the re-posts). I'm hoping for success in your search for a new poling venue. Keep us updated on your move and your new plans! Thanks for watching the video!
Super great job on that crux!!!!!!!! I'm so happy for you! It's a wonderful feeling - that first move on the pole! Your corkscrew looks great too (just watched you other video.) That's a lot of work in just a couple of days.
Just a heads up, I've heard that windex leaves a film on the pole and can damage certain metals. I'm not sure if this is true because I have always used rubbing alcohol. Rubbing alcohol can pretty harsh on your skin too. :( a small price to pay for pole though :)
I'm not too worried about the pole--it's just hardware conduit from HOME DEPOT. It cost $25.00 My daughter and I used BRASSO silverware cleaner and then a tube of Crest toothpaste to buff the surface down to a reasonbly smooth surface. Even so, the pole still feels like a piece of hardware, with a tiny seam in it that will still slice a nice little nick in a wedding ring if you're not careful! Thanks for watching the video!
wooo whooo nice job so must be so happy!! Vodka works too I switch when I was pregnant cuz I didn't want to be inhaling ammonia. Plus then you could make a cocktail to numb the pain of poling. lol Just kidding.
The cocktail idea sounds good to me!!--except for that belly bump that I have that gets in the way of the cradle spin and the crunch spin. I think just about anything that leeches up body oil seems to help--isopropyl alcohol, ammonia, ammonia. You're right, though--the odor is a bit hard to take. I sprayed it on my legs, too and after a while it gives you a razor or goosey bump kind of rash!
nicely done joel! liking the set up as well. i bet you could do the inverted crucifix as well..all u need to do is make sure those feet are firmly latched, and dont be afraid to hang the head straight down, (harder part lol) but we'll save that for another day, this was a great move 4 u, i loved it, congrats! ps- sorry ive not een online much i gotto catch up on pms etc. havent forgotten bout ya XOXO
Thanks, Shel! By the way, I DID get the Scorp/Gem tute. It came as a PM video I think, so I don't know if my comments and FAVE setting stuck or not, but I watched it several times and jotted down some notes. When the time comes, I'll have the tips even if the video is down! Thank You so much! I am eternally grateful to you and all of the polers who have been so generous with advice, tutorials, and words of encouragement. By the way, your Wings of an Angel dance was VERY moving!
Thank You so much, Boomloulou! I'm not sure how good I'll ever get--not at leat until I get a better pole set-up. But I really shocked myself with the crucifix. I honestly didn't believe it was possible for me to do it, so I was in a state of shock for a few minutes! It's making me think I will try that Gemini again (but still with my pile of mats, pillows, and blankets underneath, LOL!)
Woo-hooo, félicitations! Ca fait du bien, hein!? Woah, I just audio previewed that and the voice bugged out, lol! I came out like Alvin and the chipmunks but on double time.
Yeah, that audio preview thing is pretty whacked! Thanks for checking out the video! I was pretty amped up when I did the move after about a hundred failed attempts. Hope winter isn't getting too harsh up there yet...we just missed that eight inches of snow by a few hundred miles! It's very cold here today!
thats fabulous joel, well done. by the way what is windex because i hear a lot of people say its good but i dont think its something ive ever seen in the uk? fab crucifix xx
It's just regular old window cleaner in the spray bottle. It has a bluish color and it probably has some sort of de-greaser in it. It's prety harsh on your skin, though!
I never really paid much attention to the condition of the pole, the coating..and all that. But the WIndex did seem to help a lot--it really takes every last bit of oil out of your skin. Not good for your complexion--but great for poling!
Thanks!, Fleur. I don't know if the narrative description was completed yet when you saw the video, but check it out if you have the time. I owe it all to WINDEX. It was a totally random moment while I was waiting for the shower to heat up before work. Yep, I'm still pretty pumped. I honestly never ever thought I would be able to stay up on a pole even for a split second. Thanks for your constant encouragement!
Wack man, totally wack. The funky pink light makes it hilarious. Good job lulz.

Yeah, the red light bulbs are great for the...ahem... "topless" work, LOL! I don't want to over-excite anybody. They keep the lighting VERY dim!
