classic example of talentless lads making a mint !good luck to them!I too know all the words and always enjoyed this song! The English girls were complete suckers for the oul tartan?
I remember this from the Summer of '75 .. also out was 10cc 'I'm Not In Love' .. Capital Radio broadcast the chart rundown every weekday from 5pm .. then on Saturdays there was the Kenny Everett show with Captain Kremen ~ I taped loads of stuff off the radio on my reel-to-reel recorder which is now a musical time-machine. Pink Floyd released 'Wish You Were Here' .. and Abba was constantly in the charts. 1975 was definately a good year for music (we didn't need Simon Cowell - whoever he was)
@Tony07UK that wasn't the chart run down - it was the Capital Hitline where listeneres rang up to vote for their favourite tune - it was a Top Ten presented by Dave Cash - because it was London listener based it meant you could have quite obscure reggae tracks in their sometimes or even non-single tracks on one occasion Stevie Wonder "Isnt She Lovely" was in there for weeks
My sister would have loved U.tube. She was the biggest Bay City Roller fan in the world. I miss her like mad. I am sure she has a better time now though, Hab Dich lieb xxxx
I seem to remember Rolls Royce had just released their latest model the 'Carmargue' when this song hit No.1 so in a opportunistic piece of product placement, each Roller got to sit on a 'Roller' for the filming of this song. Car looked better than they did to be honest !
i'm afaid i wasn't aound during the rollers time, but being scottish, i was brought up with their stuff in my parent's music collection - this is my favourite song of theirs & i had this as the first dance at my wedding
OMG i have so been took back to my childhood and the sad thing is i still know all the words but at least i don't have there posters on my bedroom wall anymore lol x
@geordiegirl41 "I have so been took back to my childhood ......" Ugggh ! I am not trying to be nasty or to take the p**s when i say this ...... but that awful sentence is typical of the way in which 'cool' and trendy teenage kids speak (and text) today, in the early part of the 21st century! But if you are old enough to remember 'Rollermania' - which came and went in the mid-1970's - then you are certainly not a teenage kid ! So why try to speak like one?
Back in 1975, Noel Edmonds was unquestionably a huge radio star. He was the presenter of the "Breakfast Show" on Radio 1, and was a highly talented and immensely popular 'DJ'. I have always respected him as a broadcaster, and am loath to criticise him. However, I must say that Noel could have sounded a bit more enthusiastic - well, a lot more, actually (!) - when he introduced The Bay City Rollers and their # 1 hit single, "Give A Lil Love", on TOTP, back on 27th July, 1975!
Excellent!. "Give A Lil Love" was one of the classic number 1 hits of the 1970's, so it was. The Rollers were a genuinely talented band who made some fine singles and albums. In my opinion, they did not deserve even one-tenth of the 'flack', 'stick' and criticism that they received from the press (and other sections of the media) during - and since - their days in the limelight. Their music gave a lot of pleasure to a great many people. Bless the B.C.R.'s.
As a kid in 1975 I thought Scotland was the main country in Britain. They had a better football team qualifying for World Cups unlike England & Rollermania was everywhere, my sisters walls were a tartan mural.
No mobile phones, no personal computers, no emails, texts, no computer games, 3 channels on tv, I sometimes wish we could back to those days, great memories as a kid, life was so much simpler.
@MultiRetro10 If you went back to those days ,you would have no computor ,i bet you cant go a week without your computor etc, but i know what you mean those days were better ,people were people the world was a much nicer place of course the music was good too
I Hated Pans people and their flesh but Bay cith came I loved them ha ha now Im embarrased I have to admit I really did like them I couldnt help it I was about 13 so a lot of girls that age liked and loved them didnt they???
I wouldn't have had a problem with this song - except that a few years ago, the family of layabouts at the bottom of the garden had a blaring all night party. They were playing loads of Rollers' songs - and this one in particular stuck on my mind! I can hear the ignorant revellers now shouting "GIVE!" and "TAKE!", oblivious to the fact there were people trying to sleep.
It was mainly down to the Rollers, of course, but for exactly a quarter of 1975 Scottish acts were at number one in the UK, and that's a) without the Average White Band, who reached the top in the US, doing so at home, and b) without Rod Stewart being counted as Scottish (which he isn't, and never will be). I'd guess that's Scotland's all-time best showing, but then this was a fairly insular time for the UK charts.
I loved Eric but with Les singing lead vocals on all these song I can see why we all dreamed about them!!!
