  • Finally, ive found a use for that CNC mill i've got lying in the garden ;)

  • Hmmm... totally off subject here but I'm considering getting my cymbals engraved (Because I can). Think it'll affect the sound much? I'm only using Planet Z's at the moment so if it wrecks them... well... not really much of a loss.

  • @Seffyr

Should be no loss of tone in my opinion, but it would depend on where, how deep, etc. Laser engraving? No prob. If you interrupt to much of the tonal groove pattern, you will definitely hear the difference. Hope that helps! Greg

  • i wonder how much my cymbals now, it is cracked now, help me guys i have a videos there in my channel > playlist "HOW MUCH MY CYMBALS NOW?" thanks guys

  • @jayemhellbender What is he saying here?

  • well how about learning the stick technique so that you don't have to break one in the first place. worked for me...

  • It would be great to actually hear the cymbal after it's been repaired - thanks for posting.

  • Ok ill just get my computer drill and, WAIT!!! I dont have one...

  • what if i just weld the crack shut?

  • You also can take a rasp and than you rasp through the edge of the crack.

  • would a dremel work?... despite the fact i dont have a steady hand its the best i could do :P but after the crack is out does it still sound the same? cause i have a Zildjian 16 in crash and it has 4 cracks in it :O 2 of them are like 3-4 in and the other two are a little less than an inch and a month ago i emailed Zildjian but they never emailed me back so.... i wanted to do it myself

  • @66justbecauseican66 No, it will in no way sound the same. the tonal and structural quality have been compromised by the crack. It could still sound really cool.

  • haha i had a cracked, and torn, yes torn 16" b8 thin crash that i got for free. and i took it to shop and cut out a whole inch around it with a hand held plasma cutter, making it into a 14' crash. and it sounds amazing! i love it soo much! making a smaller cymbal out of one is alot better than this way. i also started experimenting with hammering my cymbals, it makes them alot darker and have better tone. if you have any questions message me :)

  • how much dus da reperation cost if u use credit card?

  • where can i find someone to rapir my crahs cymbal 15"

  • @hybridassassin1991 Your grammar is hilarious.

  • @DieHardGardenFan

    lol ..

    Sorry bout' my bad writtin'...

    i'm a lil' aight...

    always ^^

  • where can i get this done.

  • thank you you helped me a lot with my cracked cymbals^^ thx

  • Hola a todos. hago el mismo trabajo en Rosario, Argentina.

Tengo fresa CNC mas no tengo forma de filmar... si varias fotos, solicitar

  • could you please tell me EXACLTY what that machine is called, including nick names & OR abbreviations, I am going to buy one,GREAT investment!

  • Its probably A P-CNC, i wouldn't get one unless you know how to write G20 code, But thanks for the video im going to go ahead and bring my cymbals and use the CNC machine at school

  • That, my friend, is a vertical CNC mill. A low end USED model could set you back about $10,000. The, you have to buy the cutting tools etc. You'd have to repair a buttload of broken bronze to acheive any kind of reasonable cost benefit structure. Why not do what Danny Carey of Tool did with his broken bronze... smelt it down and cast into your own custom drum shells!

  • cnc cutters, yeah sure its a great investment...

they cost about 100000€ en are the size of my bedroom.

  • Do you have any advice for repairing minor keyholing on a ride cymbal? There are no cracks and the hole is circular. But the inside edge is rough. Should I sandpaper the edge smooth?

  • ya maybe. hell maybe it would sound good.

  • wut i did is put a rubber grommet on the inside of the hole, it atleast will keep it from getting any worse

  • haha dude not everyone got a cnc cutter :P would be helpful though

anyone else got good tips for broken cymbals, without the cnc cutter? :P

  • Comment removed

  • povero piatto...

  • lol gd but u need new cymbals enyway

  • So the answer is to buy A $100000 machine to fix A $150 Cymbal

  • hahaha nice one

  • hahahahahaha

  • exaaactly

  • lol well said

  • the correct form to repair the cymbals

  • Yeah, no kidding. We ALL own a CNC machine like that, sitting in our workshop. LOL

I get the same results with a Dremel rotary tool and some needle files--but it takes a helluva lot longer. :)

  • how and where the fuck are u supposed to get a machine like that???

  • were am i supposed to find one of those machines...-_-

  • y not just soldier if its a hariline

  • i have a half inch crack in a zildjian,it doesnt spread but can i just grind it with a cut off tool?

  • take a post drill, fix the cymbal on it and turn the post drill on. Than hold something to grind on the cybal and grind your cymbal a half inch down. But be careful of the spinning cymbal, it can be very dangerous for your finger!

I have done it too, it works!

    But keep careful!

And do not use sand paper!

  • anyone think it would affect the playability of a hi hat if one of the cymbals has a chunk out of it?

  • absolutely, but it depends on the type of hats you have and how big the crack is

  • why buy a new/used cymbal when you dont have to?

  • hey that would totally help if I had a drill thing like that. but i dont, so can you send me one?

  • they're saving money

  • buy used.

  • they are still saving money buy not buying anything at all...

  • wanna fix my 7 broken cymbals lol

  • yea cos we all have fuckin computer drills lying around...

  • what, you dont have one in your living room? what kinda stone age neanderthal are you?? gosh! get with the times man! next youll be saying you dont have a time machine watch...

  • @drummerdick8290 HAHAHAHA!!

  • @drummerdick8290 you can use a fucking metal saw!

  • What kind of business would you go to, to get the cymbal cut like that?

  • crazy

  • That background song is great, speedmop? I'll have to check it out.

I am wondering what kind of business I can find one of those machines at?

  • i know how to fix cracked cymbals... but how do you fix bended edges of the cymbal??

  • slide the bent portion off the edge of a table and gently push it down with your hand

  • how would i fix a zbt 16" crash with a two inch crack without having to go into major surgery?

  • Brazing or cutting. Not many other options unfortunately. I don't like the brazing option, although some guys get good results.

Want more bad news? The cost of repair almost always rivals replacement. Lame. I finally switched to A's and break less sticks and cymbals.

  • i'm SOOO lucky, in all my cymbals i've had over the last 13 years, i've never cracked one, hopefully I didn't jinx myself

  • I didn't hear you say anything.......

  • @sgtpepper1138 shit thats lucky in 2 years ive cracked a sabin b8, Zildjian 18 rock crash and a Zildjian 20 crash

  • @AJCMovies Yup, all my cymbals are still going strong (22" K custom Med. Ride, 14" AAX studio hats, 8" & 10" AAX splashes, 16" AA Rock Crash, 17" AA Thin Crash, plus more) actually you can hear them if you click on my channel.

  • @sgtpepper1138 cause for those 13 years u never played =D

  • @ragnaroksama Riiighhhttt....:)

  • i cracked my cymbal! shit!! i have to repair it just like this.DDD

  • What is this machine called? It seems like a brilliant way of fixing your cracks. :D

  • It's a CNC controlled router designed to cut exactly what you want, where you want. I happen to have one for my work but believe me...I didn't get it to fix cymbals :) That part was a happy accident. It does work really well though for broken cymbals.

  • if you drill a hole the end crack then it will bring back most of the tonell quality, the size of the hole varys on the size of the crack

  • You're right....except for me, the hole eventually redirects the crack into a different direction. It stops it for awhile, but then the crack re-appears out of the drilled hole again. This method completely removes the cancer, and because it's cut and cooled using -30 degree air, there is no heat during the cutting, which further preserves the original tonal intent of the manufacturer. Rock on!

  • lol.. wow yea thats one way to do it! lmao..

  • We laughed our asses off too. Now we all just walk around in circles due to our lack of ass.

Side benefit: No ass= more comfortable drum throne.
