  • IF YOUR 4 X 4 IS TOO LOOSE. TAKE SOME CRC SILICONE SPRAY AND SPRAY ALOT INSIDE THEN !!!DONT!!! MOVE IT AT ALL. it will make it alot tighter

  • can i do this and thrawst's mod?

  • lol i have the same deoderant!!!!!

  • u shuld take it apart cuz it is VERY easy to build back up srsly at first i thought its hard but its not :)

  • I foun another good mod. the mefferts is better because the core is tighter.

i took apart my rubiks and tightened the screws.

i also super glues the wiggling pices and it never pops

  • y not just take apart the whole cube and sand down all the corners and then put it back together

  • I've used Thrawst's method and this one, as well as sanding the edge pieces. In other words, I've rounded off nearly every corner of each cubie. It's a lot of work, but it has payed off. With some more silicone applied, I've dropped my time by several seconds. The cube feels great and there are fewer lock-ups.

    5/5 =D

  • after you've done this, take a woolen sock and rub the pieces around it to make them fully smooth again in stead of rough

  • can i use a nail filer?

  • Can you do thrawsts way and your way on the same cube?

  • yes since they mod different peices

  • Also how much (in measurements) did you have to sand? I have sanded quite a bit but it still locks up a lot. ( I have lubricated it with crc)

  • not really a measurement just so that it isnt pointed. make it a gentle curve.

  • best mod ever

  • hey what happens if u lubed the cube first ( with the rbix brand lube) would it affect it? because the lube doesnt make it slimy / sticky or anything

  • i am not familair to the rubiks brand lube but if it doesn't make it slimy or sticky, i would suspect that all you would have to do i re-lube the sanded bit. If you are sanding with the lube already on, be careful not to get to much dust on the peices.

  • I had a tube of that stuff as a kid when I first started getting into cubing. It's basically a wax that sticks to the pieces and makes it turn smooth, but it wears off a litle too quickly. I'd think that the "flash" would make it scrape off faster then it normally would. So I'd recommend sanding the pieces first, cleaning the dust off of them, then lubing it. But like Zarker said, if you already have it on, careful with the dust. The lube rubs off with a cloth if you try to dust the pieces. :(

  • i didn't know you had that many rubix cubes... dang man

  • cool vid!

  • there is one corner part of the edge peices that can be sanded, not really necesscary though.

  • Oops! I didn't know you replied! Sorry, I didn't respond sooner, but I didn't know, lol! I finally got around to doing the mod and OMG it is so much better! I sanded the tips on the "holding tabs" of the edges along the half-line cuts of the cube and the corners as shown! Astoundingly, my times have dropped by about a minute! o_O O_o I couldn't believe how much better it is! Granted it DOES still lock up a bit like you said, but it's still WAY better! Thanks so much! :D

  • I even feel like making a "video responce testimonial" sort of thing to spread the word because it worked out so well, lol!

If I made one, would you accept the responce? After all, what's the point of making one if it won't be accepted right? lol!

  • Sure, i will let anyone make a video response to it.

  • Cool! I'll have to make one then! This mod is VERY worth it! I'll just need a bit of time of course. :P When I upload it, I'll respond to this when I can. :D

  • OK I made the responce video! It's around 5 minutes long so it'll take a while to upload. Sometime tomorrow If all goes well (NOT getting upload errors, lol!), I'll add the annotations, a description, tags, etc. then I'll respond to this video. :D

  • I approved it. Thank you again for making the video response! : )

  • Thanks for the approval! And you're welcome for the responce! A good mod deserves recognition! :D

  • Hmmm... why didn't I think of that! I've had part of my cube apart before to replace a broke center piece (I hate when that happens!) and noticed those corners looked very sharp and out of place compared to the other, smooth pieces.

Also, what did you mean "one side at a time"? I thought you were just modding the corners. If so, you could put together the layer you had apart, then flip the cube over and do the same with the other side. Did you mod more pieces then just the corners?

  • Oh and I did read the description, but I'm not sanding centers, they're just WAY too delicate on their own, let alone with more plastic sanded off them, lol!
