Before the civil war (1860) was Americas military strength as comparable with britain, france and prussia? I heard that britain actually took a great deal of interest in the war? Such as they sent advisors and such, but did they ever lend money, supplies or arms to the south?

@shields817 the government didnt, but they did send military advisors and supplies. But not weaponry...too expensive.

Possibly the South's biggest objective throughout the war was to receive help from Britain. as a result, it quickly became Lincolns biggest objective to stop that from happening. originally the civil war was fought over economic policy. the emancipation proclomation was a genius move by Lincoln to play on foreign morals, because by helping the south they would be supporting slavery. after that, Europe stopped giving support to the South, and let the North do its thing.

@MrMcGale i would allow slavery but allow the slaves to leave if they wished, and give them aroom in my house, so it's like having a farm aid in a way.

@bestowner767 True. Britain's awesome. One of my favourite places. And have you seen the movie "Confederate states of America"? It tells about the USA if Lincoln wouldn't have won. As for one thing, USA would've had conversations with Hitler, and Hitler would've visited USA.

I will be doing a Civil War Reenactment for the first time this weekend at Jeb Stuart's birthplace as Union, I can't wait. I will be listening this on the drive to it. They basically will give my friends and I Uniforms, guns etc to use this weekend(What more can a poor college kid ask for?).

I've been to Charleston, and I've looked out over the harbor and wondered at the people who stood there during the war, how many died there, how many lives were hurt over what happened there. Change had to come. It's just too bad it took so many dead to bring it.
