Don't mean to complain, but (a) this is not the soundtrack recording -- it's a band arrangement (excellently played); and (b) I'm pretty sure the last part of the suite (from @7::00 on) is actually a portion of Randy Edelman's GETTYSBURG score.
@glossybutton - thank you Glossybutton for your upload - watched the film last night - can't believe it's been made 20 years ago and it's still so beautiful - the music theme Gael is so inspiring. I also watched the Edinburgh Tattoo in the rain in 2008 and The Last of the Mohicans was played there and marched to.
@mac231208 Actually 6:11 on to the end is from This score. It's played in the scene when Duncan is going to see Cora near the beginning of the flick. He's in a stage coach holding a locket with her picture in it. It's always been one of my favorite tunes in one of my favorite movies of all time.
Glossybutton, I have a blog site that talks about films. I did a page recommending the great LAST OF THE MOHICANS and included your video as a link. You did such a beautiful job with both the film editing and music compelation that I couldn't see how I couldn't show off this masterpiece any other way! Thus only a century after the independence of the colonies of North America from the Atlantic to the Pacific was in the hands of former colonists who had swept the indigenous population that lived thousands of years
except perhaps the crown by fear of growing economic power and population of these colonies will want time to stop the march to the west by restrictive laws may be arbitrary and serve as a pretext for the settlers ever eager to land will not hesitate to turn against their rulers legitimate and against their mother country to satisfy their thirst for power and conquest.
In fact the war in America began in 1754 two years before the official start of the conflict! The rivalry between the two colonial powers on the one hand, and especially the willingness of the English colonists (later Americans) to move still further west are the main causes!
In any case, this war will be the beginning of the end for the Indians since once defeated France there'll no longer foreign power that could stop the westward march of English settlers
i love this movie, i love this amazing soundtrack - just touching the heart, i love the natives and the mankind, i love my enemy, i love the way of life from the natives - they realy understand living with the nature and not against it. i love you! peace and namaste!
I have to dissagree. While the soundtrack to this movie is beautiful, powerful and moving, it is not the best ever. (the actual movie soundtrack is much better than this video's version - I'm assuming this is dubbed from an orchestral concert?) The "best soundtrack ever" title belongs to John Barry's score to Dances With Wolves, IMHO...
Love this film. 'Magua' was apparently the Osama Bin Laden of 250 years ago. It just shows how a life filled with nothing but Hatred & Murder never ends well...
@rexbo2000 Great prejudice... British Empire exploited the indians, Magua was a victim who fought against them. His life was broken by the british army... what did you do if you were in his shoes? Yes, he was murder and he hated a lot of people - it wasnt rarely in the history and british and french soldiers and the mohicans were murders, too... But of course i prefer these mohicans:) And this is my favourite movie
Ahhh! I remember the last time I went hunting elk running through the forest top speed making all the noise I could and acting all drematic lol I hope everyone catches the sarcasm, GIMME A BREAK! great film but no one especially native americans hunted anything this way....
"The Last of the Mohicans" took place during the "French and Indian War" (1756-1763) which was before the American Revolutionary War (1776 -1783)
The actual events took place in the Adirondack mountains of New York State. The "Mahicans" were a genuine tribe.
-------
The "French and Indian War" was the American theatre of the "Seven Years War" which was a war between Britain, Prussia, some smaller German states & Portugal, vs. France Spain , Austria, Sweden and Saxony.
@palonejr Well, we were still back in Italy at the time. I had a reading with a psychic that works with police and she told me I was a widow in 1757, NY. This reading was in '87. I always felt connected to these characters; but again this all occurred in my backyard.
Don't judge these people by the "Politically Correct" views of the 21st century. Historical figures must be judged within the context of their culture and historic period.
@BoudiccaBlanc You make a valid point. Montcalm was depicted in history as heroically physically intervening and shouting at the attackers to withdraw. Monuments are erected to his memory. But he knew or should have known what the result would be as a consequence of his order. He either made a colossal blunder in judging the reaction of his native allies or he wanted his enemies eliminated at all costs. Either way, he bears responsiblity for a massacre.
i could not agree more. so epic it is bad for your health. in fact, i watched this movie on fast forward and one of my got lost. so i told it- wherever you go, i will find you!
Saw this when it came out and have ben seeing it the same way ever since...

@68kira - I think it is Apocalypso - a mixture of apocalipse and calipso, an afro-caribean deity who was named after as a dance rythym. Actually, Mel Gibson´s movie is a quite right hystorical apocalipse for the central (and north south American indigenous peoples. As it was the British and French colonization of Noth America for native peoples, that this movie, based on the classicle famous book, is romantically but pungently showing.
@Reppy311 One of the composers is Douggie MacLean, a scotish fiddle player, who named it "The Gael". I learned this by a coment to another version of this movie and song posted here, at YouTube. It´s worth a look at it. Beautifull.
