October 1984 Elvis & the Attraction played every Tuesday (or was it Thursday) evening at the Hammersmith Palais. I was lucky enough to see them the last Tuesday of the month, and it was good beyond my powers to describe. They played about an hour of hits, then Elvis did a solo acoustic set (what a voice), and then the band returned and they did another hour of songs they wanted to play. It was stunning.

In my experience, only the Chieftans and R.E.M. have come close.
