The worse part of the entire experience when you go into the depot, is where they have that stupid restaurant set up by the front entrance...!!! Whoever thought of this idea, and whoever approved this plan to be executed, should be shot...! Not only is it a disgrace in planning, but a lesson in how you can destroy a historic landmark by allowing it! Restore the ticket windows back to what they were in the first place. If you want to eat somewhere drag your lazy asses to a restaurant...!!!
why should it take more than 16 months to have all of this brought together? i would like to meet with the RCRRA and help go over some of the options to bring this together faster
The Depot is a complex of buildings that extends from 4th Street across Kellogg to the riverfront. If we tear down the (well-built, historic and perfectly usable) concourse, we would have to build another to replace it, which would make little sense. Keep an eye out for some upcoming public meetings on the project, which will give folks a chance to tour the concourse and headhouse to get a better sense of the project and the possibilities.
A bus, train, and light rail stop would bring a lot of people but not the 1940's crowds it used to have. If we can move a theater for no reason in mpls, we can move a depot in stp. And the concourse is hideous looking from the outside. Thats all.
I never understood the practicality of using this station for a major light rail hub. They should tear down the over rated concourse and actually move the depot one block south on to Kellogg. A light rail and amtrak station is not going to use that much space and it would look better on kellogg.
