The "creatures" or "crabs" are deep sea parasites that came to the surface stuck in the monster's skin.

Teddy had sent Jamie some sample evidence of the Seabed Nectar and told her not to eat it. Although she ate some out of spite and then I guess towards the end she ate the rest. You can see her pass out in the movie. Wonder if the same happened to her.

I think that the bite causes a wierd reaction that makes the blood in your body rapidly form, which would explain why she began to bleed through the eyes and why her stomach got HUGE. Also the dudes trying to help her actually stabbed her. It's kinda hard to imagine why, but that is my theory :3

If you look it up.......you can actually find the explanation of where it came from...it came from the bottom of the ocean where it had been lying dormant for thousands of years until a satellite falling from the sky (shown in the last video clip right behind beth and rob who are on their vacation) crashes into the ocean and disturbs it ... so it's not really an alien. Idk why Marlena exploded but it certainly added to the HOLY SHIT factor of the movie.. love this movie! Woulda been cool in 3d..
