I am in contract to join the Air Force under Security Forces. Going to basic in a week. I would like everyone to know that is in the same situation to not take these comments to heart or make you worry about your future in SF. I'm going in the career field with an optimistic attitude and hope I have a good time.

And to those who wonder why it sucks, it depends where you go really. Some bases you'll work a 16 hour shift 6 days a week and have training on your day off. My job I sit in the middle of nowhere watching tv for 12 hours waiting for alarms to go off because of a rabbit or snow. It gets old quick and there are a lot of stupid things as you'll come to learn over time
@antonio865: they are gonna put you where they need you man. If you don't want to deploy request a northern tier base like malmstrom or minot, but the mission here has it's own set of suck.

Im really thinking about doing SF in January I dont mind standing all day/night in front of a gate in different weather Id rather do that than be dropped into the sandbox. Can you choose to be shipped to other countries bases not Iraq?
Not saying that SF is a bad way to go...if your not PRP (nuke bases) than you have better chance to deploy, other than that a lot of our job is sitting around/standing around doing nothing...so if you want to get paid to do a little training, grab a weapon and post for 12+ hours staring at a plane, gate or fence, go for it. If u do go to PRP base you can always go Tactical Response Force for some more training...But all in all the job needs to be done and im willing to do it

Dont do security forces... been in for almost 8 years now, and shoulda cross trained a long time ago. If you want to play with the cops, you can always be an augmentee... get a career that will actually give you some skill on the outside

I enjoyed my time in, just wish i would have done SERE or TACP. Although AFSF did get me a job with the United States Border Patrol. Now that is highspeed.

@TheCptkrunch13 First of all SF is the AF bottom of the barrel job, you dont get holidays off unless your days off falls on it and most of all they are not promise. If you work at base where your mission is to deploy then you will have your weekends off. If your base is law enforcement then you can count on having one week off a month and working on holidays. Airmen are mostly at the gate in rain and snow. the squadron is going to suck ass (well at least mines do any way).
