Why does Tesla believe they will sell 20K per year of the Model S when they could not sell 1K per year of the roadster (and still can't)? The Volt and Leaf are not going to achieve these sales figures despite Chevy distributing the car through 600 dealers nationwide and already implementing a price drop in its first year.

@FormulaWill That's because the Model S is the strongest, most attractive electric car that will be for the next 4-5 years. The Roadster was too small, and had no roof. The Volt and the Leaf are electric, but none look competitively good or have the range that the Model S offers. In respect, the Volt looks like an American prius while the Leaf looks like another Versa. Neither are that attractive. Also, the S's battery can last it 160 miles a charge, for the base model. 300 for top.

That's nonsense. An ICE car has 5% efficiency from well to wheel. an electric car charged by coal-fired plant is 30% efficient because coal combustion in ideal condition is much more efficient than standin g in traffic lights

Everyone needs to understand Tesla's business model: The Roadster ($100K) was stage 1 and needed to cover the costs of R&D, the Model S ($50K) is stage 2 and more accessible. The next model will be the one for the average Joe at around $30K in 2 years.
