We need to pursue online electric vehicle technology. It's more efficient to move the electricity around than to store it in a heavy battery and move the battery around.
Looks very much like a Jaguar XF which is a good thing. Also although i like the side of how th Fisker look like i much prefer the look of this car, whats the going price for one of these?
An Electric car you won't get beat up for driving? Not just by regular people but Drag Queens too. I used to think electric cars were the gayest thing ever. Not gay homosexual or gay happy but just gay. It looks good like really good designed for car lovers not a-sexual lunatics that think electricity comes from magic
...and what is the uniqueness here (in design)...and how much SO2 and other dangerous matters are produced and spread in the nature so these batteries to be built and to charge them... I'm little pessimist about this topic... :(
as european i normally dont really like cars from the united states (big suv's and energy inefficient cars). but tesla is just freaking amazing, i would love to have this car.
@xilixang999 I live in the US and yes i like the big SUV, most people form Europe don't understand just how vast this nation is from Memphis,tn to little rock,ar is about 136 miles or 2hrs & 30mins if you were to drive though from Memphis ,tn to LA,ca you are looking at 30+hrs
Paid to be built with taxpayer money, at $87,000 a pop. This is such a joke. I'll crawl on my knees to work before I drove some awful electric car. Natural gas and hydrogen sound pretty pleasing but no no no, the dems don't like that idea.
@lg1886 The one with the range that can get you from point A to 100 feet from point A before needing a charge costs $60,000; the one with slightly better range comes in at a steep $77,000 and the one that get's halfway comparable (comparable to a normal car) range comes in at nearly $90,000. It's built with everyone's money, for wealthy people. I wonder if the CEO's $20,000,000 a year comes out of the same check Obama sent to build this car...
@Buttnut105 Name another car with same or better performance (4.4 seconds 0-60), same or larger wheelbase (116.5"), is a four-door sedan, that isn't similarly priced. Considering the technology, the price points seem fair to me. Musk's salary in 2010 was $33,280.
@lg1886 i wonder how many "too big to fail car company" ceos got paid with our money.. just so they could produce the same crap that got them in the situation they were in , in the first place.electric vehicles will get cheaper and will be affordable. just give it some time. maybe we should remove some of the 250 fossil fuel subsidies we have in the usa.i don't here you complaining about our subsidies for fossil fuels, i don't here you complaining about how we have to buy our own oil back?
who is going to give them cheap batteries or materials for affordable batterey? AS soon as price of oil go through roof then cost of batteries will shot through ceilings as well.
Why does Tesla believe they will sell 20K per year of the Model S when they could not sell 1K per year of the roadster (and still can't)? The Volt and Leaf are not going to achieve these sales figures despite Chevy distributing the car through 600 dealers nationwide and already implementing a price drop in its first year.
@FormulaWill That's because the Model S is the strongest, most attractive electric car that will be for the next 4-5 years. The Roadster was too small, and had no roof. The Volt and the Leaf are electric, but none look competitively good or have the range that the Model S offers. In respect, the Volt looks like an American prius while the Leaf looks like another Versa. Neither are that attractive. Also, the S's battery can last it 160 miles a charge, for the base model. 300 for top.
Gasoline refineries is one of the largest users of electricity. It takes about 5 kWh of energy to refine a gallon of gas; that much electricity would get you 20 miles or more with an electric car. FACT.
false, you can make a charging car act like it is helping the grid instead of straining it, after all its a giant battery and big batteries are already used by the grid to suppress peak of electrical consumption during peak hours
@drnoob79 Pricing has been announced at US$57,400 for the base-level model with a 160 mi (260 km) range, US$67,400 for an intermediate model with a 230 mi (370 km) range, and US$77,400 for a high-end “Signature Series” model with a 300 mi (480 km) range.[19]
@drnoob79 That's perfect. Soon, there will be fast-charge stations along major highways, and you'll be able to drive the Model S for 300 miles, plug it in for 30 minutes while you stretch your legs and have a sandwich, and then drive the rest of the way. Your cost would be around US$20 round-trip instead of around US$200 for gasoline (23mpg @ $3.80/g).
@Deke1 = fail take 2.. why are electric cars failures? you are obviously very small minded , scared of change and not very intelligent , guessing you are early to mid 20s, swear alot, get violent and aggressive when you drink (moonshine) which is often, seldom shower, pretty rough character in general? and you make rediculous comment like" electric car = fai" .... no mate.... electric car = winning/future
@funksoulblues what energy source is used to make every part of the car, carbon based fuel, what energy source is used to make the electricity to charge the car, carbon based fuel.and it takes the same amount of carbon based energy to produce that energy(electricity) to charge the cars, electric cars aren't the future, do some research...wood burning accounts for more energy use in the US than the 2% of solar and wind combined..if 25% of the cars were electric, the US power grid would fail..FACT
That's nonsense. An ICE car has 5% efficiency from well to wheel. an electric car charged by coal-fired plant is 30% efficient because coal combustion in ideal condition is much more efficient than standin g in traffic lights
if people buy it and never sell it then thats what makes it a great car, still waiting to see how it turns out. I hope they succeed in creating something like the Spiker, in the sense that nobody wants to part with their Spiker. I wish I could afford a spiker let alone a Tesla
"Let the future tell the truth and evaluate each one according to his work and accomplishments. The present is theirs; the future, for which I really worked, is mine"
This car is absolutely gorgeous in every way!! The design might remind you of something you have seen. However, you must experience it in person, to fully grasp just how HOT it really is. Loaded with luxury and designed with comfort. It's a spectacular car!! If everyone would buy an electric car we could eventually free ourselves from the dependency on the Middle East!! Keep going TESLA!
@o0Siles0o Oki let's be proud of it ... realy ? what is special in this car ? the speed ? the line design ? the electric motor ? it's nothing amazing in it ... check when the first EV car was made ? 1931 N. Tesla...

@o0Siles0o Ignorance everywhere...... First, the first electric car was made in 1831. Second, the Ion Lithium Battery (using Iron phosphate particles of less than 100 nano meters) was made in 2004, so it's not even 10 years of tech that THIS care is made with.
Everyone needs to understand Tesla's business model: The Roadster ($100K) was stage 1 and needed to cover the costs of R&D, the Model S ($50K) is stage 2 and more accessible. The next model will be the one for the average Joe at around $30K in 2 years.
electric motors do get hot, so that must be one of the reasons. I'm not an technician, but i think that it must also have a giant resistor to spread the power on the gaspedal. rc cars have them too, and they also get very hot, so i gues that there must be somekind of simmilar components in this car, only way bigger.
I just looked up the leaf and volt to see how they compare and I feel sorry for those who get sucked into the EV hype without looking into Tesla first. After seeing tesla, I can't help but giggle when I see the smart cars putting along. I'm officially obsessed with the Model S and that is good because we get and become what we think about most of the time!
@Cleancutchaos Apples to oranges. Other than the "own it now VS wait until 2012-ish" issue, A Leaf costs about $20,000 less. That is a big deal to most people who work for a living! I admire Tesla's design here, but its out of my range the same way an Aston Martin would be.

@smokingun7 what did they do? People did not give out the same vibe they did today, therefore they killed it off. Buy electric cars, support our manufacturers and they will make more good stuff.
Прекрасная машина - електрокар моей мечты! Beautiful car - elektrokar my dreams! Может быть,если завод фирмы Тесла моторс будет построен например в России ( в Казани) - эти машины появятся для всех желающих, в том числе и я стану её обладателем! Maybe if the plant is the company Tesla Motors will be built for example in Russia (Kazan) - these machines will appear for everyone, including and I will by its owner!
The high cost is due to the fact that technology to produce such a thing for the masses still is in baby shoes. As this technology advances, the price will go down until they are as expensive as gas cars.
Tesla good job, it's rare to see a car like this that's as sleek and sexy. I liken this to maybe a cross between a back end of Jaguar and a front of a Aston Martin. All blended into a beautiful car. You know what I'd love for someone to see someone to power a Tesla Roadster or Model S wirelessly with a Tesla Coil. It'd be epic!!!
The Tesla Model S is a good looking electric car. Other electric cars are embarrassing to the electric revolution . No wonder why it hasn't gone anywhere in the past 10 years. The Government is scamming millions of dollars off Wall Street while the people are in search of a less expensive oil free vehicle.
I've noticed some numptys are all sad because the model S taking shape via live road testing looks a little different to the scale models and completely untested prototypes.
Wise up fellas that is reality with all cars, nevermind a first generation electric family sedan.
I think the car looks even better now (the one seen in most recent road testing). More Nissan GTR and less Mazda 6.
I am very happy that someone could achieve the dream of making an electric car into production. All those big shot companies were failed to launch one..Of course its the oil companies behind the scenes...

You Americans should be VERY proud to build such a fantastic car - it is stunningly beautiful!!! Why don't you export THIS stuff instead of WAR ???

@DarthNefatious S is looking even better IMHO: syIzhj-LrxI

I've noticed some numptys are all sad because the model S taking shape via live road testing looks a little different to the scale models and completely untested prototypes.
Wise up fellas that is reality with all cars, nevermind a first generation electric family sedan.
I think the car looks even better now (the one seen in most recent road testing). More Nissan GTR and less Mazda 6.
