  • Can i play league of legends on this pc? Using setfsb and gamebooster 3

  • 3:09 why forget about Opera? If you pay attention in the task manager (ctrl+shift+esc) when you use Chrome you will see that it tends to open up many processes. Too many of these are bad, processes are basicly things running in the back round and so if you got a lot your computers speed will be affected.

If you were to use Opera, and do the same thing you will notice there arent as many processes as there was when you used Chrome. (Opera uses only 1)

Opera = less cpu usage = more speed

  • SO LOUD...MY DELL MINI 9 IS COMPLETE SILENT

  • @BGFGR lol it's been better since the latest BIOS update.

  • @Repter75 maybe it is better ,but still it is bad.

  • Good choice with the Chrome browser. It's the fastest browser for lower power PCs like netbooks or single core P4s. Both have about the same CPU throughput.

  • I just got this netbook for 299 at best buy and I gotta say. While it isn't as fast as my Dell laptop it's really fast and easy to use.

  • Does It Comee With Windows Sevenn When Yhuu Buy It NowAdaysS???

  • @drcheese2010 Yes it does, but it's Windows 7 Starter. I would recommend XP over Windows 7 Starter in all cases, especially for netbooks.

  • hey do they give u a win 7 recovery disk MY EEEpc 900 seris just died and lookin at getting the 1005 hab or should get the acer version. what pisses me off about it I cant upgrade the hard drive without killing the warranty

  • @6speed5 Honestly, I don't know. When I got the computer, it came with Windows XP and also a recovery disk for that. I'm not sure if the case is the same for the Windows 7 version.

  • Has this unit been upgraded, or is it "stock"?

  • fast loading, must be the solid state hdd

  • @davidkeithbecket Actually, mine has the Hard Disk Drive. I would imagine it to be blazing fast with a Solid State Drive.

  • can i play needs for speed with it? or plants vs zombies? how about gta-IV? i'm thinking of getting this notebook but im also trying to consider how it'll handle games.

  • @janmaomuriano

Need for speed- depends on which one xD

    Plants vs zombies- yes

    GTA 4- definitely not :)

  • im wathin this on mine

  • is there a way of not doing dial up cos it wotn let me on if i dont do dial up

  • mine when i clikc on internet it ses dial up connection what is that

  • Dial-up connection is where you use a phone-line to connect to the internet. If you use a home phone line to do this, it is horrendously slow at 56kbps (~4KB/s).

  • No começo do video o erro pelo daemon pode ser resolvido não instalando ele, tive exito usando o Ultra ISO mas de todo jeito tive que formatar para resolver o problema =/

  • I think your part 2 video got deleted by FOX :o

  • Getting this as an early birthday present. Like 50 days early. And my birthday is march 20

  • @LiviuAsem 1 RAM.

  • ram is 1 or 2 ???

  • what ram ??? its 1 or 2 ????

  • You could have found out by viewing my other videos.

Nonetheless, the computer came with 1GB of RAM stock and was changed to 2GB before this video..

  • its 1

  • Thank you! I am very interested in this model and performance was something I was extremely curious about. Didn't want to make the purchase without seeing first hand. Everything seems to run amazingly well, even fullscreen and hd video streaming.

  • can it play hd videos?

  • up to 720p

If you look at my other video (the video performance test), you'll see the exact specification of the videos I used.

1080p just lags like crazy, but 720p seems to be fine

  • @Repter75 Is that with codecs? Like coreAVC? CoreAVC with Media Player Classic.

  • hi i have a nb200 but it takes 1:35 to boot to win xp. also, i have lag watch HD youtube videos. any suggestsions??

  • i got a toshiba nb200 :)

  • Hey,

Im interested in getting this computer but when I used it at the Best Buy store I couldn't do half the things that you just did. How did you get your Asus to do that ??

  • The one at Bestbuy uses the N270 processor which has a slower CPU Frequency and FSB. Anyway though, specifically what did you try to do?

  • @Repter75 what processor is that?

  • @ColemanSham

    The Intel Atom N280

  • which is better samsung nc10 or asus 1005ha ?>

  • @NothiingPersonal asus 1005ha

  • i just tryed that and i cant find properteis i can find it on the picture but on the main screen

  • Start the computer,

    Press "Start"

    Click on "Control Panel"

If it's available, click on "classic view"

Find "Display" and double click on it

    Click on the "Desktop" tab

Click the "Browse" button and find the image you want to use.

Click "open" to close the dialog and "Apply"

  • If you have windows 7 starter I don't think you can change you desktop background.

  • Confirmed: You cannot change the background in Windows 7 Starter

  • Yes you can with the windows 7 desktop wallpaper changer application i have it now simple click on the exe choose wallpaper BAM ! your done !!!!

its on youtube the link for it.

  • can you play world of warcraft on this item plz let me no

  • dont think so, no cd rom

  • i was wondering if u could give me step by step on how to change my back ground cause im lost and confused thx

  • Start up the computer,

Right click on the desktop (not on any icons)

    Go to "Properties"

    Click on the "Desktop" tab

Click the "Browse" button and find the image you want to use.

Click "open" to close the dialog and "Apply"

  • have you changed youre ram?

  • I got one and love it!

  • You say :

I should forget :I. Explorer or Mozilla Firefox on a Netbook, i should use Google Chrome.

Why ?! Works Google Chrome on a Netbook faster as on a Pc?

  • can you please try playing roller coaster kingdom from facebook, and if possible also show us restaurant city. I bet RCK would give it a very hard time. have u done anything to speed up the netbook before doing all these tests?

    thanks.

  • I'll be frank, even playing cafe world on this is laggy, so I doubt any other flash-based game on Facebook would fair any better.

If you do want something to play flash well, you may want to look into a system with the nVidia ION platform on it. With the newest driver, flash content is actually sent to the GPU (instead of the CPU) for processing.

And the only thing I've done to the netbook is set it to Super Performance mode via the built in Super Hybrid Engine that comes with the netbook.

  • Thx for vid, now i am sure will buy him :)

  • If you're referring to the webpages, yeah you can. Just like on any other PC, you can hold down Control and zoom out.

  • How you can get games on it?

  • If it's a game you can get online like Maplestory or WoW, you can just download it from their website.

If you're referring games that use CD's, you either have to plug in an external USB CD/DVD drive, share a disc drive from another computer over the network, or get an image of the disc and mount it (like iso's via Daemon Tools)

  • so just one question does it really matter if you have windows 7 vs windows xp on this little guy?

  • yup :)

  • what about sound?

I have incestigated a few nets and the sound is almost unusable, how does this perform?

  • Just as bad.

  • sounds a bit odd, but im about to be a UNI student, and i am considering buying one of these. Does anyone know if MYOB Accounting program is fine using it on this, given the screen size and type of use needed when doing reconciliations?

  • i got the one has win7 . it has lags when play hd on youtube and hulu. this is even happens after upgrade to win 7 from xp. if hd matters stick on xp. otherwise win7 great.

  • Will this thing play DVD movies smoothly (obviously with a usb dvd drive)? Or would an uncompressed DVD be too much and cause it to stutter?

  • They'll run fine, and you don't need to delete your comment, I use isos too.

  • haha, thank's.

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks man I think I'm definitely buying this now.

  • you should try using the VGA out using a 20+" screen

  • rofl HQ is not HD.

  • HQ stands for High Quality, so it is HD...

  • HQ = High Quality

    HD = High Definition

When u see hq and hd u might notice a HUGE difference on larger screens.

  • holy balls of Johannesburg this net book is faster than my desktop....

but on the other hand it is six years old

  • Does Photoshop CS3 works on this pc?

    and what about illustrator?

  • i believe so, there are some vids showing it running

  • by the way does this netbook come with alot of crapware that will slow it down

  • No it dosent :-)

  • It runs Windows, 90% of the operating system is crapware.. I wouldn't run anything other than Linux on a netbook. Ubuntu NBR boots and runs much faster than Winblows, it's optimized for Atom processors and the latest version works 100% out of the box.

  • but does the webcam and multitouch touch pad work immediately with Ubuntu?

  • I'm running 9.10 on mine. The webcam works perfectly out of the box and multi-touch is handled directly by Ubuntu. You configure it as part of the built in touchpad settings and can change between either edge scrolling or multi-touch scrolling. I lied before though, the array mic doesn't work without installing alsa-backports (takes about 20 seconds). Seriously, you can forgive the bloat of Windows when you have power to spare but that isn't the case with netbooks.

  • i was wondering what do you think is better safari or google chrome because i know safari is the fastest and google chrome is close behind but for this netbook would you reccomend safari or chrome. thanks

  • i'd imagine chrome. safari is nice and all, but it's designed to be able to open any file type. ie you're more prone to malware/viruses with safari

  • Part 2 is gone : (

  • Yeah, I'm sorry :/ Blame it on FOX for claiming a copyright infringement.

  • kudo's for using chrome, everyone i think who uses firefox still is retarded, unless they've got a very nice computer, and use firefox for all the addons

  • agreed

  • You can open Word documents (including the new docx format) in Open office.

And I /think/ you can open the Open Office files with Microsoft word (they open fine on wordpad)

  • thanks! also are you familiar with open office? i was wondering if it is compatabl with word docs and i can open the docs with word on my normal computer?

  • can i put counter strike on this netbook?

    should i upgrade the ram?

  • You can probably install counterstrike via stream.

You most likely do not need more than 1GB of RAM to play the game, however it's probably better for the overall experience.

  • thanks! also are you familiar with open office? i was wondering if it is compatabl with word docs and i can open the docs with word on my normal computer?

  • Do you think this could run photoshop

    cs3?

  • thanks for the info.... i think i finally decided on this model. have you tried windows 7 on it?

  • Yup. Look at my video for the video playback on Windows 7 (hopefully that doesn't get taken off for copyright issues like performance test part 2)

  • would you recommend this model or the 1008Ha? (thinner, slightly less battery life)

  • It's all up to preference.

Pretty much the only differences are that the 1008HA is thinner, has rubber things to cover the ports (which ppl find annoying), and a non-removable battery.

If you don't plan on replacing the battery and like a slimmer profile, then pick the 1008HA

If you get annoyed at constantly having to remove the rubber covers or want to use this netbook beyond the battery's lifetime (about 1000 full charges), then pick the 1005HA.

    Otherwise, they're virtually identical.

  • Also the battery on the 1008ha is Lithium Polymer, which are supposed to not need replacing as often as the Lithium Ion ones which come with the 1005ha

  • Why did they take part 2 off the air?

The fan noise is a bummer for me since my actual notebook sounds like a nuclear reactor and I hate it. Did you manage to work this out?

  • They took Part 2 off because FOX claimed a copyright thing (Part 2 had like a 2-3 minute segment of The Simpsons on it).

Well, whenever my computer goes nuclear on me, I just put it to sleep and then wake it back up. It tends to stop the fan.

  • I saw on your video the "harry potter has adhd" video... so I checked out the video and I was laughing so hard!!! Thanks for that.

  • hahaha you're welcome :)

  • google chrome rules!!!!!!!!!!

  • do use this netbook to read .pdf ? i may be very comfortable for reading in the bed

  • it works decently as long as you don't use smooth scrolling (ie, just use the arrow keys and page-up/page-down keys to navigate the document)

  • Why do you recommend Google Chrome?

  • It starts up faster than IE and opens tabs faster and smoother.

I recommend it over IE;I haven't used Firefox since it was version 2.0 and I haven't used Opera in a while, so I can only recommend it over IE.

  • So, Firefox might work good as well?

  • Why dont they just bump up the resolution on these to 720p? Thats the only thing keeping me from buying one.

  • Well, more pixels = more work to the GPU and it ain't built for much...

Anyway, but they do make screens with high enough resolutions to support 720p. Examples: Dell mini 10 (not the 10v) EeePC 1101HA

  • very helpful vid

    but i have a question

can i run skype, winamp, safari (or chrome), and a word processor at the same time without any problems?

  • Why do you have Virtualbox on there, and what os is on it?

  • I ended up not using it.

  • thanks for the tests!

is it the 1005ha-m or ha-h?

the HA-M has an intel atom N270 while the HA-H has a N280 cpu.

also, you tested a 720p video, how about other videos beside a game review? i want to get this netbook but i want to be sure that it plays my 720p videos without stuttering or showing artefacts. can you test some high quality 720p videos, like 1280x720 with 2000kbit/s?

  • Using my normal player, VLC, mine plays 720p w/ high bitrate (like 2-4k) with some choppiness. If i use media player classic with coreavc installed and selected in MPC to be used for .h264, they play totally smooth. So yes, with coreAVC, you can watch h264 720p.

it can barely play standard flash video, so dont plan on streaming HD stuff tho.

  • thanks, nice to hear this :)

also thanks repter for the new video!

  • exactly right. if you have xp , no problem for hulu and youtube. win7 is bad for video.!!.

  • Check out my new video; it has me playing 3 new videos.

  • I heard that this netbook comes out of the box with the hardrive partitioned into two 80 gb drives. is that true? and if it is how do you unpartition it?

  • yes, it does comes partitioned into two 80 GB drives.

You can put them together using Gparted. There's a way to do it through windows, but I forgot what it was :/

  • did this performance test include the 2 gb of ram you showed in your unboxing video or is it just that one gig?

  • At the time of this video, 1 GB

  • WOW then that really shows how great a 2 gb upgrade would be since even at one gig the system runs great

  • lol its great to know why mine fades in the xp loading screen choppy too. It was buggin the hell out of me... but not enough to warrant uninstalling daemon tools by any means.

btw, for anyone looking for some more games to run on these machines, get project64. Spent a weekend of traveling beatin ocarina of time and mario kart again. runs beautifully on these netbooks. Also, dosbox with wolfenstein3d :) and Deus Ex

  • Well, I use Virtual Clone to replace Daemon Tools so that I can have the smoother boot.

  • is daemon tools included in the software out of the box? or do you need to install that later on?

  • I installed that later on to load ISOs

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH for making this video! It convinced me, I'm buying this! So much value for the money!

  • Thanks for your videos on the asus! they've been really helpful. i was wondering what your thoughts are on the 1005ha-p versus the 1005ha-b that is available at bestbuy?

  • Well the differences are:

    Format: HAP vs HAB

    Stereo microphone vs mono

    ~9hr battery vs ~3hr

    N280 vs N270

    Bluetooth vs No Bluetooth

    1.3MP camera vs 0.3 MP

The performance difference between the two is not a HUGE one, but I would go with the 1005HAP because it's convenient to not have to worry about the battery. Especially with a machine that size, you'd want to bring it everywhere and it's nice not having to bring the power adapter with it.

  • Hey Repter man i just got the asus 1005ha and i noticed when I'm on youtube playing a vid it'll work fine, but when i watch it on fullscreen (no HD just reg def) it comes out real choppy any clues man?

  • I've only got 2 suggestions:

    1) Turn it on to "Super Performance Mode"

    2) Preload the video (wait until the faded red line reaches the end) before playing it.

If those don't work, then I dunno.

  • Hey! I just ordered one of these and it'll be my first netbook and I have some questions.

I was wondering what you think of the screen size. That's my only concern since everything else seems great.

  • I'm totally confused. I'm considering Eee PC 1005HA and 1008HA. I thought all Asus netbooks come with SplashTop or whatever it calls--the feature that you can browse web without having to start up Window. Do these two models have that feature?

    Help please. Thanks!!

  • No, the 1005HA does not come with splashtop. You can go to splashtop . com and look under Availability>Notebooks and Netbooks>Asus

to see which ones have it or not.

  • Thank you so much, Repter75. Your comparison of different subtypes of 1005HA is great. I'll check splashtop website.

    Thanks a million!!! Appreciate it.

  • How to update the bios to turn the fan down?

  • Go to Start>ASUS>ASUSUpdate for Eee PC>ASUSUpdate

Select "Update Bios from the Internet" and then "Next"

Click on "Next" If the program freezes for over 5 minutes, then click on "Auto-Select" then "Next" If it STILL doesn't work, wait for a few hours and then try again.

In the drop down, select "0703 (07/24/2009)" and press "Next"

After that, wait for the file to download, then follow the instructions on the screen from thereon.

  • Hmm

would you consider getting the 1005HA-M, which is simply the 1005HAP i think, except, 8.5 hours battery life and a n270 processor?

  • Well in my experience the 1005HA-V and the 1005HA-P only differ in price by about $30-40, but for that, you get a faster processor, Bluetooth, longer battery life and 1.3MP camera.

I would just go for the 1005HAP because if you ever regret your 1005HA-V purchase, a new battery is about $90.

  • I've been obsessing about which netbook to buy for 5 months. I'm going to gradschool & already have a laptop. Just want sth to take to class & conference to take notes & web browsing. Lightweight is a big deal.

Been tossing the coin b/w Lenovo S10 (or S10-2) & Asus Eee PC series. What attracts me to Lenovo is Splashtop but hate the bulky 6-cell battery in the back. Really like Eee PC design but am heartbroken for no Splashtop. Does the start-up time for 1005HA intolerable for you? Suggestion?

  • Well what I do with my netbook is I start it up in the morning before I go to class and then put it on sleep.

Then whenever I need it, I'll have it ready in seconds. Then I put it back into sleep when I'm done.

  • Is your 1005-HA the N270 processor or the N280? Great vid btw.. I'm thinking of getting a HA since it's aorund $50 less than the HA-P...

  • I have the 1005HA-P and that uses the N280 processor.

  • I got the 1005hap and I must say I love it. I would never buy the ha. It is simply a better investment to get the 6 cell battery and better processor. Also be sure to get a skin of some sort. Even if its just a solid color skin.,your Eee is worth protecting well.

  • I have the HA and it has a 6 cell...

  • there are multiple versions ranging from 6 hours of battery life, to 10.5.

  • Format

    Model Battery, rating Advertised ~actual

    1005HA-B 3-cell, 23 Whr 4 hrs ~3hrs

    1005HA-V 6-cell, 48 Whr 8.5 hrs ~6hrs

    1005HA-P 6-cell, 63 Whr 10.5hs ~9hrs

  • from what online carrier did you purchase the asus eee?

  • The fan sounds really loud. Is this normal of netbooks? It looks like it was under load when playing youtube video

  • It was under load when playing the YouTube video.

The fan on this model can get pretty loud. A bios update turns down the fan a bit by allowing the system to get a bit hotter before turning on the fan.

  • i'm kinda used to opera.i've been using it for years now.mostly beacause of the startup tab where you can add sites and you don't have to type them in.

  • great video! do you know if the hdd can be upgraded with an ssd one?

  • You can, it's just a lot of work. There's not access panel to the hard drive, so you'd have to dismantle the bottom cover

  • Hey man, great vid. Did you have 2GB of RAM or 1 GB in there while you did this video?

And what color do you have? Blue or Black? I don't know which color to get...I'm thinking blue

  • I just got the 1005HA since 2 days. I have the same startup stuttering after updating Windows XP with the Malicious Software Remover Tool. Could it be because of that update?

  • I did find out what MY problem was. My problem was having SPTI installed.

  • Firefox is the best!!!!!!! google chrome is okay... not very secure though

  • Is the fan very loud?

  • thanks for the help

  • WTF My ACER Aspire One AOA150 sucks at HD youtube! It's laggy and stuff. Good thing I condensed my mom to take it and get me the 1005HA-P yeah man! Good video even though bad cam but you can't pick and choose everything. 5 stars will defenately get an HD unboxding and review up when I get mine. Thanks man I will dedicate my HD Unboxing to you lol!

  • Ok. thanks well that battery time is good enough for me. say normal surfing about 7 hours. that is ENOUGH.

    Thanks for your help. Cheers

  • this was a great video. watched the pros review videos and they completely missed the mark and wasted my time. You really answered all my questions - THANKS!

  • okey.. the important thing for me is that it´s pretty quite when im sleeping. i guess i can hardware modd it with something like i had to do with everything else i buy. good review. really appreciate it. Battery time? is it really about 11 hours?

  • I'm sure you understand Battery time depends on use.

I personally haven't depleted the battery with my trials (in fact I've never gone below 38%). However from other reports people say:

~ 9 hrs 20 minutes browsing the internet (websites without flash)

    ~6 hrs 20 minutes watching 720p video

I haven't seen the estimate go under 6hrs (even when playing WCIII).

  • Is it really that noisy?

Or is it the mic that is sensitive?

  • It is that noisy, but only when you do stuff like visit Flash websites or something CPU intensive.

Like right now, I'm just checking my e-mail, Facebook, and responding to this comment and the fan is completely off right now.

  • Oh, sorry... I didn't read this at first.

  • But I have a question: What does the fan do, if you call someone with skype and set the video call to full screen? Will it be quiet?

  • That is one no noisy machine.

    The fan is always spinning.

Or is it just the mic that is sensitive?

  • good video i like to actually see the computer run than people talking about it

  • hey man, great video! since this laptop came out ive been looking for a video like this. thanks for the help.

  • is it noisy, or silent no sound at all ??

  • Comment removed

  • sir, can be upgrade vista ultimate Asus Eee PC 1005HA???

  • Haha, if you give me a legit CD-key, I'll definitely give it a try XD

  • Did you upgrade the ram and which are use high performance or super performance

  • yeah i was wondering the same thing

  • At the time, the RAM was not upgraded and the computer was running on Super Performance Mode

  • That means many of these applications (including the HD video on youtube) may run increasingly smoother with the 2GB RAM upgrade.
