binoculord - This water is not potable. Pollen and microbes can enter the tank. It must be filtered. This water would be used for irrigation or outdoor washing purposes.
@binoculord People and industrialisation has put acids and other pollutants into our atmosphere. Therefore you would want to learn 3 types of filtration in order to remove the impurities and pollution; 1) mechanical filtration (meshes, strainers etc) will remove debris like leaves 2) chemical filtration (activated carbon) will take care of chemicals. 3) biological filtration (good bacterias) will outcompete negative bacteria or you can use a UV light to kill all bacteria.
Please explain the rubber gasket with holes to "automatically drain" the water on the First Flush.
Maybe I'm missing a rule in plumbing here but how does the water reach the horizontal pipe that leads to the tank if there are drain holes. Does the float ball push the water up with the pressure? Thank you.
This is nice. Here in my house we have done the same. Not all tech as this one but one far more simple. One common 500L tank on the floor and the tube above it. We open the tank to fill it. When filled we put some vegetable oil above it to prevent mosquitos and close it. Then we reconnect the tube to the normal flush tubes. We use that water for watering the garden.
The guy has a double voice like it's Satan instructing us as to how one becomes house-savvy.

Marist - The holes are very small and the water seeps out over time. It doesn't pour out.
