Liberal? Its pathetic. The Us has still nott reached beyond the libetralism of the 19th century. In Europe half of the people are proud SOCIALISTS, not liberal. Liberal? ITs in the centre, american idiots.
Im an Iranian girl! The hope for democracy in Iran died on June 12th with the fake election changing the result in favor of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad!! There has been a coup d'etat since then in Iran! People are protesting against government dictatorship and getting arrested injured or killed! The real president (based on votes), Mir Hossein Mousavi is arrested at his homePlease help us and let other people know about it! We want our poor country back!
Sadly, I don't think this should come as a surprise. The religious mulahs actually running the country are not going to give even a bit of power to someone they might not control.
Oddly enough we would have a better chance at doing that in Iran than Iraq.
Iran is already democracy, but its under attack by the hard liners within the country who want to lessen the freedoms democracy has given them.
So as you can imagine about 75% of the population knows what democracy is and the benefits of it and the loss if it goes away, there would be a huge support for restoring a normal democracy from the population.
1. American democracy is not "under attack," and America doesn't have a supreme ayatollah who has the final say on any matter.
2. America has been the leading (government) proponent for human rights for over 60 years, since FDR wanted to give HR a central position in the UN.
Yeah, we've made some mistakes and we've lost some credibility, but if you honestly look at our system, we make a GREAT (albeit not perfect) spokesperson.
You're right to point out many of those names. It's unfortunate that HR often has to be sublimated to other geopolitical concerns.
But this is a problem ALL countries have, even the Europeans. Who were the first countries to back away from sanctions against China after 1989? NOT the US. If you were a minority, would you rather live in the US or a random W. European nation? Most often, the US.
Among all states of the world--especially large, influential ones--the US looks relatively good.
America, ambassadors of Human Rights around the world........hahahahaaaaaaaaaa, GOOD ONE!
America and Human Rights are not exactly synonymous. We are just clever enough to hide our human right violations and misdeeds.
Americans discriminates, segregates and enslaves Americans of different race, religion, ethnicity, and gender. Therefore, I am not surprised, when I hear Americans tortures Iraqis and detainees under the mask of freedom, Democracy and HUMAN RIGHTS (that is a big one!).
Yeah, how about the convictions AFTER those horrible incidents? Every country has its pricks--judge a country on how it REACTS to those pricks. Yeah, the US has made BIG mistakes and has often failed to live up to its rhetoric, but you can' t even begin to compare it with Iran.
Maybe you should expand your research beyond youtube and wikipedia. Start with "Rights Beyond Borders," by Rosemary Foot. Maybe then we can have a mature discussion.
Yeah, let's tell imprisoned Chinese dissidents that we're going to stop petitioning Beijing for their release while we work on our problems. Let's stop agitating for HR in Sudan, Zimbabwe and Myanmar. Let's leave the UNHRC to protest the Israel-bashing rather than trying to reform it (oops... too late for that).
We may have a log in our eyes, but there are goddmn Oak trees in others' eyes out there.
Wow! It sounds like you haven't learned a thing from Bush's Iraqi blunder Invasion, promoting democracy and freedom in middle east.
We cannot solve any or all global problems by ourselves, if there is no global support for our actions. Instead, we will be perceived as Imperialist invaders who hides behind the phony mask of "democracy" and "freedom".
People will become suspicious of our motives. We will not be greeted as Liberators, instead we will be seen as Invaders of any country.
lol... I hate guys like rush limbaugh and hannity and o'reilly because they're so intellectually dishonest and partisan, but i'm realizing more and more that both sides of the spectrum suffer from this problem. YOU are being a partisan (i.e. "he disagrees with me, so he must be a neo-con!") and you are being intellectually dishonest--"the US has no right to promote HR and democracy."

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is going to win this Election (George Bush style)...
He's GOING TO STEAL IT...!!!
Or at least try too... The numbers are already shifting over in his favor in an odd fashion considering most Iranians dislike him and want a more moderate leader.
What I have been saying all along: Ahmadinagad wasn't elected the first time, but somehow he was declared the winner. Did anyone expect them to change? They've done it again, this time.
0:44 WTF is up with that guy's mustache. Damn! Also huge fail in Iran reminds of Truman vs. Dewey when several papers printed the story of Dewey winning.

Umm... Anyday now? You guys need to wake the fuck up man.. This is a clear example of our Media NOT reporting News!!
You guys want real news?
Russia,China, and Brazil are dumping the USD for IMF'S!!
(Barack Obama and George Bush have set us up for slavery!! You guys can go research this yourselves... I'm not a conspiracy theorist or anything like that but Shits getting ugly!!)
"Russia,China, and Brazil are dumping the USD for IMF'S!! "
You don't even know what that means, do you?
Russia, China, and Brazil are buying International Monetary Fund bonds in order to diversify their portfolio and to enable the IMF to loan money to emerging economies. This is nations helping nations and the US does it too.
They are not "dumping the USD". That statement doesn't even make sense considering Brazil, China, and Russia all use their own currency.
Not to be disrespectful or anything like that but.. the last time I checked our Country was $11 TRILLION DOLLARS in Debt (and counting) so what makes you think that THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is helping emerging economies when our ECONOMY is in knee deep of shit!!??
(I don't get? sarcasm)
Trust me dude.. Russia,China, and Brazil don't need us!!
But it has international banks, corporations, and their countless lobbyists that live in washington and take part in nearly every decision that is made there.
The US doesn't need an Ayatollah when It has the almighty dollar.
You know I don't think they have the FDA in 3rd world countries, where people get sick and die all the time from simply eating tainted foods that were produced with no oversight.
It wasn't incompetence, it was "stealth deregulation." The Bush Administration didn't believe in regulating industry, but instead of abolishing the regulatory agencies, they simply put people in charge of them who were committed to not doing the job. That was true of the FDA, SEC, EPA, DOJ etc.
I don't have the numbers here, so I can't quote them, but during the Bush Administration the number of drugs and foods that were actually TESTED dropped quite dramatically, as did the number of EPA violations. The number of civil rights cases brought by the DOJ dropped to practically nothing...and I don't need to tell you what the SEC was NOT doing all those years. (ie-NOT checking on people like Madoff.)
That's all we need, more government control over industry. It gets harder and harder to find someone who smokes every day. Government oversight isn't necessary if stopping people from smoking is their goal.
wow he didnt totally ignore her , he turned around, came back down and answered. He amazes me everyday. I dont ever remember a pres. doing that, they totally ignore any and all things after they start to walk away, Bush did it even before walking away.....

1. That is for Iranian people to decide, not people from outside.
2. America is already a democracy too, but it is under attack by the right wing, Christian hard liners within the country.
America is not qualified to be spokesperson to preach for "human rights" & "democracy" around the world.

Maybe, we should take the big log that is sticking out of our own eyes first, before even attempt to take speck out of somebody else's eyes.
Maybe, we should try to rebuild our nation first, and never again rush to war under false pretenses and rebuild middle eastern countries.
Maybe, we should repair our damaged reputation and work toward peace .
Maybe, we should practice what we preach, for a change.
