  • One of the best piano solos ever

  • Sweetness defined....

  • Hard Bop at its finest

  • @chrissyBduh Word. It doesn't get better than that shuffle!

  • Blakey's most popular and most overrated album.

  • Bobby Timmons wrote this masterpiece, but Benny Golson wrote most of the songs on the album, which was originally self-titled and later given the name Moanin'.

  • jymie merritt!

  • @Hoffletrof456 - shoot, that's cuz it is....

  • 4 people are deaf.

  • why does every video have the sound way behind the video!?!?! Is it that hard for an uploader to fix the footage before uploading? I think the corporations are up to it to make sure that humans don't hear the truth (music) and exacerbate the way our vision dominates our hearing.

  • ART BLAKEY & THE JAZZ MESSENGERS/Moanin 白熱のアドリブプレイ‼

  • Timmons on piano so good

  • whats with all your moanin, list to these boys, its a brilliant clip even if the end is missing. I was very pleased to see this, thank for posting dude. All solo's were amazing, especially Bobby.

  • Vídeo de gran calidad...Aunque falta un trocito del final...

  • Bobby Timmons killed it!

  • after a long day full of setbacks and things that anger me, this has put my life back into perspective and reminded me what i live for-moments like the ones in this video

  • 0:36 - best bit of the whole piece

  • lee morgan is so cool.

  • Is it just on my computer the video goes kind of "backwards" in sync at about 1:45 ? When Art Blakey hits 2&4 on the HiHat, the video's on 1&3 :s

  • wonderful! also a real nice clear video Rare to see way back then.

  • 懐かしい 中学生の思い出

  • ouawwwwww voila de la bonne musique art blakey energitique suivant le rythme de son savoir faire et la hardiesse de ses compositions , imposant la rigueure bravo

  • wow the quality of the video is the best ive ever seen of something this old wow the original recording must have been kept it really good shape

  • Jazz is God.

  • good as it gets..Lee feels free...100% there

  • Lee Morgan = GENIO TOTAL

  • Too bad Lee Morgan's common law had to kill him - such a big deal is made of Miles when there were so many other (in my opinion better) trumpet players on the NY scene. Miles was genius at getting OTHER musicians around him (unlike Buhaina, who was THE drummer, you know, holding his own), often great musicians as well as composers (look at Wayne Shorter who basically kept Miles musically alive with all his compositions. But Morgan and Hub were such better trumpeters, I think.

  • @fr3lonbrun not true

  • smooth......

  • Great music!!!!!!!!!!!

  • SIII QUE RICO... BUENA BUENA

  • im happy to know i play bass!!! upright

  • Just great, really awesome!

  • excelent video

  • They are so young. I wish something like this would happen in modern music. It's a musical miracle.

  • The end, including a bass solo, is missing. :(

  • @1JohnRed The piece lasts several minutes, I could not bear the full

    unfortunately lacks the bass solo.

  • This song gives me shivers everytime I hear it.

  • What a Wonderful Groove!

Jazz from the heart @ soul..to you! CAN YOU FEEL IT!

  • Outstanding! What a fantastic footage. I was looking forward to see a live performance from lee morgan on moanin'. I love his love in this song. Bobby timmons also has made an incredible solo.

  • Everyone watch jazz by ken burns. The most complete jazz doc ever put together more then possible to rember after watching once.

  • @SkeetsPassatB5 the ken burns documentary crammed the last 30 years of jazz into half of an episode. The problem is that it displays jazz like a museum piece that ended with coltrane rather than something that is always alive and changing. Icons Among Us:Jazz in the Present Tense essentially picked up where ken burns left off.

  • This is simply amazing. I didn't know this footage existed. Thank you!

  • bravo:)

  • et la suite...

  • It's great. Wonderful.

  • 0 Dislikes. Thats how it ought to be!!

  • LEE MORGAN IS KILLIN

  • @DarkestJade hell yea he is! XD

  • Simply amazing performance, Art has a very nice press role

  • I got a better recording, but it still rocks! Ain't nothing be swinging better than this!

  • Great song!

  • These guys sure are some cool cats.

  • message received

  • Lee Morgan's solo on this is what Jazz is all about. It is everything a fan of hard bop could want and everything an old school guy from the dance music days could want. All the blues and thought poured into one song.

  • very good

  • One of the best songs of it's time, in my opinion.

  • Both Lee Morgan and Bobby Timmons could generate so much energy, passion, and blues through their horn.

  • @jazzismylif

    Bobby Timmons plays the piano

  • lee morgan was a badass...

  • amazing

  • This is AWESOME!!!!!!

  • Bobby Timmons turns out some of the most electrifying solos, and its all on an acoustic piano! lol!! its impossible to not enjoy this or even tire from it....thanks for posting this stuff!

  • live in belgium? O.o aw man, why wasn't i born earlier?

  • Great trumpet solo. Lee Morgan always sounded so much better to me when used fewer notes.

  • Est-ce l'enregistrement de 1958 a l'Olympia?

  • Possibly my favourite jazz record of all time
