Bobby Timmons wrote this masterpiece, but Benny Golson wrote most of the songs on the album, which was originally self-titled and later given the name Moanin'.
I actually prefer the way Benny approaches his solo here compared to the original recording...you hear some of the same licks, but he builds it much better...not to mention the little interplay between him and Bobby at 5:02...and then of coarse Bobby opens his solo with the funkiest riff I've ever heard...truly amazing...my favorite combo of the messengers by far...
why does every video have the sound way behind the video!?!?! Is it that hard for an uploader to fix the footage before uploading? I think the corporations are up to it to make sure that humans don't hear the truth (music) and exacerbate the way our vision dominates our hearing.
whats with all your moanin, listen to these boys, its a brilliant clip even if the end is missing. I was very pleased to see this, thank for posting dude. All solo's were amazing, especially Bobby.

after a long day full of setbacks and things that anger me, this has put my life back into perspective and reminded me what i live for-moments like the ones in this video
ouawwwwww voila de la bonne musique art blakey energitique suivant le rythme de son savoir faire et la hardiesse de ses compositions , imposant la rigueure bravo
Too bad Lee Morgan's common law had to kill him - such a big deal is made of Miles when there were so many other (in my opinion better) trumpet players on the NY scene. Miles was genius at getting OTHER musicians around him (unlike Buhaina, who was THE drummer, you know, holding his own), often great musicians as well as composers (look at Wayne Shorter who basically kept Miles musically alive with all his compositions. But Morgan and Hub were such better trumpeters, I think.
Outstanding! What a fantastic footage. I was looking forward to see a live performance from lee morgan on moanin'. I love his love in this song. Bobby timmons also has made an incredible solo.
@SkeetsPassatB5 the ken burns documentary crammed the last 30 years of jazz into half of an episode. The problem is that it displays jazz like a museum piece that ended with coltrane rather than something that is always alive and changing. Icons Among Us:Jazz in the Present Tense essentially picked up where ken burns left off.
Lee Morgan's solo on this is what Jazz is all about. It is everything a fan of hard bop could want and everything an old school guy from the dance music days could want. All the blues and thought poured into one song.
Bobby Timmons turns out some of the most electrifying solos, and its all on an acoustic piano! lol!! its impossible to not enjoy this or even tire from it....thanks for posting this stuff!
