Ahh crap, I don't know who to root for! I love Sakai's plating designs, but I adore Morimoto's originality in his dishes (especially his playful and riskful dishes).
Morimoto and Sakai.. my two favorites... Morimoto because his dishes are so inventive and original, Sakai because of his passion, humor, the look on hisface when he sees the ingredient, and just pure love of cooking.
Yeah, but Morimoto would've had his ass handed to him there. Sakai is king when it comes to fish. Vegetables will certainly keep things interesting...
it's kind of unfair. i mean i know sakai is better. but the pork favoured chen, and now the peppe favours sakai lol....no wonder morimoto looked sad whilst sakai was overjoyed. haha
Nah, Morimoto was keeping his game face on. Sakai was laughing because-why else-the ingredient is all about Kaga!
While pork favored neither Chen nor Kobe (pork is used extensively in Italian, especially Northern Italian, in which Kobe specilizes), bell pepper ever so slightly favors western over East Asian. On the other hand, as we shall see, Morimoto is not your typical Japanese chef...
I feel the pepper should've been final instead of semi final. It would've been more fitting. At least for the semi final, charman kaga could've done something else.
Yeah, I have to say, this episode and the last were just for show. I haven't seen the end of this one, but would be shocked out of my mind if Sakai didn't win. The real showdown will be the last, between Chen and Sakai
I totally want to go to Japan and eat at any of the Iron Chef's resturants. Especially Sakai's and Chen's resturants. Thanks for the uploads even if the show has been over for 7 years...who cares...Iron Chef rocks.
morimotos got one in ny, one in philly and one in atlantic city. i ate at the one in philly its a crazy restaurant. the booths are flourescent and the whole restaurant changes color. he has a beer also, made by rogue
i went to the one in philly. sadly i was too young to fully appreciate but the food was amazing. the kobe beef was soo amazing, literally melted. i havent had anything that delicious since. the decor was also out of this world; everything was made of thick opaque plastic and very slowly changed colorsoutstanding.
Siegel battled during the Morimoto era; by the looks of things, the battle in the footage is from the Nakamura era. It can't be Siegel in the footage.
That was Philippe Baton, who defeated Sakai in the Bacon Battle. He was settling a vendetta after a number of his French colleagues (working in Japan at the time) lost to Sakai.
Ron Siegel's a beast. I hope I'm not out of line but for a gaijin chef to best Sakai in Kitchen Stadium is huge... like a white guy winning at Showtime at the Apollo.
do they really end their carrer as an iron chef if they lose??

One chef challenger used $1000 worth of lobster to FLAVOR his dish, then didn't even use them.
Certainly, it is a decadent life the Chairman lives!

regarding the pork, it's also used a lot in italian cooking as well. chen was just better. (i mean, he IS the dominating chef in number of wins)

Lol, after the Chairman said that he sometimes bites into the theme ingredient, I knew it was bell pepper. I think everyone did :)

Ok, I can't help comment on the Kaga stuffing himself with mushrooms... TOO funny...!! wouldn't they taste really bland raw?
freshsprout 4 years ago 3
They looked like they were grilled on a little hibachi. But even raw, mushrooms can be a very flavorful and diverse food.
