There is no perfect system least of all ours. Many Euro systems have long waits for treatments but people get treated. You can wait for the public sponsored hospital or find a private provider who will help you sooner.
I've spoken to people from Sweden who have told me it's not a great system but at least they know they're covered.
There is a law in America where you cannot be refused treatment even if you can't pay already so stop worrying. My bet is the wait in the emrgancy room for people without coverage in the USA is far shorter than the wait for those who have it in the UK.
