Well, remember their costume update on the site? If not, they said they're going to use more costumes from other games in the series. Mario has fire mario, Samus has her Fusion Suit. Link has an awesome dark form. So its only fair that Snake gets a good alt costume.

He said he designed all the smash bros games as if they were to be the last in the series. That applies to Melee and Brawl. He didn't know if he was going to make a brawl until E3 of '05.
