I do agree with musicprodave, I found him to contradict himself, all very well saying he likes a clear melody then when he plays the melody he changes it every time, great player, bad teacher
This guy is a monster guitar player...wow... great...but...you can't teach like that. Very bad teacher at least in this vid. Love to watch him play though.
Bryan Sutton is the sickest guitar player since Tony Rice. If anybody can't listen to him play Rawhide on Ricky Skagg's 'Bluegrass Rules!' and not want to swear, sell your guitar and join a monastery, you have no clue what an amazing guitar player sounds like.
Not only is that technically awesome, it's beautiful. Like he says, preserve the melody or the licks mean nothing. I'm in awe. And the tone from that guitar is unbelievable.
@goopy630 Pretty sure he's playing a Bourgeois, made by Dana Bourgeois in Maine. I think Bryan is pretty much a dedicated Bourgeois player, as he's mentioned on the Bourgeois website. I'm just getting turned on to Bourgeois guitars myself; love the tone.
Bryan Sutton is one of the great modern super pickers. He pushes flat picking to new levels while keeping the best of the traditional flat pickers. This is an excellent piece of pickin' with some excellent musical advice!
great player...he plays the melody not like the authentic melody, but instead goes subconcious like a good player, and lets his improvised melody evoke the listener to hear the authentic melody....thats the mark of an artist..hats off to you
Just remember, you have to learn play something slow, and in time before playing it fast. Stick with it measure by measure and you will get it over time. Thanks for watching these video clips.
holy shnikes!!...that crosspickin is a killer....I guess there's nothin to it but to do it...!!..one o those things you just have to practice and take forever to learn...
its clean very fast picking awesome

Great stuff Bryan! I love Bourgeois guitars. I'm curious...what specifically is the tonewood on the back and sides of your guitar in this video?
