I am from Israel. My grand father was officer in red army and survive all war from 41-45. He has never told about war and never watched movies about war. I can not imagin how many terrible things he saw during the war.

When she did she lost quickly. None of Germany's allies were small either, Japan especially was a major power with a large army. 2/3rds of the US navy and half her ground forces went to the pacific until 1944. Germany's allies fielded roughly 30% of the total axis forces on the eastern front, pretty significant.

Again you are wrong. Japan had an military of 9 million, which was larger than Great Britains Military for example. Germany fielded more army divisions than the USA and GB combined, some 300 vs 120. The US had more divisions in action against Japan than Germany until D-day. From mid 1941 until mid 1944, Germany faced Russia almost exclusively, and was defeated by Russia almost exclusively. Maybe you forget the US and British were trapped behind the English channel for most of the war.
But England and AMerica didnt watch the fight between R and G without doing anything...Germany was bombed excessively during this time, weakening Germanys Factorys, and so on.
And Russia is far bigger than Germany...
But what i know is, that Russia lost far more men than Germany, maybe the US and england too, it was far bloodier on the allied side than at the Axis side...
@andromedarr The Allied bombing raids did not come into their own until middle of 1944. More bombs were dropped after d-day than before by the Allied air forces. Bombing was only really effective for the last 10 months of the war.

Had the Red Army been more casualty conscious, losses would have been much less.
@Mcplkelly Actually, I think the Japanese can be blamed for losing WWII for the Axis. First of all, Japan did not declare war on Russia, as per the agreement. And second of all, the Japanese did not know how to use their submarines like the Germans...and she lost her naval war, with Battleships that dwarfed every other nations's including the the US and Germany. Japan had a chance to reproduce Tiger Tanks, V1 rockets and she failed...and that left Germany isolated.
Germany carries a lot of blame, not just Japan. For starters Germany never informed Japan about the non-agression pact with the USSR in 1939, and than never informed Japan that they would break it in 1941. Japan had already committed to going to war against the US/British/Dutch by June 1941 when Germany went to war against the USSR, and Germany never did ask for assistance until 1943.
Unlike the Allied powers who cooperated heavily, the axis powers rarely did.

Why is everyone fighting? Not ALL Nazis were bad. Most of them were actually under control of Hitler. They couldn't do anything. They never wanted to kill the Jews, or even fight most of the battles. They felt sorry for the Polish, Norwegians, Danes, Swedes and the French. The Japanese leader was friends with Hitler, but most of the Japanese never wanted to fight against the US, but they didn't had a choice. So don't listen to what you hear about the Nazis. At the Don Bend river 11 000 germans were in the 3rd Roumanian Armee Front Sector. They together with 12 000 roumanian troops have been encircled in Stalingrad. @EdgarEmigholz Nonsense. After Dunkirk, there was no Western Front. When America did get involved it had to mobilize. They started in North Africa because they were unsure of their fighting capability then took on Italy to find a way into Europe. The eastern front didn't truly open up for the Russians until the Germans had to move divisions westward to fight after Normandy. England was just as much out of the war militarily until D-Day. The build up and planning wasn't rash, but planned.
@Trenz73 Dunkirk was in 1940 , America wasent even in the war then. Americans just waited as long as they could , mobilizing doesent take 3 years. They just waited until the German Army was exhausted , because they knew if they would fight against the Germany army full strenght they wouldent stand a change , and even in 1944 America sufferd enormous against the weakend German Army. Italy wasent the way into Europe , they just wanted Italy out of the war. On D-Day US army was still in Italy!

I think it also tries to show that not all Nazi soldiers where hartless killing machines, just like any human being they where induviduals with family of their own, who were just serving their country for the wrong reasons.

I am from Israel. My grand father was officer in red army and survive all war from 41-45. He has never told about war and never watched movies about war. I can not imagin how many terrible things he saw during the war.

@NewVahan2 my german friend's grandfather served in the ostheer at the age of 17 as a machine gunner, he gunned down over 300 soviet troops in under an hour during the battle for stalingrad, most of them never had weapons he went out to survey the battlefield and what he found were kids about the same age as him some even younger lying dead, he told me that he fell to his knee's and started crying as it was against his morales to fight and kill children every he went to the battlefield and cried

@andromedarr Too much wrong with this comment to really rectify in 500 characters. For starters Germany did not face half the countries you mention until mid way through the war. When she did she lost quickly. None of Germany's allies were small either, Japan especially was a major power with a large army. 2/3rds of the US navy and half her ground forces went to the pacific until 1944. Germany's allies fielded roughly 30% of the total axis forces on the eastern front, pretty significant.

The Axis hold out about 4 Years against all theese Countrys, that, except for russia, wherent weakended in 2 Years of War, with far less men, so i think the Germans where better.
If you look at russia and USA, and Russia (today) Russia has 140.000.000 Inhabitants, and USA 310.000.000 inhabitants, Germany had 80.000.000.

Again you are wrong. Japan had an military of 9 million, which was larger than Great Britains Military for example. Germany fielded more army divisions than the USA and GB combined, some 300 vs 120. The US had more divisions in action against Japan than Germany until D-day. From mid 1941 until mid 1944, Germany faced Russia almost exclusively, and was defeated by Russia almost exclusively. Maybe you forget the US and British were trapped behind the English channel for most of the war.

And Russia is far bigger than Germany...
But what i know is, that Russia lost far more men than Germany, maybe the US and england too, it was far bloodier on the allied side than at the Axis side...

@andromedarr The Allied bombing raids did not come into their own until middle of 1944. More bombs were dropped after d-day than before by the Allied air forces. Bombing was only really effective for the last 10 months of the war.
Russia is bigger than Germany, but by the end of 1941 50% of Russia's population was in German controlled territory, meaning its population advantage was not that great until it began liberating its territory in late 1943.

@andromedarr Russian losses were higher than the German ones for most of the war. However this ignores several facts. The Russians were more than capable of inflicting larger losses on the Germans, as in Bagration, Lvov and Romania in 1944. Also Stalin felt he was in a race with the west, the Russians accepted heavy losses in order to get as much territory as possible from the Germans per operation. Had the Red Army been more casualty conscious, losses would have been much less.

@Mcplkelly Actually, I think the Japanese can be blamed for losing WWII for the Axis. First of all, Japan did not declare war on Russia, as per the agreement. And second of all, the Japanese did not know how to use their submarines like the Germans...and she lost her naval war, with Battleships that dwarfed every other nations's including the the US and Germany. Japan had a chance to reproduce Tiger Tanks, V1 rockets and she failed...and that left Germany isolated.

Germany carries a lot of blame, not just Japan. For starters Germany never informed Japan about the non-agression pact with the USSR in 1939, and than never informed Japan that they would break it in 1941. Japan had already committed to going to war against the US/British/Dutch by June 1941 when Germany went to war against the USSR, and Germany never did ask for assistance until 1943.
Unlike the Allied powers who cooperated heavily, the axis powers rarely did.

In 1940 Britisch Army was humiliated by the Germans , Brittian could only survive with American help. There was no asnwer against the yet fighters , the skies would be filled with yet planes. If you look at some of the prototypes they stil look modern today! Like the flying wing , a German design. Why is everyone fighting? Not ALL Nazis were bad. Most of them were actually under control of Hitler. They couldn't do anything. They never wanted to kill the Jews, or even fight most of the battles. They felt sorry for the Polish, Norwegians, Danes, Swedes and the French. The Japanese leader was friends with Hitler, but most of the Japanese never wanted to fight against the US, but they didn't had a choice. So don't listen to what you hear about the Nazis. They are still Germans no mater what.

@2210ethan The winners write history, nazi were bad , but not worse then stalin or roosevelt, the warcrimes of the so called heroes are being forgotten or like they dont matter, warcrimes from atomic bombs on cities to rape and murder in berlin 1945 after the war in berlin. There wasent a Neurenberg trial for russian rapers or murderes?, stalin wasent hanged for crimes against humanity? so i thinks it fair they were all bad guys, it doesent matter how many you have killed, its all just terrible

Totally disagree. Obviously Stalin was a monster, no better than Hitler, but the Western Allies were totally different, and any suggestion of parity is -to my mind- infamous. The atomic bombs saved lives.

@EdgarEmigholz , I agree! I posted two clips: Roumanian armee Stalingrad 1942 and Roumanian Armee 1942 - The Don Bend . They are sin 1942! At the Don Bend river 11 000 germans were in the 3rd Roumanian Armee Front Sector. They together with 12 000 roumanian troops have been encircled in Stalingrad. At Staligrad fought, on the german side, soldiers from 32 countries!

@2210ethan If you look at it yourway, SS, Gestapo, and Nazi party members were the "bad guys". This is the regular troops who where drafted or joined on there own. So they are not the "bad guys". And if we still look at your way the SS was responsible for the Holocaust. Ordered by the Nazi party. And when your in a situation like this, its all about survival even if they are good or bad.

Stalin certainly murdered huge numbers of his own people, and I definitely don't see the Red army as 'The Good guys' but I think it's fair to say that Brit/commonwealth/US forces are owed a great debt, and were certainly not guilty of genocide in WW2.

Whilst black Americans have been poorly treated by their own country, I think it's a stretch to say that that makes the fight against Fascism hypocritical!

The Americans did not fight for freedom , the fought for control of Europe , and they still are doing it in the Middle East , the war in the Middle East is not about freedom , its about power and control. Stalin was almost as bad as Hitler, and for a time it did look as if Britain would go to war against the Nazi-Soviet alliance, but that's not how it ended up.
Comparing the men who volunteered to fight fascism with SS volunteers is, to my mind, obscene. The US has never been interested in Europe and had to be persuaded on their eventual 'Germany First' policy with some difficulty. Middle East is a different conversation.

They did not had to be persuaded they just waited till the German army was exhausted against the Russian Army , so they would face light resistance ,America couldent take on Germany alone, thats wye German held out so long. They did the same thing as in WW1 ,wait till Germany is exhausted, en then take the power

And the German army was far from exhausted in December 1941.
And after both wars the US showed (or wanted to show) magnanimity to the defeated powers. Look at the Marshall Plan, they rebuilt Europe.

Germany Declared war on the US on December 11, 1941. It was a direct result of the attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese. The US declaration of war with Germany was a response to Germany's declaration.

And who declared war on Germany? , France and England after the attack on Poland, wye dident they declared war on Russia? , Russia invaded Poland togheter with Germany. @EdgarEmigholz you have a very cynical view of how things work. If America really wanted to get into WW2 just for profit, they wouldn't have waited to be attacked to do so. They would have just joined the fight. Believe it or not, the choice of sending hundreds of thousands of men to their deaths weighed heavily on the politicians who sent them. You'll believe what you want just because you want to believe Germany had a moral leg to stand on... which they didn't.

@Trenz73 When would you attack? , when the enemy is strong or when the enemy is weak? , America waited 3 years to invade Europe , because German army was already very weak in that stage , they just cowardly waited till the German army was weak and they attacked , if they invaded in 1941 or 1942 it would have been a humaliation on the beaches. They dident expacted so many deaths , the war should have been over in late 1944 according to the Yanks , but they underestimated the German will to fight

@EdgarEmigholz Nonsense. After Dunkirk, there was no Western Front. When America did get involved it had to mobilize. They started in North Africa because they were unsure of their fighting capability then took on Italy to find a way into Europe. The eastern front didn't truly open up for the Russians until the Germans had to move divisions westward to fight after Normandy. England was just as much out of the war militarily until D-Day. The build up and planning wasn't rash, but planned.

They just waited until the German Army was exhausted , because they knew if they would fight against the Germany army full strenght they wouldent stand a change , and even in 1944 America sufferd enormous against the weakend German Army. Italy wasent the way into Europe , they just wanted Italy out of the war. On D-Day US army was still in Italy!
