  • simply the best.... Nina Simone

  • LOVE NINA & THIS SONG!

  • Once you've got Nina under your skin, she never leaves ya... Goosebumps.

  • I've always loved this song, but also felt like the tempo kinda drags too much. I spend the whole song wishing it was just a tiny little bit faster/edgier. Maybe that's just me though. It probably is. Lol! In any case, gosh I love this song. I get it stuck in my head so bad.

  • people accidently press the dislike button

  • This song written by the great Jimmy Webb--he wrote "Wichita Lineman" "By The Time I Get To Phoenix". I heard him do his own brilliant version of this in a concert years ago. I don't think he recorded it. Or at least I can't find it. His version is of course the best. But the great Nina Simone comes close.

  • Great song. So much soul in everything she's done. Nina always me ease the pain. Her music is a gift to the world.

  • Alicia Keys sampled this song..'You Dont know my name"

  • @str8OuttaNaptown30 - that was Main Ingredient "Let Me Prove My Love To You"

  • @merelyateacher WOW! You're right. It's just that I can hear a lil bit of Alicia's song in here. I guess my ears aren't as good as I thought they were. LOL Thanks Man/Lady

  • Roberta Flack redid this song and I have never forgotten it. I can also relate to the lyrics. I need a posting of Roberta's though. Thank you Nina for such a beautiful song.

  • THANK you for posting one of the most beautiful songs by such a beautiful voice..

  • good, but kinda sounds like a dude, no offense

  • @joeturkey1993 No offense but you need to have your hearing checked.

  • This must be one of the best songs ever - I've loved the Four Tops version for years but Nina's version is excellent too (The Tops win out I think). First time I've heard her version - but I think its great.

  • the beautiful late great

    nina simone! superb talent

one of my favorites she sang

    was Ne me Quitte pas.

    loyal fan.

  • Such a lovely song, though I prefer the more acoustic version. heartbreaking stuff. Miss you Nina xxx

  • It's a beautiful song, but look who wrote it - Jimmy Webb... he can't be beat!

  • Nina was fine!

  • i think its important to take into account who recorded the original but just as important to realize a later cover can be superior.

as much as i love roberta flack, the four tops and especially nina simone i think the clarence carter version is far and away the best, followed by the al wilson version.

its hard to ruin a song this good though if its performed by a talented vocalist.

  • @ghettrocentricity hear hear...there is no right or wrong version..just ones own personal favourite version

  • In Kanye voice: "Nina had one of the best voices of all time".

  • @twinoak170 - LOL!!

  • Well, I have to admit that I did watch a few of her other videos of other songs and I can see her greatness. I guess I just don't care for this performance.

  • thats funny its my favorite, i think its so powerful, its hard to sing too, you'd think it would be easy

  • Heresy! Nina is one of the best three recording artists of all time.

Wash your mouth out with soap and water.

  • This woman is so awesome!

  • the girl of my dreams sent me this song

  • I would like to know wheather this is an original song. There is a similar song sung by a Malaysian band clalled "The Stroller" in the 70s

  • this beautiful song was written by the great jimmy webb every version of this song is wonderful but if you hear levi stubbs of the 4 tops sing it your gonna shed a tear its so emotional my favourite song of all time j vincent edwards

  • Don't miss Roberta Flack's version either. I love the Tops version also. I had to hear Nina's version here. It's nice--never heard this before.

  • What about the Al Wilson version- it works better as a guy song

  • jimmy webb

  • My parents bought a Nina Simone "8 Track" :) when I was about 12. Even at that age I knew that I was listening to a great person. I have loved Nina since that time. When I look back, it tell me something about myself that has lasted all of these years. It tells me that I am the same person then and now. I am an extreme liberal; that I love this nation and care about all people. I even care about those that hate me because I know that they are my brothers, even if they refuse to know.

  • What a great soulfull reaction, thank you for being you.

  • i can say the same about me and listening to Queen. i knew that Freddi was great) and he was. my brothers and i, we've grown up; they cannot listen to Queen anymore (groudups no teenagers huh). and me - i love it so much. i rediscover Queen with my new feelings.

so i disagree - years dont just drift by (as Nina sings;), maybe it's for me

  • @omoroomoro That is a very lovely post that has obviously also stood the test of time, much like your inspirational love for Nina.

  • @omoroomoro lol @ extreme liberal.... is that the new "cool" thing to be today?

  • @omoroomoro Nice thoughts. Never change.

  • @omoroomoro yeah ...peace and love to the world!

  • @omoroomoro .. I care about you, you are my brother , you got a right spirit in you! i love this nation too, love will conquer all!

  • @omoroomoro if only there were more in the world like you the world would be a far far better place,, good for u x

  • @omoroomoro wow what a great comment rally picks me up when i was feeling down if only there were more people like you,,,the world would be a far far better place xxxxx

  • @omoroomoro as a fellow liberal, Well said and love Nina, tremendously <3

  • I never heard this version before, this is good, but I prefer the other Nina Simone's version, with just her and the piano, it was a live version and it so intense and I felt her pain, that version always brings tears to my eyes.

  • This song makes me wish the people I loved would move away just so I could sing it to them.

  • who sung it first, Nina Simone or Roberta Flack. Both brilliant versions.

  • Johnny Rivers, wrote it (I think), but he diffinately sung it. .. you probably wouldn't recognize it though.

  • Love Love Love this song. Nina Simone was IT.

  • close my eyes and just relax to this.....

    :)

  • imagination is a double-edged sword.....

    dreams are addictive!

  • Hia, anticipation not good for the heart. She can Sing love it thanks

  • I always just assumed that this was a Clarence Carter song. I think his version is the best I've heard, but this one is up there.

  • It's a Jimmy Webb song. Other great versions are the original by Al Wilson from 1968 and the Four Tops, which was a Top 20 hit in the UK in '69.

  • Yes, my personal favorite Jimmy Webb song. He was just 21 when he wrote it!!

  • I love songs by Jimmy Webb. Glad to see there are fans of his on here! Have you heard a version of Linda Rondstant? It's stunning.

  • I have this on a 45 from the very late 60s or early 70s by Al Wilson. He's the guy that later did "Show and Tell". The song was written by Jimmy Webb. The song has always been a favorite of mine. It has comforted me when a couple of relationships ended.
