I love how raw Mark's voice was in the early days of the Raiders. Fang said he had the best scream of anyone in the music biz. I believe it. Just a gorgeous voice.
They don't make music like this anymore. Today's pop music is shit. The only current music I like is Heavy Metal, and even that ain't what it used to be.
This is just another great example of how Paul Revere & the Raiders were a tight band in the '60's and '70's. This video shows how great they perform and how cool it is to see them clown around while playing (ex: using toy instruments, Paul Revere shooting an arrow to Fang, Mark and Smitty with that "OMG" expression when Paul shoots the arrow. Mark looks real cool with that hat.
Just a reminder that this is the "first' version of Louie Go Home. The Raiders are possibly the only group to record both versions. FYI many groups recorded the first version - check your file sharing service.
This bears no resemblance whatever to the song of the same name on the Greatest Hits LP that came out around '67. That song was incredibly progressive for the time: Counterpoint in the rhythm section, meter changes in the interludes, and a flirtation with Indian ragas. This is something completely different. Anyone got the other one?
My gosh, I stand corrected! This sounded so different, I didn't even recognize the vocals! Thanks for the clarification. I do like this version a lot! I never heard it, I don't think....Thanks for posting it!
@kingvidiot66 you hear that "punkier"/harder version on PR&R's greatest hits LP. Hard one to follow when you aren't the greatest of beginner guitarists...
@kingvidiot66 The Who recorded this unwittingly thinking it was an old black blues after Pete Townsend taped a friend's private collection of R&B stuff. He didn't realize she was a Raiders fan and had some of their pre-Dick-Clark days stuff. The song was written by Mark Lindsay, which The Who have fully acknowledged.

Yes it is, it is the early version of it. They re-recorded it at a later date as the punkier version you are thinking of. Listen to the lyrics.

I meant that I didn't recognize the lyrics, not the vocals! No way to correct one's post on youtube, it appears....
