If the chase would not have started the way it did..reset to 5000 points plus bonus points...he would have walked away with the title after race #1!!! But you got me...he did lose it...on the other hand...he got a championship anyway...since he is the owner of Jimmie's car...you have to admit...he had one of the best seasons in a lonnnnng time...30 top tens...think it was 21 top fives...7 poles...and 6 wins...nothing to complain about there other than not getting the champion ship!!
The drivers all know how the system works.. Gordon should have saved his big points till the END of the year when he needed them most. He lost the Chmpionship and Johnson WON IT! End of the blah blah blah F'kin story!

If , IF , IF, There are NO if's in the Chase format. Did you see Gordon when he got out of his car after the last race?? He was NOT happy! I believe it would have been less painfull for him to fininsh the chase in 6th place, several weeks in advance.

This didn't happen on lap 40, it happened on lap 23 or so. Gordon came back out on the track, picked up 2 positions, and then retired after 40 laps.
