  • Where ypu learn on mapping. It seems your knowledge is not findable on source sdk webs

  • Awesome tutorial! I've always wondered why some props had fail shadows.

But about the light_environment's ambient setting, does it really cast everywhere? I think I recall it only being emitted from the skybox where the shadows of the sun would be o.o

  • This gave a great overview in a short time. GJ and thanks a ton.

  • Yes 0:13 I'm in ur Video TopHatt!

  • omg i cant even save the light.rad when i edit it says only for reading wtf

  • @soldierrob909 Then make is not "read only"...

  • @rocketrascal34 when i compile with the default it freezes and when i do fast compile with the codes it gives weird codes ...

  • @soldierrob909 Because the compile it working, it's not frozen, just let it work.

  • so what i have to do to get those nice shadow because when i open light.rad it only has 1 weird code ..

  • The famous question, what's the outtro song used in the slideshow?

  • what program are you using to record? I see u have FRAPS running but its not red, indicating that you are recording with it.

  • One question TopHatt, how did you set your Hammer to preview the lighting effects in the 3d view?

Mine just shows the light model itself but I'd like to have those sprite effects to better show me where the lights actually are

  • Ok, but what if I want to copy ALL the models in the lights.rad thing? Do i have to do it 1 by 1 or there is some sort of shortcut?

  • @PrincePhoenixThe1st You have a leak in your map.

  • how come your tower to look better than everything i ever have created? :(

  • notepad++ isn't letting me edit the file, its only letting me look at it.

  • @GamerFollower

I have fixed the problem, but now when I compile the maps, it wont compile light, it says to choose compile settings for light in the compile log...

  • Since using these advanced compile settings I have been unable to compile the map. SDK Keeps saying, during the compile process, that the file specified cannot be found. I'm not sure it has anything to do with this, but eh, worth asking.

  • @rockgod111 And yes, I realize that no question was actually asked in that post. Allow me to make one. Could anything that I might have screwed up from this video be causing this or could it be something else, and if so what is the solution?

  • what did you use to make the intro

  • thanks for tut and the others, real useful :)

  • thanks for the tutorial :]

  • I'm the 1337 viewer =D, muhaha

  • that tree shadows are quiete amzing

  • lets say i don't wanna use hdr, do i have to use -ldr or simply remove -both? Also I'm not sure but the only parameter that is working for me is -final and -both. When i put the other parameters, the vrad don't execute.

  • nice tutorial :D ....what's the name of the song that plays on the end of tut ? :D :D

  • I watched this intro like 20 times its freaking awesome

  • wow yesterday i needed a tutorial on this :0

  • I've always just disabled the shadow on the junk props...

  • @vectormanforever Now you can have shadows lol

  • I came ... I seen... I SUBBED !!!

  • @MunchyToast001

    veni, vidi, subci

  • Wow this helped my map big time

  • I FUCKING LOVE YOUR FUCKING VIDEOS!!!!! FUCK

  • i dont like using hdr it makes it look too bright and glowey

also is it necessary to use a light-map scale to the power of 2 i always use 1 on faces that i need very nice shadows

  • @honse246 There's an entity that can modify the exposure/hdr stuff.

  • @honse246 env_tonemapcontroller

  • The tree shadows are just beautiful :D

  • OMG I CAME

  • @notilhenger Good to know...

  • This was a great tutorial thank you! I've been wondering how to make my trees cast better shadows :). And I agree with you that having a lightmap grid of 4 is amazingly pretty, but sadly I rarely use small lightmap grids (unless I really feel like it) now that I'm trying to optimize my maps <:). Once again thanks for the tutorial.

  • Thanks! :D

  • great tutorial covering this magnificent secret... well done

  • Great tips, I never knew about those compile properties, I'll use those for now on!
