But about the light_environment's ambient setting, does it really cast everywhere? I think I recall it only being emitted from the skybox where the shadows of the sun would be o.o
Since using these advanced compile settings I have been unable to compile the map. SDK Keeps saying, during the compile process, that the file specified cannot be found. I'm not sure it has anything to do with this, but eh, worth asking.
@rockgod111 And yes, I realize that no question was actually asked in that post. Allow me to make one. Could anything that I might have screwed up from this video be causing this or could it be something else, and if so what is the solution?
lets say i don't wanna use hdr, do i have to use -ldr or simply remove -both? Also I'm not sure but the only parameter that is working for me is -final and -both. When i put the other parameters, the vrad don't execute.
This was a great tutorial thank you! I've been wondering how to make my trees cast better shadows :). And I agree with you that having a lightmap grid of 4 is amazingly pretty, but sadly I rarely use small lightmap grids (unless I really feel like it) now that I'm trying to optimize my maps <:). Once again thanks for the tutorial.
Where ypu learn on mapping. It seems your knowledge is not findable on source sdk webs

Awesome tutorial! I've always wondered why some props had fail shadows.

@rocketrascal34 when i compile with the default it freezes and when i do fast compile with the codes it gives weird codes ...
soldierrob909 3 months ago
@soldierrob909 Because the compile it working, it's not frozen, just let it work.
rocketrascal34 3 months ago

The famous question, what's the outtro song used in the slideshow?
lilben869 3 months ago
what program are you using to record? I see u have FRAPS running but its not red, indicating that you are recording with it.
badATchaos 3 months ago
One question TopHatt, how did you set your Hammer to preview the lighting effects in the 3d view?
Mine just shows the light model itself but I'd like to have those sprite effects to better show me where the lights actually are
SilentValtiel8 4 months ago
Ok, but what if I want to copy ALL the models in the lights.rad thing? Do i have to do it 1 by 1 or there is some sort of shortcut?

@GamerFollower
I have fixed the problem, but now when I compile the maps, it wont compile light, it says to choose compile settings for light in the compile log...

i dont like using hdr it makes it look too bright and glowey
also is it necessary to use a light-map scale to the power of 2 i always use 1 on faces that i need very nice shadows
honse246 1 year ago
@honse246 There's an entity that can modify the exposure/hdr stuff.
