I'm 85 episodes into The Gatchaman series & this one, episode 81, "Duel On Galactor Island" is my favorite one so far. I highly recommend watching this in it's entirety. However, episode 78, "Mortal Combat! 5,000 Fathoms Under The Sea" may be worth catching first as its storyline ties into what you see in this episode.
If this were "Battle Of The Planets", best believe that there would be 1:17 of 7-Zark-7 talking mindless babble or the gang rocking out and eating "Space Burgers" in the "Ready Room".
What a fighter - I loved this guy ! The only thing that bugs me in this piece is the fact that his friend Alan (now Father Alan) calls him "Joji" japanese pet name version of George - but its subbed as Asakura his surname ?? I love it when he gets really mad right at the end of this piece !!!!! Bird Go G2 !
Knowing what fate had in store for Joe, I put off watching the last few episodes of gatchaman for while. I was glad to see he didn't go out like a punk.
I was upset, when I found out what the north american kids (including me up in ontario canada) were treated to the LAMEST EDITED versions of Gatchaman, called Batlle of the Planets. Aside from that, some of my favorite memories of anticipation of any Animated series, along with VOLTRON. The Voltron's were butchered TOO, but the spirit surpassed censorship thankfully.
I totally agree. I never knew about Gatchaman until recently. I thought the only thing out there WAS "Battle of the planets" I've never even seen any of the original Japanese episodes, only bits from you tube. A petition should go out to make an epic film on this show. If there is a petition out there, sign me up.
No shit? CGI? It would be cool to see it in live action. I'd like to see Katie Holmes or Rachel cook as princess(I don't know that characters original Japanese name) complete with the white cotton panty shots. YUMMY! YUMMY!....Fuck! I got drool on my keyboard.
@nikendn Funny dude... but hey as long as you're a Gatchafan...thats awesome. If you're looking for other Gatchaman works, you can check out the Gatchaman '94 anime OVA that came out back in '94/95... It does not really do the original series justice to a degree but it has good animation.
This episode ("Duel on Galactor Island") was cut from both "Battle of the Planets" and "G-Force" due to it's strong violence and death of a religious figure. It was with ADV's recent Gatchaman release that we finally got it in the U.S.

G-1/Ken, The Eagle Mark
G-2/Joe, The Condor Jason
G-3/Junpei, The Swan Princess
G-4/Jinpei, The Swallow Keyop
G-5/Ryu, The Owl Tiny
