  • The Neomix that they used has fiber in it.

  • Their melamine form is nice.....but very expensive. I used old melamine coated interior doors from the Habitat Restore. They were $5 each and worked great.

  • did you guys add rebar or rewire

  • They forgot to put in some rebar for reinforcement! In 15 years or so, someone is gonna have to remove it to replace cabinet's or something, and it's gonna break in half and smash their foot or break their shin bone! Damn freak accident's!!!

  • @lamproking1 They said they used a Fiber additive. For this low pressure situation no rebar would be needed.

  • @xdayonx Heres the problem with the fiber additive.....if you use it you have to do a two pour process pouring the surface first and a second core material pour. You cannot have the fiber in the surface material.....it frays when you try to polish the surface.

  • Thank you for the video!

  • I am pretty sure they will be replacing those with granite soon.

  • It states in the beginning of the video that the additive they put for the color and fibe,r ect. has a water reducer in it. For those of you saying the slump is too high, research superplasticizers.

  • Can the concrete be polished to expose the aggregate? Is there a video on that?

  • @Mncat30 yes actually if you have ever seen "quartz" counter tops you may be surprised to find out that they are actually concrete counter tops.

  • the video makers and commenters are all funny. I love it.

  • No need for wire- Neomix is glass fiber and color - etc. Looks great to me - the top is perfect so apparently not too much water.

  • Holy Cow that is some runny concrete! I imagine the concrete guy standing off camera with his hand over his mouth to keep from laughing.

  • So many critics with there 2 cents. If your such a professional and know how to do this so well, then why not make your own video?! These guys are showing you how to do this in 8 minuets. I like this video.

  • @yournamehere954 I agree. Every time I look up a DIY there is some genius talking about how wrong they are. Often it's just splitting hairs and here, they're just arguing with success. If the cement was too thick the top of the counter would not be so smooth & seeing is believing, it looked great.

  • Sorry, but their acid staining is all wrong...

  • QC is now bankrupt. Try Proline brand acid stain.

  • thanks for the info im doing this right now. do you have any info about the final sealer

  • Are these guys boyfriends???

  • I am not a professional, I am just a hobbyist when it comes to making concrete countertops and furniture. Even I know these guys are making mistakes. To think, almost 25,000 people have watched this video, and maybe 25% of them do it this way... sad.

  • @yokohamaguy75 can you elaborate so we know what is wrong? I am thinking of doing one myself. Thanks!

  • This video will tell you exactly what not to do. There's a whole list of things they didn't do right, and contractors that put wax on their countertops are just buying enough time to get your check to the bank. If you want a real DIY kit, look us up and we'll make sure you have everything you need to make sure it's done right.

  • hmm... this vid is suspect

  • Trikmail is right.

A slab this big needs reinforcing to minimize cracking. The mixture is too wet (weak) which will contribute to bigger cracks.

Fiber will not replace rebar; it adds to the overall strenght and helps prevent cracking.

  • First off - Way way too much water in the mix for Home Depot Concrete. Quikrete 5000 is great outta the bag but the slump they mixed it to was way too high. It should have been mixed to no more than a 6 inch slump MAX - and thats being generous - Rebar would have been a nice touch, would have made the counter top unbreakable, the fiber-mesh is great but they should have at least put in wire mesh to keep the cracking down, and like protecting any other surface from stains you have to seal it.

  • so if you can stain concrete...then what keeps it from staining every time you spill something on it in the kitchen????

  • @ccm800

Because people generally don't ever use muriatic acid while preparing food and drink.

  • So how so you make a top with a sink hole?

  • @papadonto8 make the form that way

  • Yes, no rebar. Microfiber generally makes it much stronger than rebar ever would.

  • There's so much wrong with this video Im not really sure where to start.

  • @CONCRETE13 please do!

  • no rebar?! as the heavy slab settles on the cabinet bases you better hope it doesnt crack!! use metal!!!

  • Nice!! How do you mount these,Tapcon? I suppose the designs are unlimited.. I think I will give it a try, maybe for the garage countertops first... nice video

  • Looked like the one they demolded wasn't screeded off.

Was a lot of water, but the claim is that you don't need wire with the microfibers.

  • Should of used wire in it.

  • They used too much water in the mix. The concrete mix is way too runny for a Neomix job. It's supposed to be like oatmeal, not like gruel.

  • @tech2rescue they may have used a plasticiser

  • great job
