My God I have so many different versions of the original trilogy... VHS, VHS letterbox, VHS boxed set, boxed set with From Star Wars to Jedi, and several copies of DVD versions. And one version of the prequels. Damn you Lucas!!! lol
I Bought the 2002 vhs at National Wholesale Liquidators. A New Hope and Return of the Jedi didn't work until I had to fix the film. Only A New Hope and Empire works Return sheared its gears.
I think it's so rediculous how just about every video release of Star Wars has been "limited time only."
They have the new versions in 1997, then release those versions again but in a different box with a new feature on episode II. Then you have the exact same dvd discs of the special editions in 4 different boxes, the last two of which also include the original versions.
I purchased this set in 2002, as I did not have Empire from the '95 release. My MAIN complaint with this collection, and it may have been MY copy only... but the sound was HORRIBLE. really bad tracking issue it seemed, but with the sound. there was this crackling hiss through ALL THREE movies.
I don't think it was really a secret that George did not like Dvd. In fact back in the Late 90's when Dvd became the leader in the Industry. He breifly spoke in interviews when the StarWars saga on dvd came up about a better format that he liked was just down the line. That was super-high definition and could hold much more information and data. Of course we know what he was talking about now. And we know what's coming on Blu-ray disc Box set in a yr or two.
Can anyone post the trailer for the first widescreen editions? I think it started with the line 'So, you think you've seen the whole of the Star Wars legend on video. -(Reveal widescreen star destroyer)- Well, think again.'
On VHS, I had the Original Trilogy, then bought the widescreen versions when they came out, then the first remastered versions, then I got the special editions, and finally the DVD versions. I also had the Laserdisc box set of the OT but never got hold of a Laserdisc player to watch them. More money than sense in those days!
how many VHS releases these movies had, I had the original versions on VHS, then I bought the special edition VHS BoxSet, but then I sold it cause I didn't like all the changes made. I also owned a LaserDisc player, my friend owned the definitive CAV box set and I used to borrow from him, he also had the special edition box set, I borrowed that off him once too. Then the DVDs came out and no other release of star wars looked and sounded as good as the DVDs.
My late uncle got that boxed as a present from his sister in law back in 2000 but when he died in 2003 I inherited it but now that I got them on DVD i decided to give it away as a present out of generosity
I saw that at a second hand store

There wasn't a Revenge of the Sith VHS. All my Star Wars tapes look odd.
1, 2, 4, 5, 6. You'd think they would have at least released Revenge of the Sith before they completely phased out VHS.

They did release it on video, but only in Europe.

Now that my hardcore fandom is over, and I'm older and more jaded, I can see the greed more easily.
Putting a behind-the-scenes of Episode II clip before a re-re-re-re-release is just pushing it.

why is lucas always so reluctant to release star wars on the newest format?
Freebird11011988 2 years ago
so long as you know this was from 2002...
because Lucas knows we'll all get it on dvd and THEN wait to release it in 3-D for theaters, and THEN release an Ultimate Collection.
