  • He makes me feel like I'm watching blues clues but what a GREAT teacher!!!!

  • @dannyneal1027 Sorry and thank you:)

    Rod

  • Thank you for this! My 5 year old just started ballet & tap. Parents don't get to watch the lessons, and ballet is only 30 min a week and tap 15 min a week.. So, they don't really get to learn a whole lot. I want to have her practice at home.... but have no clue what to even have her do. This makes life a whole lot easier - THANK YOU!

  • @SuperChloeJayde My pleasure. NOTE: There is a VERY GOOD CHANCE that your daughter is learning different names for steps than the ones I teach. This an unfortunate part of the tap world - the terminology is not standardized. I bring this up because I don't want your daughter to be confused. It's good for her to practice with my videos, but tell her the names may be different than in her class. Also, go to tapdancelessons(dot)com where you'll find newer videos laid out in order!

    Rod

  • lovely vid... I have always wanted to learn... but being a little older than your students.. I like what you said in your intro... We are not all excellent. * students...

  • I wanna dance like the river island dancers. Are their methods different? And where do I learn that type of tap dancing?

  • @ZephonTLucifer I'm sorry, but I've never heard of them so I can't give you a good answer.

    Rod

  • @musictaps They're a local group here that base their dances on the River dance performances. I saw them then I saw the actual river dance in NY and I just went nuts. If you type up River Dance on youtube you'll be blown away. Thats the type of tap dancing I wanna learn...if I can.

  • @ZephonTLucifer I didn;t realize you meant like the dancers in River Dance. That's Irish Step Dancing and it is indeed different than tap dancing. Best of luck!

    Rod

  • This is fantabulous! I have two (count 'em - TWO) left feet and even I can do this. You are a GREAT teacher!

  • This is an old lesson which is not available for purchase and to put on an iPod, but my newer, better, beginner lessons are available for purchase at unitedtaps(dot)com (got to the "menu" in the navigation bar and then down to "store"). Once downloaded you can transfer them to your ipod. They may need to be converted to M4V in iTunes but that shouldn't be a problem. You can download samples to test it out. Le me know if you need assistance.

    Rod

    Rod

  • Thank you for this video. Soon, I'll be "attempting" to take Tap Dance in college (when I've had no prior dancing experience) and this video was extremely helpful. I know I won't walk into class feeling like an idiot because I have some basic steps down.

    Rod

  • Made my first step today's dawn. Thanks Rob! The lesson is easy to follow and quite fun! Hope I didn't wake up my roommate. ><

  • @captjack89 Glad to be of help and thanks for watching.

  • @ultdj Thank you so much. Good luck with the class I think you'll really enjoy it. Don't be afraid to try out different teachers. Every class and the pace of every class is different, it's worth the time to find one that works really well for you. Good luck.

    Rod

  • @EvosaurusRex You're very welcome!

    Rod

  • was laughing the whole time, it's great

  • @gabcarol8 Am I that funny? ;) I wish my wife thought so!

    Rod

  • @musictaps You are a most adorable tap dancing nerd (I know some people take offense to being called a nerd but I assure you, from one nerd to another, I mean it in the nicest way possible) I'm sure your wife agrees. You must work with kids, I certainly wouldn't have quit tapping when I was little if my teacher had been so much fun. I usually don't have the patience for learning anything slowly but you're so entertaining that I actually enjoy it!

  • @squeezebx I appreciate the compliment (I accept the Nerd badge with pride). Glad you enjoyed the lesson.

    Rod

  • @gabcarol8 hahahaha! Me too! He's great!!! :D

  • I love this.:P

  • @aliadye I'm so glad, thank you.

    Rod

  • Thanks for this video, it's really helpful

  • @ponytailsxx You're very welcome. Hope you enjoyed it.

    Rod

  • i don't know if this is meant for little kids, but either way, you explain things so well, taking your time, keeping things simply... a great way to teach!

  • @MonaFabuleux Thank you, I really appreciate that. It's really intended for any age, but my speaking tone sometimes leans towards the voice I would use with kids (probably because I teach mostly kids). I highly recommend you watch my newer beginner videos as they better in every way. Thanks for watching.

    Rod

  • i don't know if this is meant for little kids, but either way, you explain things so well, taking your time, keeping things simply... a great way to teach!

  • Wooo this is sooo much fun :)

  • @Evettebear Glad you enjoyed it, you should try my new higher quality beginner series at tapdancelessons(dot)com.

    Rod

  • I'm really excited to see everything people are contributing to dance. I have a small studio in CT and I am starting up a tap jam to raise money to bring in guest teachers. Also teaching a fundamentals of tap class for adults starting Monday which is why I'm out searching for new ideas. I hope that I'll at least be able to post videos for my students to use for practice by next year. Keep up the good work!

  • @TheMADmissmia Sounds like your're doing some really great things. be sure to check out my website with a great free video dictionary and syllabus at unitedtaps(dot)com.

    Rod

  • I teach kids too and always talk like that. Even when I was teaching the Dad's dance for the recital.

  • @TheMADmissmia Yeah, it's a tough thing when you're used to teaching mostly kids. It's a little better in my new videos, but it's still an issue/challenge for me.

    Rod

  • What Kind Of Step Is That? A STEP is when you pick up your foot, drop, and pick it back up. Correct?

  • @Carrie1496 I teach step as when you put the the ball of the foot on the floor with your weight on it. If you put the ball of the foot on the floor without weight and pick it back up, I call that a touch.

    Rod

  • Hey you put this video up on me B-Day!!!! :D i need to get some tap shoes....i am using dress shoes now..:|

  • @nadiaalinadancer1997 Happy B-Day. Dress shoes are fine to start. Amazon(dot)com has tap shoes.

  • @naturalsweety18 Glad you liked it! I have a whole beginner series at tapdancelessons(dot)com.

    Rod

  • @musictaps .... first was easy, but now i can`t concentrate and my foot move different, funny...

  • @naturalsweety18 It will come, just give it time and practice. Remember you rarely ever use your feet like this. We mostly only use them for walking or running. Stick with it and you'll certainly get it.

    Rod

  • @musictaps yeah you right!!!!!!!!! I love your videos and every day I try and try... its so funny, hey nice job!!! your videos keep me motivated! ;) thankssssssssss ;)

  • @musictaps yeah you right!!!!!!!!! I love your videos and every day I try and try... its so funny, hey nice job!!! your videos keep me motivated! ;) thankssssssssss ;)

  • @ladywafflecake Thanks. I hope you'll try my beginner series at tapdancelessons(dot)com.

    Rod

  • bravo!!!! thanks for helping!! XD make more videos!!!!!!!

    Rod

  • @mariabizute Good for you! Keep us updates on how it's going.

    Rod

  • That's wonderful, I'm just starting to tap dance myself. :)

I was afraid I couldn't because I'm 18 and I thought I had to start in an early age, but now I'm pretty optimistic. :D

  • @Vogueniichtsoviel Actually i've found adults learn faster so you've really got an advantage.

    Rod

  • @Vogueniichtsoviel

Oh my God! I'm 18 too! I was so afraid itd be too late!

I feel the same now...why not give it go eh?

  • II think you are a very very good teacher. I personally did for many years International Latin and I'm quite interested to a new style such as tap dancing. I love the different rhythm you can create with your feet...

  • @Percevl84, Thank you so much, I'm glad you enjoyed it. You should check out my new beginner series on youtube.

    Rod

  • Great Video! I'm going to school to be a dance instructor, and I took tap for 12 years and taught for 5, but now I want to have my own studio. I've been out of dance for 7 years and just trying to remember certain steps. i'm just searching for great videos on how to teach. You should do a video for teachers. But once you've done it, you don't lose it! : )

  • I hope you found this video useful. I have new series of beginning videos you could check out as well as intermediate and advanced lessons at tapdancelessons(dot)com and they're all free. Good luck with your studio!

    Rod

  • oh this is pretty helpful, and pretty hilarious idk how you managed like the first half of this without the music like at 2:06... so hilarious and informative. thanks.

  • Thanks...I think. You should watch my newer one that's linked to in the beginning of the video. I have a whole series so I hope you'll continue on.

    Rod

  • you're the best.

    Thank you from my heart!!!!

  • You're so welcome! I'm so glad this video was helpful although you should check out the new the #1 beginner video as it's filmed better and is part of a whole beginner series.

    Rod

    Rod

  • omg u helped me soooo much..wow..i think i should try out for tap

    THANK YOU SOOOOOOOO MUCH

  • You're very welcome and I say go for that try-out!

    Rod
