It is actually a line from 'Big Sur'. When Jack wakes up hung over in San Francisco, realizing his goal to escape the drinking and partying that was creating chaos around him would never be possible, he tells himself "One fast move or I'm gone". I believe it is in the first chapter and motivates him to focus on his planned refuge to Big Sur.
It's a line from Visions of Cody. Kerouac was talking about that feeling of losing oneself if you stay in the same place for too long. Like his surroundings were suffocating him and if he didn't escape he would lose himself or die (physically and/or metaphorically) and that the only solution was to leave (even though that presented its own problems). 'least that's what i think.
its interesting that gibbard and farrar chose this style for a kerouac tribute album....especially since kerouac was born from and influenced by the old jazz musicians, i imagined a more retro take
@intrototheory212 yeah, but most of Kerouac's writing was about the west and had a very country/western feel to it. It fits it so well because of the whole western feeling to it! :D

Still love the music. Not attracted to Ben anymore though. I liked him chubby, with shorter hair, and big sexy glasses... Oh baby. He was a sexy beast. Still has an amazing voice... so I will forgive him.
This album's a pretty decent effort in the alt. country style. If nothing else Death Cab for cutie fans finally discovered Kerouac. Someday they might be ready for Corso.
Guys I got the Studio version on my channel, in case you need to share it somewhere and couldn't find it (:

@threechord I suspect the line one fast move and I am gone is the root which is older than me for certain. Anyway. Love the song.

No disrespect to Ben Gibbard whatsoever, but I love how when he makes this album he suddenly turns all alt-country.

@jordanjohnston91 Jay Farrar is country, not Ben Gibbard.
ScientistxMD 1 year ago
@ScientistxMD I know that. I said that Ben Gibbard suddenly turned country when he made this album. Of course Jay Farrar is country.

Look at that shaggy hair! Jay looks more like his 90s Son Volt and Uncle Tupelo days than just a few years ago playing solo.
