On the point of the stealing (this has nothing to do with beilkd's comment), is it normal when u have a ferret, and your deodorant and ur ferret go missing for a couple of days, and then the ferret comes back smelling like flowers, and then u find ur deo, and it's covered in little ferret hairs??

My ferret was very lazy and liked to reach down to his water bottle without getting out of his hammock, and we suppose he fell once trying to and he partly broke his neck. He was pretty much paralized and all we could do was comfort him... He passed a week later, but then a week after that my sisters ferret died in her sleep. Of depression we believe.
I have 3, two males (Frapachino and Starbuck) and little creame colored female (Latte). Frap and Starbuck like to steal socks, slippers, and shoes. The drag them under the same dresser every time. used to have a 4th, an albino male names Sirius. He died 1 1/2 years ago after a long battle with adrenal grand disease.

One of mine once pranced into the living room when I was about to leave for a (first) date dragging a bra with him. I must have turned 18 different shades of red.

I'm still heart broken over it , he was the only one that bonded with me completly.
But he fought to the end I think he knew I'd be with him , I held him through his final sleep and seen the relief I'n his eyes. And yes it's horrible there life is so short.
It's what you make of the time you do have what matters most.!

@brians235 Dee passed away in January. I don't think mentally I could handle another one. They have such short life spans. I don't think I can go through that again! I miss her so much!
@mstoini i had to go thru 2 of my best fuzzies dying in a short period of time from one another, lost one cause we couldnt figure out how much insulin to give him and the other "smokey" died of being lonly, my roommate and i tried to cheer him up but he missed his brother too much. i would consider having another ferret cause i do miss the fun times with them. It's been 3 months but i swear i still hear them 2 running in the apt at times. loved my smokey and fuzzybutt =)

@BlAhHaDaBoY123 They have a very high rate of adrenal and pancreatic cancer. It can be very sad. They are a lot of work as well. They have a very quick metabolism causing them to eat and drink a lot and therefore piss and shit a lot, all over the place, usually in corners. And no matter how good a job you do they will still be stinky. If you get one please rescue one that has been abandoned at a ferret shelter.
@BlAhHaDaBoY123 oldest one was 13 european ferrets seem to live longer than american ones by a year or two on average for some reason or another. thats not opinion its proven fact i found it out when i was researching for my two. sorry to hear about your loss by the way
@Greagreta I actually stopped using the collar on her not too long after this. It made it much easier to find her though but her weight seemed to fluctuate so much that I got rid of it.

Can you take a ferret for a walk? Or would it just run off as soon as it got outside....just wondering if the behavior is similar to a dog or cat. Cuz cats can go outside and will come back to your house, my cat did. Dogs won't run away, they're loyal. but it seems a ferret would just want to run away lol
@mstoini Dee is adorable! Anyone who doesn't think so needs to buy a clue! I love my little furries and wouldn't trade them for the world. I laughed so hard watching Dee struggle with that hairbrush...too funny!
@hoopz2598 You can take ferrets for a walk, but as mstoini said, only on a leash. They do not have the survival instincts or fear as they have been too domesticated over the years, and they are too curious. They would most likely be in great danger if they got outside without supervision. But they are AWESOME pets to have, although they are usually not much on cuddling, (they got too much nosing around to do) they are loads of fun to play with. I have 4 girls and I love them all!
@hoopz2598 depends on how the dog or cat is raised and what kind of personalities they have. one of our cats completely ran away. the next one stayed indoors, along with her sister, but would go outside and sniff around then run back in the house when you yelled "CINDY!!!!!!!" it was cute. Whereas if you brought her sister outside she'd freak out and demand to be put back.
@hoopz2598 It's not that they want to run away it's that they love to explore and may forget their way back to you so it's best to keep them on a leash. Once took mine to the bank ATM on a Sunday. One in the lobby between the outside door and the main part of the bank. I put her down cause it was all closed in and I thought she would be safe. She found an opening and got into the main part of the bank. She had a good time running all over for 20min and then came back through the hole to me.
My ferret learned by herself to open bags and close them,just clasps, to don't make us notice it when she steals: cigarettes(to eat them -.-"),tissues,aspirins(to eat them too...),chocolate or wallets xD
Ferrits are expencive and need alot of care. If your gone all the time they are not the pet for you. They need at least 4 hours a day out of their cage or they get depressed wich means they will stop eating and bite. yea they smell, and you have to keep an eye on them or they will get into trouble.
@VooDooDaLette U r right they r costly and alot of care but self entertaining, so u can do other things (they even help lol) Smell is usually from over bathing, and not cleaning their cage daily. Bathe once every 2-3 months is fine and spritz em, keep cage clean with deodorizer they are no worse then any other pet. I have 4 in my guest room and everyone says same: I thought ferrets smelled bad, your don't. Ferret proofing is VERY important. They are still worthwhile pets by far.
Ferrets need ferrets. Cages are mostly too small even if they are "only" a few hours in it, a "self-made" cage is much better. A cage made out of a big cupboard would be perfect but ferrets need their time too run around and play about 3 hours a day. Ferrets need also meat but no pork - this would be very dangerous for them and they could die because of a virus. Ferrets love chicken - no vegetables or fruits . This is for everyone who wants to have a pet/ferret. Please tell them this, too.

I have two ferrets and my friend has two, we have tried to train them but, they are untrainable. Ive come to the conclusion they are not intelligent enough. Maybe there are a few rare exceptions,but you can expect them to poop all over your house. OK yes ferrets are funny ,but they are also mischievous, do you like your houseplants dug up with soil sprayed in a ten foot radius? Yes thats awesome.

@jasminhannahmontana I don't know about that. As I understand it, ferrets are domesticated animals like a dog or cat but I don't think they can survive on their own. I also don't know the laws for Singapore, sorry.
They do bite a lot but you can train them not to (it's a lot of work!). I've trained mine to poop in her cage or my cat's litter box. Raisins usually do the trick on that one. :)
@PrematureEgo they bite for the first few weeks, but it's not really a problem. they only poop in corners. i always put newspaper in the corner where i know they always poop and just throw it away when they're done playing. they're great pets but need a lot of care!!

Ferrets need ferrets. Cages are mostly too small even if they are "only" a few hours in it, a "self-made" cage is much better. A cage made out of a big cupboard would be perfect but ferrets need their time too run around and play about 3 hours a day. Ferrets need also meat but no pork - this would be very dangerous for them and they could die because of a virus. Ferrets love chicken - no vegetables or fruits . This is for everyone who wants to have a pet/ferret. Please tell them this, too.

I have a few questions about ferrets. 1. Are they expensive + their accessories.
2. Is litter box training hard and do you have to clean the box everyday?
3. Do they smell if so how do you keep them not smell.
4. If your away (like in school) do you keep them in a cage and if you do, do you setup food and water. or what?
5. can you make them do tricks like give a paw rollover and jump?

@mstoini lol i know how that can be, my dad was cleaningn his room so he moved his dresser and behind it were i kid you npt 24 shoe soles that my three ferrets had stolen and hid!! i live with my mom now and i am trying to convince her to let me get one, because i cant live without them!

they LOVE anything RUbber. We have a drawer that is just for JuJu our ferret, she hides Crackers, potatos and if she finds a toothrbrush, remote control or pen with rubber on it..OFF she goes LMAO

I have two ferrets and my friend has two, we have tried to train them but, they are untrainable. Ive come to the conclusion they are not intelligent enough. Maybe there are a few rare exceptions,but you can expect them to poop all over your house. OK yes ferrets are funny ,but they are also mischievous, do you like your houseplants dug up with soil sprayed in a ten foot radius? Yes thats awesome.

First of all ferrets are no dogs or monkeys, they are more like cats, the do what they want not what you want.
I have some ferrets and you can train every ferret. Just need to know how, simular to dogs but muuuuuch more time to invest.

GOODNESS that is so cute :) It's so funny how DETERMINED they get! If you sit anything out my Bailey will get SO mad that it's not hidden & she'll book it all across the house to her hiding spot! Ferrets are the best pets ever & I've had a ton of animals!

Hey is it true that i ask the pet shop ppl they said they only can be found in the forest and if u bring them to singapore u get sued i live in singapore so i am wondering why the rule is so strict furrets are cute creatures

@jasminhannahmontana I don't know about that. As I understand it, ferrets are domesticated animals like a dog or cat but I don't think they can survive on their own. I also don't know the laws for Singapore, sorry.

They do bite a lot but you can train them not to (it's a lot of work!). I've trained mine to poop in her cage or my cat's litter box. Raisins usually do the trick on that one. :)

@PrematureEgo they bite for the first few weeks, but it's not really a problem. they only poop in corners. i always put newspaper in the corner where i know they always poop and just throw it away when they're done playing. they're great pets but need a lot of care!!
