Impressive. I didnt get my pup to speak on command until around 12 weeks. When you want your pup to stand, you should prompt them. When they are standing naturally click and treat then work in the cue.
Am Bulldog's are so smart. That is exactly why I got one and I wasn't even a "dog person". I didn't spend a truckload of time training mine but he learned very quickly (like Pink) and he retained it for years and years. Only problem is...as he got older he got lazy lol He will try to do all his tricks at one time to get all his treats in one shot LOL tell me that isnt smart?
I may sound stupid.. but ive never seen clicker training. What is the purpose of it. I couldnt really hear the commands. What do you do say a command and click at the same time and shes supposed to do it?
I like American Bulldogs. Mine is a half breed with Lab as the other breed it has. I tried clicker training with mine, but he managed to swallow the damn thing lol
shit give her a chance to eat he one shes got first!! shit u give me enough treats ill do anything for u also. using treats all the time is a bad habit. they will expect treats all the time then. i have a seven week old pup that sits, lays down and stays without ever having to use treats.
@cory1926 You can start with treats or not it depends on the dog. My dogs got treats the odd time. But they will sit and give paw regardless if they get a treat or not but I know they still want that treat. But even the times they dont get one doesnt stop em from still doing whats asked and hoping
It's actualy amazing how fast these little buggers learn, you dont need treats, or anything like that. Our 9 week old American Bulldog cross Bullmastiff learnt vertualy everything in 5 staight days. She knows that she is doing well, and that motivates her enough, treats meen she is doing it for the food, not for herself!! either way, by far the most intelligent dog i've had to date!!
I used treats on my old dog as a reward. I taught him many great tricks and basic commands but I found I could not get him to do anything without a treat in my hand. I tried praising and petting him but without that magical treat, he was a dud.
Thank you. With a young puppy or a dog that is just learning the behavior I always use a reward, it is very important in the learning phase. If you train correctly, using proper markers, variable reinforcement schedules and gradually increasing the criteria you will get a dog that work happily for long periods of time without a reward.
I use food when teaching a behavior because it is generally easier to get more repetitions. With young puppies correct tug play in obedience can be difficult. I usually move to a tug as the dog becomes more coordinated and if you look at more recent videos of her I use both.
Very true and this is the method that I usually use but the biggest problem is they tend to step forward. IMO the stepping forward is harder to correct then the physical interaction. It usually takes three sessions before I can get the puppy standing without touching him/her. Thank you for the comment.
i love bulldogs got a 8 wk old american bulldog name Bella and she is wonderful

@Duma39 lol I know an American Bulldog like that. He goes through his whole trick repertoire without waiting for a command.

@TheMRamstaff Food is a much better motivator. When training Leo I only used freeze dried raw pieces of meat.

If you just pull the treat down while the dog is sitting on the table and wait them out, they will usually stand without any physical interaction.
