My trip to England, many moons back on a crowded plane, required me to sit on the lap of a fat woman. Upon arrival I noted that there was 200 extra dollars in my pocket.
bryan, you're one of my v.favourite artistes. but do stop encouraging your sad offspring's fox-bothering antics~they'll always be cooler..admit defeat
Some people took offence when she called Bryan.."The king of covers..."
But he IS in my opinion..the greatest cover artist that ever lived, as this sensetive and beutiful rendition confirms. Aside from that he is also one of the greatest song writers and lyricist's in his own right.
THE BEST SOULFUL LADS in the upper UK. .. even though at the West side the birth of the whole beat generation started ... he is from the East Side of UK and he is still jolly-good entertainer :-)

Oh wow ! That came out of left field -as has been said this is not too obviously flagged up! This is an absolutely beautiful rendition very very sensitively performed, P S further to some of the previous comments re accent - in the words of Galton and Simpson spoken by Patrick Cargill in Hancocks the Blood Donor sketch 'We can't all be Rob Roys !'
What a great song !! By one of the greatest singer ever. Only Brian Ferry can sing someone's song as good if not better. I'd had Joe Cocker too. But Brian Ferry lives what he sings !! Hope he's gonna tour Canda soon, western Canada .
this dude's gonna have a major hit (major hits) in the u.s. yet.....as he modifys his style just a little bit and the listening public catches up to that style, this class, this class act. he and the "listening public" are evolving....
Thanks for bringing us back to the fine music and this remarkable artist. I was packing a few essentials and preparing to spend the rest of my days in a well secluded cave. . . until you spoke up and put an end to all of the shallow chit-chat about his looks and accent.
He's got a bit of a turkey neck at this point, but the left-side bulge is the fault of horrific lighting, which for some reason you get a lot of with British pop shows.
He talks about the poetry of Dylan...but Bryan is also a poet. Many of his lyrics are pure genius. I can see why it would be tough to follow, but I hope he finds his muse soon so we can all hear the new Roxy album!
Yes. Came out only as a single in 1966, Blonde On Blonde period. The first Dylan Greatest Hits album (1967) was the only album with this song, once, although a later version of that album doesn't have the song on it anymore. It was the electric R&R Dylan, with the Hammond organ, like Like A Rolling Stone or Absolutely Sweet Marie
Excellent! I'm a great fan of Roxy Music and BF, but there's just one thing that puzzles me slightly. How did BF come to have such a posh accent (though nonetheless very pleasant to listen to), considering that he came from a working class family in Newcastle? Can anyone enlighten me?
Posh?Maybe education, travel or other circumstances?@ 63 and that career there wouldn't be a reason to affect that. She on the other hand seems to try to be the princess of Cockney(not knowing her or the the finesses of British"accents",is all i can say.I second elfboy's comment.
Do you realize how fucking ignorant you sound by asking this question? Are you trying to imply that because a person is born into a lower social status they are not entitled to have higher aspirations and better themselves professionally, intellectually, or spiritually? Thus evolving into better a human being! Because that's what happened to Brian Ferry; the wealthier and well-traveled he got to be, the more cultured and sophisticated he became. More power to him. People should never conform.
mengele800: I am completely shocked that you have put that interpretation on my comments!!! I am not saying anything about social status. I am not saying anything about it being wrong to have aspirations to better things. I am just saying it is fairly unusual for a person to grow up in one area of the UK and end up with an accent that sounds like they're from somewhere else. BF is an extremely talented / creative musician and lyricist and deserves everything he has achieved.
Brilliant interpretation....by the typically brilliant Ferry. This guy was ahead of his time from the very beginning....and they haven't caught up yet!

She's so rude calling him the King of Covers. She's obviously unaware of his back catalogue, and the influence he has had on countless bands.
sonsielass1 1 year ago 3
@sonsielass1 I agree. And in fact he rightly doesn't like the word 'covers'. He calls his 'covers' 'interpretations'. And that is what they are.

Positively 4th Street is an angry, bitter song, but Ferry's version is melancholic. It's so beautiful.
