  • I happened onto the Sundance Film Festivals list of best films and became interested in the throatsinging style music describes in Genghis Blues. I ordered the dvd and when I played it, I was taken aback at the wonderful story unfolding before me. Paul was indeed a marvel and I am truely grateful for the effort that created the film. Paul Pena was a very talented man, but more than that, his persona and essense shines forth in this film. Thanks for posting this video.

  • i was lucky enough to see paul in the early 70s playing at a summer concert series in worcester ma.I bought his album and it is still one of my favorites. I own the dvd of The Genghis Blues, which is a great film about a truly beautiful person.Thank you paul for your music and most of all your humanity.

    peace

  • bumped into Paul by "Genghis Blues" . I was immediately captivated by his music. Later I bought his album NEW TRAIN: awesome! It's sad that he didn't get the chance to big really BIG. Great talent. I think lots of the great musicians -Bonnie included - should have given him a chance to perform live more often. Sad he's gone. Story: I sent him a cd by a group of Tuvan throat singers who performed live in the streets of Amsterdam and it was a surprise he replied by email to thank me.

  • The man's a beautiful Soul

    shining to us all

Hope u are happy where u are now Paul Pena!

  • Paul Pena's music is awesome and not to stray to far from the subject, but I've never seen Bonnie Raitt's rack look so big than in the interview segment...

  • Rest in peace mr.Pena, thank you for showing me the wonderfull sounds of tuva

  • Paul was an inspiration to me a flower in the desert !! miss him .

  • An absolute genius. "New train" is one of the all-time great albums. "A bit of alright"= one of my all-time favorite songs.

  • Thanks for posting this bio. Wish i got to meet you Paul. You should know that I was in a blues bar in New York City recently and the band had your album in while they were on break.

  • Thank You paul! May a flight of angels sing thee to thy rest.

  • One of the BEST albums of all time...

  • The measure of a truly great soul, Paul, what's 30 years out of a couple of hundred million. Travel on !

  • I grew up in Harwich. Paul was much older than I. In the mid-1970's, While at Harwich High School, I remember someone pointing out the "P. Pena" The Cape Verdian/Portugeuse kids I knew spelled it "Pina", so I thought it may be an "urban legend", but I told the story many times over the years, regardless. I was happy to hear that the story was true after all that Paul was indeed from my hometown.

  • Paul's New Train CD will always be my favorite CD. That question: "what CD would you have if stranded on an island?" - it's New Train by Paul Pena for me. Paul also is on a CD released by Big Bones...you can hear his soulful and beautiful blues voice/guitar on that CD. I miss him & his live performances. Thank you for sharing your talents while with us! RIP Paul!

  • Thank you for posting this bio. Paul is a great person and I had the pleasure to meet him... Try to check out his work on Tuvan throat singing on Genghis Blues,(an amazing addition to American blues) It is a shame his album "New Train" took almost 30 years to be released Unfortunately Paul died of complications from diabetes and pancreatitis on October 1, 2005.- Peace & Love, Luis

  • Ben Sidran who had a produce the album is from Madison Wisconsin. He will play there every so often. I have a poster of "Ghengis Blues" that is signed by one of the directors of the movie. It's a shame that Paul Pena is no longer living but his music lives on forever.

  • see ghengis blues !!!!!!!

  • awesome! what a shame it took so long for that album to come out, its really good.
