@MrTheodore37 I disagree. Lucille Ball was a blunt, down-to-earth woman in real life--Dick Cavett described her as a "kind of 'hard-bitten show girl'--a quality I happen to admire." In some later interviews, Lucy's bluntness could sometimes border on surliness, but not, I think, in this interview. She seems low-key and rather charming here.
@Beejjjjjj There are a lot of stupid people on television, having a long career does not make them any smarter, I don't think he has done a good job in this interview.
@sweetpickles87 , it's very easy to dismiss someone as stupid or an idiot, but simple name-calling with no context is meaningless. His job as an interviewer is to illicit information from his subject. How has he failed in this case? What information were you expecting him to obtain from her that he didn't, and how would you have done better?
So many people have said that "Here's Lucy" was canceled, but Lucy herself wanted to end the series a year earlier in 1973. I tend to think i t was a mutual decision between CBS and Miss Ball to end the show.
the interviewer is an IDIOT...I stopped this vieo half-way, couldn't watch the rest of it...the fucken moron asks stupid questions and is annoying...he get's to interview a legend and cant get his act together...
jaja...I know, I didnt realize it was him until after I had posted my comment and then I read the video description...I think he might need a daily dosage of Vitameatavegamin !!!...
It's so good to see Lucille Ball pretty much as herself. I'd read and heard that she was not funny off camera and this interview proves that. Here she is seeming lke just an ordinary person who happened to be incredibly talented and by now, richer than Rockefeller. Also good to see some Phil Donahue interviews-get I hope there's a whole lof of his stuff about to appear on Youtube. He is missed.
But no one could be a better "musical" Mame but Angela Lansbury ... it's a shame she didn't do this movie, as it was a big stretch for Lucy to play the role at her age at that time.
I must say, that this is the first interview out of the hundreds that Ms. Ball had "Shown Up" for if you will this one seemed to make her look an sound bitter and annoyed but rightfully so she worked so hard in her life therefore everyone should be able to have their downtime from the glare of the "Hollywood Light" I assume this was during her "Time" I love Lucille and always ill appreciate her talent!
I love Lucille Ball, she was an amazing woman! we all miss her so much!

I thought it was great when she said how much she liked Mayor Daley of Chicago who was just hated by Donahue because of the '68 Democratic convention

Lucille seems so defensive. Almost unpleasant.

Why is this idiot interviewing the one and only Lucille Ball? He is horrible.

@sweetpickles87 , Phil Donahue is no idiot. He had one of the longest and most successful runs as a talk show host in history.

I think she was a very schrewd businesswoman and a stern taskmaster

Interesting, her comments about Liza--I always knew she liked her, but had never heard her say that on TV. I guess I missed this interview years ago.

Roz was great in the play and Angela ruled the musical.

Great interview..thanks for posting. Lucy is awesome. I must say, however, "Mame" was a dreadful, embarrasing mess of a film. Horrid!
