  • This song was a symphonic metal song long before anyone knew what that was. WHAT A CLASSIC! A masterpiece really.

  • warning: saxual content.

  • wow, it's been 34 years.... what the hell happened?

    still, thanks! love this song.

  • In this song, Gerry Rafferty is actually slagging off Baker Street, and London in general. The clue is in the second verse.

"This city desert makes you feel so cold It's got so many people but it's got no soul And it's taken you so long to find out you were wrong When you thought it held everything"

This is why London never used it as a promotional song.

I think this is most visitor's experience of London.

  • a want to here a remake for a tribute to this artist

  • Bob Holness??? He didn't really play the sax on this song, it was a HOAX!

  • Reminds me of the Winebar in the Cambrian Hotel Saundersfoot 1976. I used to play this and Music was my first love.

  • i've stayed in london for one year ,, since i left London i am gloomy and felling bad ,, i wish i could get the chance to visit London one day before i die .. miss london and londoners .. this video makes me cry .. baker street i miss you much .

  • "The tune is so catchy, it could linger in your brain for a long time."

I first heard it on a cassette of my mom's when I was 6or 7 year's old. She listened to that tape for years and then never again when she got a car with a cd player. Never knew the name, but I know the tune to that solo by heart. It has taken me upwards of 10 years to find out the name of that song.... AND THEN I CAME STRAIGHT TO YOUTUBE.

    love that sax.

  • Music to my ears... this is what real music used to sound like....not like the tunes we hear today....

  • the singing is not so good, but the sax is great!

  • the shadows do a good version of this too

  • I heard this in the summer of 1978 on Cape Cod, bored and trying to fall asleep, trying to dial in some good radio station.

I WILL buy my 32,000 acres in Africa, get the band together and host the BEST concert ever. And yes, I will sing this song. You are invited to sit with the cheetahs and the caracals, impalas and giraffes and listen to one of the best songs ever echoing off the mountains and over the veldt. It's my 32,000 acres and it's going to be fucking awesome. Oh, and bring friends.

  • @zavatone U, sir, are a badass!!

  • Gerry Gafferty, the original Epic Sax Guy.

  • @JimmytheTexan1441 well he wrote it with a guitar in mind ( you can find the original demo with no sax) , the sax is Ralph Ravenscroft.

But you are right it is a fine piece of sax-a-ma-phone

  • @JimmytheTexan1441 A man named Raphael Ravenscroft wrote and played the Sax part. Not Gerry.

Raphael Ravenscroft is the Original Epic Sax Guy.

  • Your cryin now

  • This song got a lot of airplay when I was an undergraduate. Great guitar and sax parts, especially the bits between verses.

  • I used to hear this song all the time on my radio station. I could totally relate to

being in a souless city. But like the end--I got out and know am in a souless little town of 5,000. About the song--I love this song because of not only the words, but

that saxophone is brillant!!! I loved the saxophone in this song and also the guitar. But it was the saxophone that really drew me into the song. One of the greatest songs of all time!!!
