Religion is mythology taken too seriously. I shall continue to resist anyone who tells me what God wants, what God thinks, and what I must do to avoid the wrath of God's followers.
I got no problem with people believing anything they want (God,unicorns, ghosts, extraterrestrials) but they better not try to compel me (or anyone else) to believe it too.
Great video, even though I'm Christian I totally agree on this subject. I believe in what I do and most people like you said, use the certain pieces when helpful to them in THEIR situations
Discipleoftheword, like a good "christian", does the exact same thing he accuses everyone else of. It's one of the oldest stories in the book. Give me a break....
I'm glad you understand. People read their religious stories literally and completely miss the stories and lessons that they were meant to teach people about life.
Jordan Peterson has a series of videos that explain this "Maps of Meaning".
DiscipleoftheWord " I take the Bible in its ordinary sense."
example: Matthew's genealogy for Jesus.
If you check his list against the OT you will see he left out names so that he could come up with 3 groups of 14.
The reason for that is because the numbers 3 and 14 have specific meanings. 3 symbolizes divine and 14 was a number that symbolized King David. so 3 groups of 14 had a specific meaning that gets lost if you read it in the "ordinary sense"
I take the Bible in its ordinary sense. When a writer communicates facts in a straightforward way, I read them as such. When I encounter apparent figures of speech, I take them that way, too. Figurative speech—in prose at least—always communicates literal truth in a more accurate and powerful way than ordinary language would be able to.
Figurative speech is always meant to make clear, not obscure. So, even if you dont take a phrase literally, some literal point is still being made. In that case, its always fair to ask what specifically the writer is trying to communicate with his colorful language.
This is the same way we read just about everything.
Theres no reason the Bible should be any different. Fact is, even non-Christians like you, read the Bible that way, no one doubts we should take statements like Love thy neighbor or Give to the poor literally.
You only balk when you come across a controversial claim, something in the Bible that conflicts with your own theological or moral fancy.
Your stuck on this Genealogy as your only negation of my argument.
Because Matthew uses Numeric patterns or left out some descendants doesn't refute the Genealogy itself.
Because Matthew does not explicitly label this as symbolic does not prove anything.
Arguing from silence is illogical.
The Bible uses symbolism or hyperbole many times without directly labeling it so. Jesus referred to people as sheep, do you need to be told he is using a metaphor? or do you consider yourself as such.
I will insist that there is no good reason to treat these events as metaphors. They might have happened, and a reasonable argument can be made that they did. Your liberal insistence that they did not happen and must be turned into metaphors is only because you believe that they could not have happened. Your faith is a dogmatic assertion whose truth is not nearly so obvious as you thinks it is.
oh really? I guess you never read St. Augustine, The Literal Meaning of Genesis
"It is thus offensive and disgraceful for an unbeliever to hear a Christian talk nonsense about such things, claiming that what he is saying is based in Scripture. We should do all that we can to avoid such an embarrassing situation, lest the unbeliever see only ignorance in the Christian and laugh to scorn. "
are vain who do not have the knowledge of God, or have not been able, from the
good things that are seen, to find him who is good. But I was no longer fettered in that vanity. I had surmounted it, and from the united testimony of thy whole
creation had found thee, our Creator, and thy Word--God with thee, and together
with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God--by whom thou hast created all things.
Augustine believed that all of creation happened at once, not over the literal six days.
"These seven days of our time, although like the same days of creation in name and in numbering, follow one another in succession and mark off the division of time, but those first six days occurred in a form unfamiliar to us as intrinsic principles within things created"
He also believed Adam and Eve were created as mortal beings and not as the result of sin.
"If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters—yes, even his own life—he cannot be my disciple." (Luke 14:26)
How is it that you are against any literal interpretation of the Bible, but you yourself turn and interpret it literally, and ignore the symbolism and hyperbolics? Any first year theology student could counteract your claims. And then you go further and quote parables out of context using eisegesis to twist scripture to match your depraved insights. You claim to be a student of religion, but you sir are nothing but a charlatan peddling snake oils.
Your right I am stating that the Bible is historic.
And you have obviously given the study of archeology, anthropology, and history of the Bible the same consideration you would use to order off the value menu at a fast food restaurant. Youre a joke, and a bad one. Your entire theology is gained from the Skeptics Annotated Bible. Youre a fraud. You arrive at sums without equations. You didn't do the work; you simply accepted the sum as the answer with no way to verify its authenticity.
"God is a metaphor for that which trancends all levels of intellectual thought. It's as simple as that."
-- Joseph Campbell
Religious nutheads fail in understanding the symbols of the mythology in their scriptures. So they worship a being, not realizing what the mythology really is about.
I recommend to all people to read "The Power of Myth" from Joseph Campbell.
we have an archetype for the loss of faith and it is the death of a loved one. we lose the comfort of childhood to the old age of our all powerfull carers and ultimatly they too. the fear of loss of protection is the the archetype for adherense to faith beyond reason. when the beleiver clings to irational faith they are clinging to the shroud of there dead loved ones. humanity must grow up and we need powerfull knew independent sensitive archetypes.
John 8:44 You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
I am not free of the archetypes that become/became religions/mythology. I did not state that in any way.
I happen to know them for what they are and accept/reject them as such.
We are pattern seeking animals... what we do with what our mind forms from these imposed images is up to us. That is the fundamental difference. Skeptics question their minds, emotions, actions and do not feel that any are infallible in any way.
I'm glad to hear you are a skeptic - so am I. I have found however, that few atheists are skeptics. The majority are the new true believers, and they are as sure of their being right as are many religious fundamentalists. Both of these types of fanatics make me scared!!
This video was exceptional among YouTube religion debates for its recognition of religion as Metaphor.
The religion defenders rarely can see that.
And too often the religion opponents also miss that.
People complaining about how idiotic the bible is are right, in a literal sense, but do need to see that most of it was intended as metaphor.
For instance people claiming that Jews endorse infanticide based on the story of Abraham and Isaac. Far from the truth. It was a mythological metaphor.
By your own reasoning, if their exist good, then its creator must be good.
Either you agree that the heart of man is evil or you argue that man is good.
Which is it?
If you cannot prove that something does not exist then you must leave open that possibility.Your claim that there are no gods is self defeating by your logic and suffers under the law of non-contradiction; a thing cannot be true and false at the same time.
If it is objective then your statement is self-defeating, since it cannot be both.
If your reasoning is based on personal feelings, opinions, or beliefs then it is internally objective & is again self-defeated. And from what point do you reason from? cultural, psychological, situational, traditional, experience, etc? How do you arrive at the reasoning that good and evil (or any moral absolute) can be judged as merely subjective with no objectivity?
I totally agree. I enjoy mythology - it can be interesting and informative. To believe it literally, though, with unfailing certainty, with FAITH, is unthinkable.
And yes, the transition of Christianity from the marginalized to the oppressive, turning the previous order on its head, is ironic... probrably unavoidable though.
Take a look guys, this is the mentality of the followers of christ... "love they neighbor" my ass. "But as for those my enemies, who would not have me reign over them, bring them hither and kill them before me"
"If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters—yes, even his own life—he cannot be my disciple." (Luke 14:26)
rkzenrage - yeah this subject is hard to sum up and talk about in just a few minutes. Very true... I've come to the same conclusion that all religions are one.
Quick example of how I view: Take Apollo. The Sun God. I don't believe that the Greeks/Romans looked as Apollo as a real deity. My belief is they were talking about the SUN but in metaphoric terms that the people of the day could understand...
Yes, the lessons are good - but the core of all Religions are all the same!
To add to Apollo the SUN 'God'.... I've done research to suggest [I take as fact] that Jesus is the same SUN or SON. But would take a heck of a lot of posting to explain this...
I don't have a webcam or video cam to make videos right now... so I'm stuck with typing LOL. Just know you have another supporter!
Consider this, either Jesus is the messiah or he isn't.
If he isn't the the messiah then the Christians are wrong and the Jews are right. If he is the Messiah then the Jews are wrong and the Christians are right. So somebody is wrong and somebody is right, but they both can't basically be the same, can they?
Can you see the logical flaw in your line of reasoning?
@DiscipleoftheWord Columbus proved the jewish old testiment and jesus were both wrong, both allude to the flood story as history. If the flood happened as written, columbus would have discovered a continent VOID of animal life. The americas have not been connected to europe by a land bridge in over 250 million years. Ditto the Adam stories. To embrace religion you must reject reality. And BTW, this is not a false dichotomy like yours, because a creator/god either exists, or he doesnt. He doesnt.
@DiscipleoftheWord Specualtion and theory? No, directly observable knowledge of the reality of the world in which we live. That fact that you personally do not understand the science of geology, plate techtonics, land formation, distribution of species throughout the world, does NOT mean no one else understands them. You dont want to know the truth, because you cling to the mythology of ancient goat famers in preference to the necessity of dealing with the reality of your existance.
@DiscipleoftheWord I have neither the time or the inclination to go through every one of the thousands of relgions and mythologies humans have invented over the last several thousand years, and explain why each one is wrong. If you claim a creator/god is real, the burden of proof is on YOU to provide indisputable evidence of your claims, other wise your claims hold no more value than the stories of santa and the tooth fairy. Jesus was wrong about the flood, therefor he was NOT god.
I neither have the time, nor the inclination, to go through every scientific theory presented over the last 100 years, and explain why each is wrong.
Just because you cannot understand that God exist does not mean that there are people who do not.
You dont want to know the truth, because you cling to the mythology of ancient alchemist in preference to the necessity of dealing with the reality of your existence.
Now explain to what is wrong with these assertions.
The fail point in your reasoning: scientists dont give a kwrap what you believe. What matters is what you understand, because understanding leads to application: technology, medicine, predictable usage that improves the quality of human life. Believing in god, or not, in your mind is magical thinking, and it changes nothing. There is no evidence that any god has ever existed, but the result of technology is at your fingertips, you are using it right now. You reject reality to embrace religionl
Thank you for illustrating so well that people caught up in their religious beliefs really have no grasp on reality. Religon is false, the stories are not true. The people who wrote them knew they are not true, so the only way people can embrace the religion is to reject the things that ARE true, to reject reality, so they can allow their minds to think the fantasy is real. You have this down perfectly. Your posts show everyone who reads them that christians are dumber than a sack of hammers.
I'm more that a little puzzled by your dogma here...you can't possibly be convinced that there are "no" scientist that are theist? cause that would completely irrational.
So it can't be scientist specifically that you are speaking of.
That would be illogical and your assertions would be immediately be refuted.
Religion and Mythology are the icons to be clicked and unpacked like chunks of spirit. There is no god or there is a god the question is irelavent; To be or not to be, that is the question. The answer is to be. Murder and suicide are such karmic flows that eat our humanity and the world. Religion, mythology spirituality are pumping stations for love (the good news)vs fear (the letter of the law)Peaceout!
I agree, religion is bullshit, but ya know, who cares what you have to say, if I believed in the shit, Id believe it, and your video wouldn't change that. Same as Christian videos wouldn't make me become a Christian etc.
I wish you ppl would STOP with these fuckin videos. Im bored of religon already. fuck me man. Who gives a fuck. either you believe that shit or you dont. a video wont changes someones mind, get on with your life will you please.
Good post. I think its unfortunate that extremist religious fundies don't understand the value in metaphor of their own religious stories. Its also just as sad to see non-believers discount the value, beauty, and depth of mythology as a source of life enhancing "technology".
I agree with everything you said except I feel that the issue is more pressing. From the UK it seems like the US is moving backwards. The prospect of theocracy in the US is extremely concerning and is becoming more real. Like Daniel Dennett I believe that religions are viruses of the mind that make humans act in ways detrimental to their own well-being. Having deprogrammed from the bible based fundamentalist cult I grew up in, I can vouch for the abuse that religion inflicts.
Well the Queen is head of the church, but religion is pretty marginalized here as in most of Europe. Our politicians certainly don't need to profess belief in God to get elected! Unlike the UK, the US was of course founded on separation of church and state and it's a crime against the founding fathers to revise history the way the religious right try to do.
I agree with you, what the religious right are doing is against separation, the founders and the constitution... those are the differences between the US and UK.
Sure some will fight them, but the fact that they exist is a fundamental difference.
There's this great book written by Lee Strobel called the Case for Christ. He was an atheist when he set out writing this book to disprove Christianity, and became a Christian. He went on to write the Case for Faith. Most people you talk to probably don't read the bible, so this book might give you a good look at Christianity. Christianity is really different from any other religion.
If any of your required evidence was to appear to you publicly, would you instantly drop prostrate and worship God? Answer yes, and you are dishonest about your belief. If you hold firm to the certainty that there is no God, then there could never be acceptable evidence for you, not now, not ever. If there was evidence that would be acceptable to you, then you are merely waiting for God, who you know to exist, to prove himself to you personally.
Wow, not believing in god is a myth. Your level of ignorance has reached new heights. I will be quoting you for a long long long long time. jesusists are an evil group of bastards out to kill and destroy and you hate atheists, amazing!
Atheism is not believing in god which includes agnostics. It's no more of a myth than if it meant not believing bigfoot or the lockness monster. Its not a supernatural, irrational, nor a false belief, it's the lack of belief. Morality is subjective, you need morals with religion as you need a college degree with alcoholism. Religion corrupts morality if anything, it has promoted killing, discrimination, & dehumanization straight from its holy books.
Atheists make up their own morals with realistic perceptions of the world as it really is & their experiences of how things really are. Gods are not within our lives. A secular world is a sane world. Atheism is not of hate, it is from the lack of belief. We are not tied down to any doctrine, it's simply lack of belief. Atheism is simply the lack of belief in gods, don't make it sound so complex. We have no holy books or universal rules/morals, it isn't an organized belief system.
Religion is a myth perpetuated by a small minority of corrupt individuals who claim to have seen god, and use that as a basis to keep illiterate, uneducated hillbillys scared of the dark and afraid of their own genitals. Most atheists don't hate god, as you can't hate a non-existant entity. I reserve my hatred for tools like you who watch atheist videos then try to convert people who will die without muttering a single "please god". So fuck off and watch a VFX video. He's more your style.Douche.
I have no delusions buddy. You do. I live in reality and you live a fairy tale meant for idiots and peasants. Enjoy keeping your head in the sand. Keep believing your idiocy and please, shut the fuck up, because we don't want to listen to it.
Its all stereotypical anti-theistic cognitive bias based on bare-knuckle aggression made up of ad-hominem attacks which lack any coherent line of reasoning.
Your like a drunk in bar looking for a fight.
And since God is out of reach you attack whatever is close enough.
The first sign a man has no logical argument in him is when he takes a swing at you.
another sign of a man that has no logical argument is when he pretends to have one, religion in itself is illogical you cannot tell me to believe in an entity/phenomenon without sufficient proof or evidence, Plus can you honestly say to me that you have obeyed everything that god had said? that you have not ever been jealous , prideful, angry or even horny?? if not then please spare me the hypocritical bullcrap...
If Santa came down your chimney on Xmas eve would you instantly fetch him some milk and cookies? Answer yes and you are instantly dishonest about your belief. If you hold firm to the certainty there is no Santa, then there could never be acceptable evidence for you.
I can actually prove god does not exist, but you cannot prove anything about Santa, because Santa is not in the bible - therefore you know nothing about Santa.
Original, why is that important when you have never had an original thought in your life? Your every word relies on a 1500 year old fairy tale for children.
PS I have no need to speak when I type so nothing is coming out of my mouth when I write these comments, but just keep writing retarded stuff because I know you cannot help it. And don't be afraid to ignore the stupidity I point out. "Atheism is a myth" lol
I wish I could compose a response to your last comment but there really is no intelligent answer for such a ridiculously angry string of delusive statements.
There's no clear form of logic here to follow that you might expect from a reasonable person.
But I suppose that's the way you prefer it.
The first sign a man has run out of argument is when he takes a swing at you.
I responded to your statement in kind. I think that you are pretty stupid and I do not expect you to offer an argument, evidence, or logical statements so why would I waste my time?
hi i just had to join in but ime not going to indulge in any personal attack on you and i do not wish to have a prolonged dialogue with you for the following reason. you have questioned the reason and or logic of all coments directed at you as a first responce but your own initial coment apears to quote scripture and at best that is conjecture not rational in any objective sense. it could be your last coment i supose but either way i asume your using your native tomgue.
I am a 47 yr old man and when I was watching the Movie 2001, back when I was a 9 yr old boy, I thought that religion would be gone by then . I was raised by Atheist, and I saw what religion did to people from standing on the out side looking in as a boy.
So the archetypes come from the original being. Where did the thoughts originate? There is an internal[spiritual] world which this world is the object of, and all of the contradiction and confusion in the world of man's thought came about when our ancestors lost their heart and mind connection with the creator.
the natural world has no mind of its own. The internal nature of things are given by the one whose energy they are made of. Does matter have intrinsic intellect? Can matter by itself divide into all the multitude of life forms and beautiful variations without direction and purpose that is not logical.
Wow, I stumbled on your "spanking" video and I couldn't agree more. I had to poke around and watch all your videos. I really enjoyed them all. I counsel troubled youth and I'm pro spirituality and anti religion. Thank you for sharing your views on these subjects, they've unearthed feelings that have always been there.
You must examine how religion evolved from true visionary recitation of mystic dreams and departures. When the shaman's cave was too full of listeners he decided he no longer had time to hunt and asked them to bring a gift of food. That is where religion began. That is what also created imposters.
one more comment, 11 Corinthians Chpt.ll vs.13.For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. 14.And no MARVEL:for SATAN himself is transformed into an "Angel Of Light"15.Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; COOL eh? see all these priests (pediofiles),Fakin' us out. These are the Last days "rapture.time" Revelation talks about Endtime corruption of MANY Churches.
cont.- these dragons of old, breathed FIRE.. myth? fact!! Those greek gods were real, Satan was in them, competeing with God (YHWH )the one true creator He is not Allah, or Buddah but God of the BIBLE. he talks about his creation. do these others talk about they're creation? that they created? BIBLE "Have no other gods before me" - myth gods had powers. their religions were sexually based & were popular, Like today, anything goes-concluding -Islam is involved -veri-chip666 and the RAPTURE
Contin..DRAGONS=7.And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,8.And prevailed not;neither was their place found any more in heaven. 9. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, ehichdeceiveth the whole world:he was cat out INTO the EARTH,and his angels(demons) were cast out with him. cool eh???the answers are there. just read G-ds word. it is so cool.
Cont..turn to that area in the Bible. and read the rest, it talks about the MOON and STARS,, it is so Interesting..This is really comforting too..St.Luke Chpt.9 vs. 56. For the Son of Man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them. ST JOHN chapter 3 vs.3-Verily I Say unto thee,Except a Man be Born agein, he cannot see the kindom od God. Now here's one about DRAGONS=Revelation chpt. 12 vs.7,8,9.. cont...
Hi, have you seen the Film "One"? Now that is A Direct step toward the One World Order.. Man is trying to get it together.. But he can't without Divine Help.. Who is Divine.. HE, has a name. YHWH and Y'shua (Jesus his Son. One with YHWH..Mytholgy (Dragons and Serpents are all associated with Satan.BIBLE 1 Corinthians Chpt.15 vs. 40 reads.there are celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another. cont..
I absolutely agree with you. In any story of faith it is difficult to seperate that which is myth from that which is fact. It is time that we start noticing the similarities instead of the differnces.
Oh you are soooooo right my friend! People have gotten so lost in the story that it has now become reality to them. They have closed my minds tight and will not let in the possible truths. I myself am Agnostic, and believe in something, BUT I must stop and open my mind to this Universe and question reality/science. In the end, Shame - Shame - Shame to those who will not hear and question common sense!!!! Rob, I would welcome you as a neighbor to myself anytime .........Thank You -- Refreshing

The literal reading of Matthew has mistakes, if it is taken literally. It was never meant to be literal it was symbolic.

As per my example, Matthew never refers to a figure of speech, so you are left with a straigthforward interpretation.
If you then take a straigthforward interpretation you are left with a contradiction betweeen it and OT scripture and miss the meaning of 3 and 14.

Your stuck on this Genealogy as your only negation of my argument.

Apparently neither have you, this is the most copied and pasted "out of context" tripe the atheist has to offer.
5. They do not know the way which is thy word, by which thou didst create all
the things that are and also the men who measure them, and the senses by which
they perceive what they measure, and the intelligence whereby they discern the
patterns of measure. Thus they know not that thy wisdom is not a matter of
measure.

We could go on forever,
Augustine believed that all of creation happened at once, not over the literal six days.
"These seven days of our time, although like the same days of creation in name and in numbering, follow one another in succession and mark off the division of time, but those first six days occurred in a form unfamiliar to us as intrinsic principles within things created"
He also believed Adam and Eve were created as mortal beings and not as the result of sin.
justintempler 3 years ago
Augustine believed that when there was a discrepency between scripture and reality that it was our interpretation of scripture that was in error.
I don't try and make reality fit the bible, but the bible to fit reality.
so things like snakes talking are metaphors

So, as science discovers more and more the metaphors grow?
Come on.
rkzenrage 3 years ago
rkzenrage "So, as science discovers more and more the metaphors grow?
Come on."
No, the Christians and Jews mistook the myths containing metaphor as factual history when they were not.
200 years ago most Christians probably would have thought Creation and Adam and Eve was a literal event that actually happened.
And not everything is metaphor sometimes myths are just created to explain the unexplainable instead of just admitting "we don't know".
justintempler 3 years ago
St. Augustine was a great man and well educated philosopher and theologian.
He was very important to western Christianity.
But he was a man just as you; he thought like a man and was bridled with the same skepticisms and cognitive biases as all finite men.
What he believed is not important to me.
Jesus Christ is my Lord and my God, and what he said and continues to say IS important to me.
If you care to discuss the teachings of the Lord I welcome you.

Sure, let's start with:
"Think not that I come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword."
Matthew 10:34 "But as for those my enemies, who would not have me reign over them, bring them hither and kill them before me"
(Luke 19:27)
"If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters—yes, even his own life—he cannot be my disciple." (Luke 14:26)
Yeah... he was a peach (if he even existed)

DiscipleoftheWord 3 years ago
I'm not peddling anything... I am not the one saying the bible is a historical book. The only thing I am doing is pointing out that it is a joke.
rkzenrage 3 years ago

I recommend to all people to read "The Power of Myth" from Joseph Campbell.
lavelucaxupygivo 3 years ago
~"God is a metaphor for that which transcends all levels of intellectual thought. It's as simple as that."
Hes got it backwards.
Metaphors are how man illustrates that thing which transcends all levels of his intellectual thought.
That thing is God.
Why do you insist on mythologizing what you cannot understand? How does that separate you from the myth believers? How do you support your claims?
The truth is you believe that the Bible stories are false; why not just say so plainly?

we have an archetype for the loss of faith and it is the death of a loved one. we lose the comfort of childhood to the old age of our all powerfull carers and ultimatly they too. the fear of loss of protection is the the archetype for adherense to faith beyond reason. when the beleiver clings to irational faith they are clinging to the shroud of there dead loved ones. humanity must grow up and we need powerfull knew independent sensitive archetypes.

What makes you think you are free of these archetypes?
What about the myth of the hero conquering mythology and the lies of religion - the hero who can face the facts of life head on?
Seems like more of the same to me.
bushfingers 3 years ago
I am not free of the archetypes that become/became religions/mythology. I did not state that in any way.
I happen to know them for what they are and accept/reject them as such.
We are pattern seeking animals... what we do with what our mind forms from these imposed images is up to us. That is the fundamental difference. Skeptics question their minds, emotions, actions and do not feel that any are infallible in any way.
rkzenrage 3 years ago

So what?
What does that prove about God or the teachings of Jesus.
How do your disparaging remarks or the actions of any man prove anything about anything?
Except perhaps that man is inherently stupid and evil.
If the Bible were less honest about the evil of men would you be more comfortable with it?
Do your actions prove or disprove the existence of Gods love?
Should God intervene in your ignorance and control your free will to keep you from doing evil?
Would that satisfy you complaint?
DiscipleoftheWord 3 years ago
If man is evil then so is the god that created them.
You cannot prove that something does not exits, argument from ignorance... a logical fallacy as are all of your arguments.
I have no complaint against a god because there are no gods.
rkzenrage 3 years ago
By your own reasoning, if their exist good, then its creator must be good.
Either you agree that the heart of man is evil or you argue that man is good.
Which is it?
If you cannot prove that something does not exist then you must leave open that possibility.Your claim that there are no gods is self defeating by your logic and suffers under the law of non-contradiction; a thing cannot be true and false at the same time.
DiscipleoftheWord 3 years ago
My reasoning is that there is no god or gods, that good and evil are subjective.
By your reasoning if there is evil god must be that as well.
Ok, I'll leave open the possibility exactly to the degree that god is probable.
rkzenrage 3 years ago
Is your reasoning objective or subjective?
If it is objective then your statement is self-defeating, since it cannot be both.
If your reasoning is based on personal feelings, opinions, or beliefs then it is internally objective & is again self-defeated. And from what point do you reason from? cultural, psychological, situational, traditional, experience, etc? How do you arrive at the reasoning that good and evil (or any moral absolute) can be judged as merely subjective with no objectivity?
DiscipleoftheWord 3 years ago
I totally agree. I enjoy mythology - it can be interesting and informative. To believe it literally, though, with unfailing certainty, with FAITH, is unthinkable.
And yes, the transition of Christianity from the marginalized to the oppressive, turning the previous order on its head, is ironic... probrably unavoidable though.

rkzenrage - yeah this subject is hard to sum up and talk about in just a few minutes.
PeppermintTwisted 4 years ago
To add to Apollo the SUN 'God'.... I've done research to suggest [I take as fact] that Jesus is the same SUN or SON. But would take a heck of a lot of posting to explain this...
I don't have a webcam or video cam to make videos right now... so I'm stuck with typing LOL. Just know you have another supporter!

rkzenrage 4 years ago
"Religions are all the same!"
DiscipleoftheWord 2 years ago
@DiscipleoftheWord False dicotamy. The jews and the christians are BOTH wrong.
MrHobiecat 2 years ago
@MrHobiecat
Are you right?
Haven't you just fallen into your own false dichotomy?
You assert that everyone but you is wrong, creating an "either/or" a "black or white" argument.
Lets leave the circular fallacy rodeo.
If you have a valid argument then makes it clear.
Your statement is just an assertion; I can just as easily assert the opposite.
Why are they both wrong?
What are they wrong about?
And how do you know this?
DiscipleoftheWord 2 years ago
@DiscipleoftheWord Columbus proved the jewish old testiment and jesus were both wrong, both allude to the flood story as history. If the flood happened as written, columbus would have discovered a continent VOID of animal life. The americas have not been connected to europe by a land bridge in over 250 million years. Ditto the Adam stories. To embrace religion you must reject reality. And BTW, this is not a false dichotomy like yours, because a creator/god either exists, or he doesnt. He doesnt.
MrHobiecat 2 years ago
@MrHobiecat
*(sigh)....."have not been connected to europe by a land bridge in over 250 million years" = specualtion and theory.
Were you there, how do you know?
You conveniently dodged my original questions.
Your claims are just assertions.
I'm asking you to explain logically why all religions are the same and how that makes them all wrong.
Not all religions accept the flood account, are they right about the existence of God?
DiscipleoftheWord 2 years ago
@DiscipleoftheWord Specualtion and theory? No, directly observable knowledge of the reality of the world in which we live. That fact that you personally do not understand the science of geology, plate techtonics, land formation, distribution of species throughout the world, does NOT mean no one else understands them. You dont want to know the truth, because you cling to the mythology of ancient goat famers in preference to the necessity of dealing with the reality of your existance.
MrHobiecat 2 years ago
@DiscipleoftheWord I have neither the time or the inclination to go through every one of the thousands of relgions and mythologies humans have invented over the last several thousand years, and explain why each one is wrong. If you claim a creator/god is real, the burden of proof is on YOU to provide indisputable evidence of your claims, other wise your claims hold no more value than the stories of santa and the tooth fairy. Jesus was wrong about the flood, therefor he was NOT god.
MrHobiecat 2 years ago
@MrHobiecat
DiscipleoftheWord 2 years ago
The fail point in your reasoning: scientists dont give a kwrap what you believe. What matters is what you understand, because understanding leads to application: technology, medicine, predictable usage that improves the quality of human life. Believing in god, or not, in your mind is magical thinking, and it changes nothing. There is no evidence that any god has ever existed, but the result of technology is at your fingertips, you are using it right now. You reject reality to embrace religionl
MrHobiecat 2 years ago
Thank you for illustrating so well that people caught up in their religious beliefs really have no grasp on reality. Religon is false, the stories are not true. The people who wrote them knew they are not true, so the only way people can embrace the religion is to reject the things that ARE true, to reject reality, so they can allow their minds to think the fantasy is real. You have this down perfectly. Your posts show everyone who reads them that christians are dumber than a sack of hammers.
MrHobiecat 2 years ago
Wow ..that didnt take long.
Good to see you have your rationalist hat on.
I'm more that a little puzzled by your dogma here...you can't possibly be convinced that there are "no" scientist that are theist? cause that would completely irrational.
So it can't be scientist specifically that you are speaking of.
That would be illogical and your assertions would be immediately be refuted.
DiscipleoftheWord 2 years ago
So..then it must be science itself that you are speaking of in the broadest terms...right?
If this is the case lets begin there
I need your definition of science before we can proceed..Im just a bag of hammers so youll have to guide me through this..

Religion and Mythology are the icons to be clicked and unpacked like chunks of spirit. There is no god or there is a god the question is irelavent; To be or not to be, that is the question. Having deprogrammed from the bible based fundamentalist cult I grew up in, I can vouch for the abuse that religion inflicts.
pos777 4 years ago
What? Your PM is a head of your church and your schools force prayer and Anglican teachings on the students and WE are a theocracy? LOL.
I am so sorry you had to deal with that growing up.
rkzenrage 4 years ago
Well the Queen is head of the church, but religion is pretty marginalized here as in most of Europe. Our politicians certainly don't need to profess belief in God to get elected! Unlike the UK, the US was of course founded on separation of church and state and it's a crime against the founding fathers to revise history the way the religious right try to do.
pos777 4 years ago
"a head" confused you somehow?
The PM appoints bishops.

Atheism is a myth perpetuated by a small minority of morally corrupt individuals who
claim it is based on scientific proof and real world views.
They say it is self realized knowledge but that's not true either, it's a hatred that is spewed as a doctrine of secular truth.
Anti-theism on the other hand, does exist and is the real underlying process behind the so called "free thinkers".
They hate God and anyone or anything that is associated with him.
The previous post proves my point.
DiscipleoftheWord 3 years ago
Wow, not believing in god is a myth. Your level of ignorance has reached new heights. I will be quoting you for a long long long long time. jesusists are an evil group of bastards out to kill and destroy and you hate atheists, amazing!
wwickeddogg 3 years ago
Atheism is not believing in god which includes agnostics. It's no more of a myth than if it meant not believing bigfoot or the lockness monster. Its not a supernatural, irrational, nor a false belief, it's the lack of belief. Morality is subjective, you need morals with religion as you need a college degree with alcoholism. Religion corrupts morality if anything, it has promoted killing, discrimination, & dehumanization straight from its holy books.
kiwisunshine5233 3 years ago
Atheists make up their own morals with realistic perceptions of the world as it really is & their experiences of how things really are. Gods are not within our lives. A secular world is a sane world. Atheism is not of hate, it is from the lack of belief. We are not tied down to any doctrine, it's simply lack of belief. Atheism is simply the lack of belief in gods, don't make it sound so complex. We have no holy books or universal rules/morals, it isn't an organized belief system.
kiwisunshine5233 3 years ago
Religion is a myth perpetuated by a small minority of corrupt individuals who claim to have seen god, and use that as a basis to keep illiterate, uneducated hillbillys scared of the dark and afraid of their own genitals. I reserve my hatred for tools like you who watch atheist videos then try to convert people who will die without muttering a single "please god". So fuck off and watch a VFX video. I can actually prove god does not exist, but you cannot prove anything about Santa, because Santa is not in the bible - therefore you know nothing about Santa.

Children grow out of the belief in Santa at around the age of 5.
To use such a ridiculously immature illustration you need to explain why so many adults come to know God in their later life.
And why some professing atheist will convert to Theism as full grown adults and even in old age.
How many adults do you know who come to believe and have a personal relationship with Santa in their 40s and 50s?

So the archetypes come from the original being. Where did the thoughts originate? There is an internal[spiritual] world which this world is the object of, and all of the contradiction and confusion in the world of man's thought came about when our ancestors lost their heart and mind connection with the creator.

You must examine how religion evolved from true visionary recitation of mystic dreams and departures. When the shaman's cave was too full of listeners he decided he no longer had time to hunt and asked them to bring a gift of food. That is where religion began. That is what also created imposters.
