the whole Idea about controlling Dream , we can find in Monkey King Journey To The West Sun wukong 1996, there is a chapter when Monkey King encounter an evil Insect that can control other people's dream
and in Paprika we can see Paprika become Sun Wukong, The Pig Zhu Bajie as the Fat Man who always eat and think for himself, Sha Wujing as the cop, and The monk Xuánzàng as the old bald man, and we can see the similarity of insect (butterfly) as the evil symbol, in wukong it's Grasshopper
@mmecharlotte I definitely just thought that.. All the sudden, Inception isn't that awesome and unique.. Paprika did it first D: You have to wonder though, is we've seen it (Paprika), have the producers and director for Inception seen it also? :/
In some USA newspaper a critic wrote "This movie is the proof that japanese animators has reached the moon while his occidental partners are stuck in the sandbox".
The japanese dubz seem more appropriate given the context, perspective, story, and dialogue of the film. English dubz sort of take away the feel of watching that straight out of japan unique anime.
@skoolboy77 I would be very tempted to agree with you, apart from one anime - I would love too see Layton and the Eternal Diva with English voice actors, specifically the ones who worked on the games. I know that it is going to be dubbed on it's release, but I'm so used to seeing anime botched because of their AMERICAN voice acting. As such, it's rare to hear a character speak in their actual mother tongue without subs, as is why I'm all for an English Layton cast.
well... i think this anime was dubbed great except for few lipsync problems. But voiceovers they chose really matched the personalities of characters.well, at least in my oppinion
i agree, it is very rare that a English dub equals the original Japanese, but a dub will never surpass sub. However if a film is greatly funded like Studio Ghibli, being paired with Disney, they can afford to hire more competent and experienced voice actors, making them less cheesy.
I have to say that I don't think the dubbed version is as great as the original (of course, it's basically like that with ANY anime). Especially Chiba, I just don't think the English people caught the emotion the original voices held :/
The dream parade? It always sounded to me like they're saying "Yahweh" over and over, with random bits of gibberish mixed in... I dunno, it's a dream parade... It might just be collected dream language nonsense...
The movie threw me for a trip at first and I didn't know if I'd like it. I only watched it for Susumu's music anyways. But... once I saw this part. I fell in love.
i watched paprika. the only time's i watched it they were subbed. where did you get the english one or was is faned made because if it was they did an awsome job. thx for posting^.^
@sora28387 id watched subbed and dubbed and still find subbed better because the voice acting in japaneese really does convay the emotional meaning much better

@loveloveoppah Christopher Nolan, the director, cites Paprika as an influence.

@SaveMeKaizer Gotta go look that up. M'sure it got Paprika some good publicity and people looked the title up. thanks ^^

@loveloveoppah The Director of Inception actually said that Paprika was an influence for the movie.
AwakentheMonster 11 months ago
@AwakentheMonster that's what I get for redbox renting XD That's pretty cool, though--that Paprika has influenced a great American movie.

Not to mention that alot of the time, English voiceovers are really cheesy. :P
PsychofanGal 2 years ago 25
That's more than true, but I thought this movie did a pretty good job dubbing into English
PhilWithCoffee 2 years ago 6

ok mute this vid and stop at 21 and start the parade with the band music from the pink elephants

not as good,, disney was an amazing animator but i believe many japanese animators surpass him

This dub is the most beautiful sound to the ears compared to the dub of Millenium Actress (another Kon film)
Think this ones bad? You ain't seen nothing until that one. And its only one single voice that makes it bad.

The dub of this is actually pretty god. Paprika's voice is a bit too high-pitched, but it kind of suits her in a way.
One of my favorite scenes of the movie for sure <3
