@fanadfilms We had just heard. Thanks for putting it on our radar too. Sucks - David was a great guy and a doer. He'll be missed but his ideas will live on.
@Antiks72 Well, I was a Democrat (or as I call them, Dumbocraps) as a Child. I voted for Carter when I was 18 (what a stupid mistake that was, only pales in comparison to the stupidity of voting for Clinton (1 or 2) or Obama). I wandered around politically for a few years until I joined the LP in the 80's. So, I've been a MEMBER of the Party since you were a suckling.
I think I'm in a better position to assess that. Also, I AM for business. That's where the jobs are. Go beg on the streets.
@Antiks72 Have you ever actually read Ayn Rand or Murray Rothbard? You are woefully ignorant of the facts. The Libertarian Party vehemently opposes the collusion between government and private enterprise which is responsible for creating the "Corporate State".
Personally, I believe the corporate business model is flawed due to the huge separation of ownership and management, and can only exist with government favoritism and intervention. Libertarians are pro-entrepreneur.
@mikemat3307 Ayn Rand and Murray Rothbard are an abomination. I made it half way through Atlas before putting it down. The book a horrible work of fiction. Oh, and I skipped ahead and read the wooden John Galt's robotic speech. What a joke. Try reading Kevin Carson instead.
@Antiks72 I can understand your enmity toward Rand, but why Rothbard? He was a strong critic of corporatism and state capitalism. Carson himself has definitely been influenced by Rothbard's work: try reading the posts on his blog about "the left-Rothbardians".
@Antiks72 Fair enough. I don't mean to defend everything Rothbard wrote (especially not later in his life), but some of it may appeal to you.
He's often thought of as a right-winger, and in the anarchist world, I guess he is. But it's strange to hear a guy who argued for worker takeovers of state-owned corporations, and wrote an ethics book endorsing compensation to the heirs of victims of historical crimes like slavery and land theft, called "right-wing". Such clumsy terms people use…
@Antiks72 Perhaps Rand, but definitely not Rothbard. Personally, I prefer Lysander Spooner and Samuel Edward Konkin III. True anarcho-capitalism is not a pro-corporatist philosophy. Perhaps there are those in the LP who have been influenced by the Kochtopus, but certainly not all, and it is an unfair assessment, and illogical to conclude that all LP members are pro-corporatist.
Actually, I don't think it hypocritical at all. Protecting our boarders is a matter of national sovereignty, which the Constitution calls for. Libertarians are and should be all about promoting the views of the Constitution. Small government doesn't necessarily mean "no government". We need to have some things that are left to the Federal Government such as preserving our boarders and our national sovereignty together with the several states.
But is it really hypocrisy when Libertarians call for tighter border controls when 1000's pour into places like the UK with the sole intention of imposing their theocracy on UK residents, often taking advantage of our incredibly generous social housing, welfare and healthcare benefits in the process?
Libertarians would get rid of "our incredibly generous social housing, welfare and healthcare benefits" so as not to attract the wrong sort of people to the country. You'd have to work hard or go back to Russia!
Yeah...I voted for Bob Barr, after Ron Paul got kicked out of the Republican race.
I don't think the rhetoric of either Barr or Paul reflects what I'd like to see in a Libertarian society, but they were both closer to what I'd like, than the two major party primary candidates.

Libertarians = corporatist tyranny.

@Antiks72 That's idiotic. Wait, that would make you an idiot.

@fanadfilms Really? The vulgar libertarian party is well known for the pro corporatist stance. That would make you uninformed.

I think it's important to realize we all have something in common, especially in this day and age of TSA strip searches in the rising police state.
