Since yesterday my Road Bike's derailleur has becomes 'free' i.e. when I padel it forward there is no force and the chain just rotates on it without any driving force. I hope I am describing it correctly and that it is fairly common problem. How do I fix it? Need Some help here!!!

This is a good video, but would be more helpfull if you informed of where the barrel tension should be before you start (screwed all the way in, half way, what?)

Thank you, I bought a new bike pre-assembled, but I guess they did not adjust anything. I was adjusting the stop screws but never though of the tension of the cable. As soon as I tightened up the cable, all my problems I was having, thinking the bike was a lemon, went away. Thanks again

The high gear is okay, but the L screw does not seem to do a thing and I am not getting to the lowest gear only to gear 8 out of 9.

Rust on the cables aren't that bad. I had a 1980s Japanese Miyata road bike with everything stock and the cables were rusty. Down tube shifters shifted perfectly. Never had any problems on the bike. Too bad i sold it =(
