It more than sucked it was dissrespectfull to one of the worlds greatst entertainers. none of the people on that stage that awards show could have held a candle to Dean Martin and thats what they do for him? Insulting !!!
I remember when this was on. The 2009 Grammy Awards should be banned for all times with such a lame tribute for such a Great Man ! Terriable Terriable and Terriable. No justice what so ever.
typical Grammy's .....you have to DIE to receive the LIFETIME AWARD! Guess, Diana Ross or all the Supremes will have to be six feet under to receive theirs.
reason I stop watch this bogus show......lady Ga-ga Kiss my *ss
why would they have queen latfia for ? he should be honored way better than this.. he was the king of cool.. and a lot of the musician's couldnt hold a candle to that man.. rip dino .....
Somewhere,Dino is getting a good "Chuckle", from this so called "Tribute". Do you really think he gave a "Damn"? He was "Way Too Cool" for the "Stuffy,Politically Awarded" Grammy's. He probably would prefer a fifth of single malt "Ballantine's", to that "jaded" Grammy? but thanks for posting it.
he has many awards for television, shows...but never an oscar, that's what they might do for him, give him an oscar for his all career (1938 he began to sing, to 1989 )he stopped stage, because of his health problems, because of cigarettes, not booze, he was not a boozer, only in act like he says even, and his son dino death in 1987
Dean was even great at country music songs and even al jolson songs the man was a genious he brightened up songs that others destroyed , and did not mind looking stupid for a laugh, you cannot say that for many entertainers..best all time entertainer .
I made a point of watching the awards when I heard Dean was on the list. I got so furious at the lack of respect the bunch of no talent twits showed him. As far as I'm concerned they deserved less than they gave Dean. MUCH less. Isn't it almost as if they felt threatened by someone that actually had talent?
This so-called "tribute" to Dean Martin was an absolute disgrace. It was probably produced by somebody who had no clue who Dino was and wouldn't recognizr true talent if it bit him in the ass. Queen Latifah? Follwed by rap guys who couldn't hold Dino's cigarette pack.
Dino was a class act - smooth as silk. Grammys should be ashamed.
typically they give a guy who could wipe the floor with any of these manufactured littled bitched asses 30 seconds and some fookin nobody to introduce him, Dean Martin was true legend just search here on youtube for "dean martin roasts" then you'll see a real legend
I agree that someone else should have introduced Dean like Jerry Lewis..set all their differences aside they really did respect each other...anyone could see that.and yes why do they honor these brilliant stars after they are gone?
There's nothing wrong with Queen Latifah. Altough I DO AGREE someone else should have hosted. Maybe Tony Bennett would have been the best choice. He's a legend that performed with Dean Martin.
Queen Latifa?? I think Tony Bennett would've been a much more appropriate person to host this tribute. Someone who actually performed with Dean Martin.
He definitely deserved better...especially better than the crap that came on after this "tribute"...Lil Wayne, Jay Z, etc...- that's not paying tribute to a legend like Dean. That's why I made the montage at the end - my salute to Dino.
quxiote010 i totally agree with you. and when she said: "Yeah lets give em a little something yall," in her fuckin uncool gangster hood slang to remind the audience that they should applaud i could punch her right in her ugly face.
Fat Queen Latifa is the the best they could find to pay tribute to Dean Martin? She probably never heard one of his records. It just goes to show what a sad state of affairs music is really in today.
What the hell took them so long to recognize this Fantastic Singer/Entertainer!!! He should have been given this award Long long ago!! Guess better late than never?
if you are wanting to see what actually came after that....it totally sucked. Not worthy at all. I wanted to start crying. Punk group to honor Dean???
Dean Martin has a LAA, Frank Zappa has one, Smokey Robinson, John Lennon, and Paul McCartney and a handful of others that I don't know who they are like Arturo Toscanini and Jascha Heifetz - but why hasn't the Beatles have a Lifetime Achievement Award?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Yes, the Beatles AKA FAB FOUR should have gotten a Lifetime Achivement Award If it wasn't for the Beatles, we wouldn't have had "the Bristish Invasion" that followed After the Beatles got big here!! Nor would there have been any of the other groups/duos etc that followed after them!! Long Live THE BEATLES!!!
Dean Martin could SING! Screw the Grammies and anyone else that doesn't appreciate his superb talent(s); they don't matter.
I read an interview with him once in which he said he was always singing as a kid, and it nearly drove his mama nuts, LOL. Anyway, he said that, "The day I found out that people would pay me to sing was the happiest day of my life!" And he gave many, many other people many happy days with his singing. God bless the soul of Dean Martin!
Do you have the rest of the awards show? I missed the live airing of this award and would truly love to see the award. Was Joey Bishop at the awards show? Do you have that on tape? Please show the whole clip!!! Was Deana's acceptance speech aired in part or in its entirety?
The rest of the awards show was not worth watching if you were interested in Dean's award. That tribute was not even 1.5 minutes long. So very disappointing. The award was accepted the evening before the actual grammys. At least Dean's grandson Alex (Dino Jrs son) was intereviewed very briefly. Deana was in the audience with Alex. You just couldnt blink as the camera was on them tho.
Dean Martin was a true entertainer and deserved much better than what the grammys gave him for a tribute. I enjoy all of his music just wish these so called entertainers today would take a lesson from him ! Thanks for posting this video
I totally agree. I couldn't believe that they called this a "tribute" but he did receive a lifetime achievement award and supposedly there was a ceremony before the actual Grammy awards for all of the lifetime awards. Even still, Dean Martin was one of a kind and they could've done something a little more special for him...
@shadybunnz I agree. However, I don't think the "kids" who are in charge actually know what to do, or what the definition of "tribute" really is? I can just hear them speak now..."He's dead, or cares about an old dude? " "That's soooo boring, or that's soooo old school! The uncouthness of the people who pull the strings in Hollywood is getting worse, and worse. So terribly sad.
Dean deserved much more. I couldn't believe it was so short. They should have played a real clip and Deana should go on stage to say a few words and recieve the award. In the other hand, the grammy doesn't deserve Dean Martin, anyone can have a Grammy nowadays, the show was terrible.
I didn´t watch the show.I didn´t know that it would be a "tribute?" for Dean... I totally agree with 1frankfan, it is shameful what they did. For that don´t do nothing! He was great, he deserve much more than this.Thank you shadybunnz for posting this.
Dino was (and remains) truly the coolest and classiest of all entertainers. Handsome, sexy, funny and blessed with a beautiful voice, he's beloved by both women and men of all ages...I never tire of listening to his music or watching his performances. For my fellow Dino lovers out there, I highly recommend that you attend the Dean Martin festival held annually in Steubenville, Ohio.
I give 5 stars for Dean, but ZERO stars for the idiots that put on the Grammys. They give Dean Martin the Lifetime Achievement Award, and the presentation lasts about 20 seconds! If you blinked you missed one of his daughters and a grandson in the audience. If they are going to honor someone, show some clips for crying out loud. Grammys, do it right or don't do it at all! And, considering most of the garbage "sung" during the show, having Dean singing would have added much needed class.
Im borderline obsessed with Dean Martin and when I was watching the Grammys and this came on I got so excited I couldnt stand it. All my friends and family text me asking if I saw. I was all smiles the rest of the night, even now when I see it I get butterflies, lol. I love that man soooo much!!!! My number 1 by far!
Thanks =) I agree - They could have made a bigger deal about it. That's why I made my own tribute in addition to the clip haha. Thanks for the comment!
It was wonderful that they honored Dino. It was just a shame that they didn't play some of his music with him singing. They gave lifetime awards and icon awards but did not go into what made these performers sooo good! What a pity!!
I agree completely - They could've done some sort of a tribute instead of the 30 seconds they gave him and then the terrible performance that followed. Thanks for the comment though =)
He's not as good as the performers today.
He doesn't swear, he can speak English and you can't see the crack in his ass.
