  • Brownell's sells rubber polishing sticks that do a great job!

  • @taskermax01

Thanks to you! I'm glad I could help. And yes, you're right, people over complicate a simple thing to often.

  • whats the rough side and smooth? is it diff grain of the belt?

  • @paintballhead03

Yes. If you look at most leather belts there will be a finished side (smooth) and an unfinished side (underside which is rough).

  • @bindlestitch1 do you strop a convex the same way you convexed it?

  • Can you use a lansky crock stick sharpener on a convex edge?

  • @severzero

You bet, if it has a secondary edge it should be no problem. It won't likely be as effective as this method though. But if that's what works for you then there's no reason not to do it.

  • @bindlestitch1 Its a bark river bravo necker. Im just worried that if i buy it i wont be able to get it sharp lol. I work outside alot so i like the crock sticks cause they are easy and fast when i come home.

  • @severzero

I hear you , man. I say give this method a try first. Stick with it for a few go arounds and then if it doesn't satisfy you then you can always go to the crock sticks.

    God bless,

  • Have you seen youtube user MaddyTheGoose - "All-in-one travel strop knife sharpening system" it's a good idea too for out in the field.

  • @deanznz

I'm not sure if I've seen that one or not. Is that the one that uses the otter box?

Sounds interesting, I'll check it out.

    Thanks,

    Iz

  • @deanznz

Ok, yeah I have seen that. It's pretty cool.

    Thanks, man.

  • I have a BK2 and i want to put a razor edge on it, so do i need to buy a barbers leather or will any leather belt work.

  • @stevburke

No, man just an old leather will work. If you've got an old belt laying around that should do just fine.

  • IZ man thanx so much for your honesty, its not every day i meet a person as honest as yourself, its refreshing. Its ok to make me a friend, talk to you soon .....Steve OH yeah, Fuck Obama, LOL Thanx for you in-put

    You bet, Steve. Anytime.

    Iz

  • Man, you got your shit down, good to meet a master. What about 1095 carbon do you sharpen the same way? Steve

  • @stevburke

    Thanks, man. I appreciate it.

Yeah, I sharpen all steels the same way. Some steels take longer due to hardness or wear resistance though.

    Thanks again,

    Iz

  • Thank you for the video.

Can you tell me what knife is used in the video. Thanks

  • @jasemrad

Thanks for the nice words, man.

  • great job!

  • @stroscar

    Thanks, man.

    Iz

  • where did you get the compound.

  • OB,

I get mine from Jantz knife supply. Green and pink is what I use, I think they call it either buffing compound or jeweler's rouge.

  • @bindlestitch1 I know how to sharpen a knife, but you are good. Thanks for the ideas.

  • Iz I always enjoy your honesty and modesty when it comes to your videos thanks 5/5

  • Thanks , Jim. It's easy to be modest when you have whole piles of stuff you've screwed up to look at like I do. heh.

    I appreciate it.

  • Great vid Iz. Keep em coming! Thanks

  • Thanks, Bp. I appreciate it, man.

  • great demo lz......those that dull their knives using this method is because their angle is not right. leather polishes.

there angle is too much on the grind ,you really have to use the edge of the grind as you did....thanx 5/5

  • BB, That might be it. I'm not sure, I haven't been able to see anyone strop who has this problem.

    thanks for commenting,

    Iz

  • you are welcomed...you done a good job..

i am sure that is the problem because that is what happened to me in the past.

as leather polishes my angle was way over the right angle of the blade as i was stroping. so i was polishing where the knife cuts on the blade instead of the edge of the blade. you done a great job of showing the right angle.

  • I must admit that I loose my edge when I strop slack. I have success when I put the leather on my leg and strop. I like the altoids tin kit. I'll have to make one of those. Thanks

  • Oldschool, Nothing wrong with that, I say go with whatever works for you. It may be that those who lose their edge are pushing a little harder than me. I'm not sure without watching someone do it though. There's other kits you might like, try a search on google for convex sharpening kit. There's some neat stuff out there.

    Thanks again,

    Iz

  • Thanks, everybody.

    I appreciate it.

  • great idea whith the "altoid can kit" 5/5 and thanks for the vid

  • Great vid brother maybe someday I will own a convex knife.

  • Well at least you know how to sharpen one now. Heh.

  • i dont have convex knifes, but i like the video, thanks for taking you time to show 5/5
