Harley Davidson owners are preoccupied with image and sound, so much so that they've forgotten the basic principle that backs up those two aspects; performance. Image and sound are nothing, they are meaningless, without performance,
I got a 99 1200 custom. nice chrome. That Iron is sweet too. sounds good. I just like Carburated over any fuel infection. I paid 5,400.00 for my 99 last year with 6k miles on it. I love Harleys though. USA vehicles only,, screw foreign cars!!!!!
nice bike! you could have got a v twin cruiser just as nice for probably 80% less than you payed for that HARLEY DAVIDSON but hey...... that sticker on the gas tank sure is nice... see they must have skimped on an actual paint job to compensate for the stickers.... 0_o
@Motoxboxsleepin Thanks buddy, i'm glad i payed for the HARLEY DAVIDSON over another vtwin cruiser. Probably the best thing i did when buying a motorcycle! Also, you wont find a sticker in place of any paint job on any Harley Davidson, I'm sure other companies who sell cruisers may use stickers, but they clearly lack the craftsmanship and quality of HARLEY DAVIDSON.
@Motoxboxsleepin Harleys also hold there value better then any other motorcycle maker today, with maybe acception to Indian, but they cost even more then a harley.
i have never read such a stupid comment. i´m sorry, but its true. look at the kawasaki vn900 custom. it cost in germany almost the same as that harley on the vid. if i had the choice if i should buy a new bike for around 8000 euro, i always would choose a harley. i dont own one, but i drive chopper for about 6 years and a harley is the highest and the best you can get.
i pay for the name? well for the apparel i would say yes. even you said that harleys hold there value better then other motorcycle maker today. isnt that a reason to buy an harley? and which shinyness? other motocycles companies try to copy the shinyness from harley. i would say and that is not just my opinion that a harley is every dollar/euro worth.
@massl89 i dont have a bad opinion about them if you like paying 20k on chrome, outdated tenclogy, loud and obnoxiuos, the only reason they are priced so high is the name .
@Motoxboxsleepin ok, thats your opninion. you don´t need to pay 20k. it almost starts at 8k. and other chopper producer aren´t cheaper. if its all about money, i don´t want to know your opinion about a boss hoss. and my opinion ist that a harley needs to be loud and obnoxious. if i dont want to have a bike like this, i could drive a racing machine. and if i want to drive a harley because i like to, i dont stare at the price
@massl89 i see its not all about the money but thats one factor and i ride 2 bikes a 2008 gsxr 750 and a honda goldwing for close to the price of a average harley. now the boss hoss . that is badass
@Motoxboxsleepin well, then you´ve made a great deal. but were they new or used? i think used. i dont know from where you are coming but here in germany you could pay 5000 euro for a used gsxr 750 and you dont get an goldwing for 3000 euro here. all i want to say you is, that you get this harley for about 8000euro, and other motorcyclecompanies have at the same startprice for chopper. Short version: VN 900 and 883 Iron both for about 8000 euro each.
and if i had the choice between a kawasaki and a harley i would take the harley. not because i think that kawasaki or other producers are bad, the reasons why i would take the harley are: i like the look, i always dreamed about owning a harley and for that money i would take her
im looking to buy my frist bike this year and would like to know if this 883 iron would be a good starter bike. im thinking about the yamaha stryker as well...
very nice bike. Are these bikes high in maintenance? Plan on using it as a everyday commute and jeep for when the weather gets bad or need to buy things. any info would be appreciated
I work at a gas station so I see a lot of cars and bikes going by and coming through.
two Harleys pulled up this summer one was a large cruiser the other one a nice two-tone cream colored sportster.. seeing it in person, it is a gorgeous bike and sounded better than any other Harley I've heard. It was genuinely music to the ears.
Finish it up with some Basani pipes, they make some that are black matte finish. They are louder than my dads Dynalow. The only thing is you have to switch to forward controls.
That it is a great looking bike. How is the 883 engine? Does it have enough power for taking a passenger along to long trips? I love the looks of the iron but my main concern is the 883 engine.
Looks magnificent. My uncle took me to a local motorcycle dealership to sit on some bikes and I sat on some crotch rockets and didn't like the riding position. Sat on a 06 Harley Sportster 883cc and the feel was fantastic. My feet touched the ground and it wasn't too heavy or light for me. I hope to get a sportster and ride it to school next year after I get my license.
I've been looking to buy an Iron for over two years now. Yesterday I passed by the dealership and picked up a clean 2010 w/ stage 1. I offered my Ducati Monster in part exchange, but he wouldn't give me anything interesting for it. So I now have an Iron and a Monster. Life’s a bitch like that sometimes :-)
Pisser is that the workshop is loaded so I can't pick up the Iron for at least a week. This is why I'm cruising YouTube to listen to your bikes - how sick is that?
I've had the Monster to 11 years. Great street bike. Light but powerful. Great handling - it's basically a sports bike without fairing, /w a good turning circle. A favorite of city couriers in the UK, where jam busting is what a bike is all about. Looks good. Easy to maintain. Reliable. I find the riding position painful after an hour now – let’s see if the Iron is any better or I end up trading for a bigger HD next year. Growing old is inevitable; growing up is optional & avoidable.
@parktow Replying to my own post. Even sicker! Picked up the bike today. OMG! Now I understand why the open face helmet is an essential accessory - good that I bought one for the occasion, had I worn a full face lid, my cheeks would have been rubbed raw with all that smiling. What a ride! Next week I'm gonna fit set of bad ass pipes, so others can share in my fun.
@parktow Far out, I am in the same position. I have found a Sportster I really like but they only want to offer me peanuts for my Monster so I am going to have to sell it privately. Thanks everyone for posting your inspirations. I never thought I'd ever covet a Harley, but I guess something just went click?
@alipontiac I bought this bike as my first bike. It is powerful but not too powerful. It is pretty light considering it is a harley, but as far as difficulty to ride? It isn't difficult to ride at all. After you get the butterflies out of your stomach and get over the fact that your learning to ride on a $12,000, if you finance, piece of machinery you will get it. Should you though? Well, a better place to start would be an older used one. Because you'll probably wreck at least once.
@alipontiac If you want to learn on a Harley sportster, you can get an older one that has pretty much the same technology as this one if you buy an 04 or newer. Realistically you'll spend anywhere from $3000-$5000 for a bike with anywhere from 5K-15k miles. If you have the cash and you just want to learn, a $1000 bike makes more sense financially. You aren't as terrified to drop your bike or ride it when it only costs a grand. There are a large assortment of bike in that range. Get a cruiser.
@alipontiac Yamaha, Honda, and Suzuki have all copied what Harley has done. An older Honda Magna or 750 Shadow are cheap and pretty reliable. Suzuki Intruder is the same was. Intruders used to be very reasonable. Yamaha V-Star 650s are also cheap and reliable. The Honda VTX 1300. All of these bikes are cheaper than Harleys and good learning candidates. But if you want to make a down payment on a HD then put your money toward one and get it, any of the XL883s are a great entry level bikes.
@alipontiac yep definetly. iron 883 was almost my beginner bike (apart from my scooter)
no problems at all. you be amazed how easy it is to ride this thing. and it gives a lot of confidence.
just find a parking lot and practice. you won't regret it. in fact the first thing you'll say is "yep i'm made the right choice and it feels goooood" :D
You Americans are lucky when it comes to Harleys atleast. I don't know what an average American earns but these harleys are alot more expensive in Europe! Will be a few years before i can afford a new one :)
@Johngu1tar As far as height-wise as long as you don't care about not having the extra power of a 1200 get the iron and throw forward controls on there. The bikes are pretty similar.
Wow that sounds amazing. I was debating between this bike and the Triumph Speedmaster -- both are blacked out, 800cc-class lightweight cruisers. I chose the Triumph. I can't help but think I made the wrong decision... haha
For me it's down to the 883 Sportster, a Honda ShadowVT750 or a Triumph America. I'm really leaning towards the 883HD. The prices are all comparable, it's just that the HD dealership is located so close to my home. It's a long ways to the Triumph dealership, the Honda dealer is quite a bit closer but it has a bad reputation, while the HD dealer has quite a good rep, like the owner of the dealership personally picked up my dad's bike & saw that it was repaired correctly & brought it back.Chrome.
Beautiful bike. I know next to nothing, so, is it big enough for a 6 foot, medium build guy? I've been told it's on the small side but I think it looks wicked and have heard it handles well so I'd love to get one, not for a few years though as I'm just a baby when it comes to bikes.
Since you asked in the comments: i still don't have my bike but i'm riding a 2002 Honda Hornet 600(my cousin's), a 2002 Suzuki GSX-R 600 and i've tried some days a 2004 Yamaha R1.
I hate people that buys gigantic Harley that are more similar to houses than bikes but i love these ones.
I also hate haters, why the fuck should we bother other ppl telling them their bike sucks? We're a big family, just ride safe and enjoy it!
the only thing that really puts me off my Iron is that ridge running down the middle of the tank..the tank is generally quite lumpy.. and those damn cigar exhausts!
Hello pballa555 i was just wondering if The pipes on your bike was stock I just bought one yesterday and wanted to know how it would sound thanks beautiful bike can not believe i own one
hello pballa555 I just bought this bike yesterday and I wondering if the pips on your bike are stock this is a beautful bike I can not believe I own one. Thanks
thats great, i want to buy one for cross country trips and also local driving...have you ever taken it off road.........that was the ultimate bike back in the day, then came bronson featured that bike, its great because it has the power but its not too heavy so its an ideal combo, but back then they broke down a lot, so im guessing they fixed those problems...but i want one where i can take it off road, like bronson did, cause i did the same thing back then, but i don't want the break downs
Beautiful. I've always wanted one, or a Dyna. I have a BMW R1100RT, a '96. It's leaking oil, rusting, punctures in both tires. Spent 300! on a new battery and special trickle charger a while back. There's something just perfect about the sportster.
arrghhhh im going to jizz. that bike is so beautiful I used to want a crotch rocket my whole life. I am starting to see its so dangerous driving anymore, its bad enough driving in a car anymore and I value my life so now I am really starting to love harley's, but I hate those loud ass harleys you can hear 50 miles away. I like this Sportser model because its not that loud, sounds nice, looks wonderful and looks comfy to ride.
@gus5985 I have a 1993 sportster 883 with mid controls and I have done a little over 250 miles in a straight shot (actually, it was a big loop) and only took time off the bike to fill it up. It was pretty comfortable, but sitting on anything for 4 hours can be a little tiring. I have a 350 mile trip planned in the coming months...we'll see how that works.
Graduating college in december.. I will be pinching my pennies to at least pay 50-60% down! This is my dream!! I've had about 5 dreams about this bike since I mentally committed to buy this bike a month ago. I can't wait! just go to deposit some bigger checks in my bank acct...
I got a sick deal on an '09 XL 1200R, otherwise I would have bought this bike. It is so wicked looking and vintage. I want to ride one!!! Congrats. Awesome bike, bro.
Great bike man, i just got my Iron 883 2010 my second bike. I just love the feeling cruising on the freeway without a care in the world with my ray bans on, gota keep the vintige look :) i have yamaha R6 2007 to, great acceleration, speed, perfomance bike but Harley my new love. Drive Safely, burn the tires and not your soul, take care.
@flagwaver1969 Nope, he just turned the key when you werent looking. That switch is just to distract you. =) Yes. Yes, the iron 883 has electronic ignition.
I have a Kawasaki Versys (all around bike), but would love to add one of these and a cbr1000 to my collection. I've always loved that classic, raw Harley look. Hope you enjoy it! Bikes are awesome; they're cheap enough that you can have one of each without breaking the bank..
Do you know how often your suppose to replace the belt? I once had a bike where the chain had to be re- tighten every 1,000 miles or so. It was a pain. I plan to buy this bike in the future
I think I'm going to get my motor-license this year. When I've got enough money (probably next year, around May), I'm going to buy one of these! Until then I'll ride my dad's almost 40 year old Moto Guzzi V7 Special. Cool bike too, just not mine :P Greetings from The Netherlands!
kick ass bike!! Ive been told the Sportster is a girly bike, but I would like to see people talk shit while I run 'em over on this girly bike!! This is a beautiful bike.. I need one
@lowgonn You gotta get the older carb version or throw a thundermax fuel management system if you want the loping sound. This is still a great bike though, I am going to move up to one of these or a "48".
@lowgonn I know thundermax fuel management is put on different harleys, just look up harley thundermax on youtube - you'll find tons. They are pricey as hell, but if you really want the harley loping, that's what you have to do or just get an older harley with a carb/non-efi.
I thinking of buying exactly the same bike! The design is fantastic... and the sound even more. Is it the originial sound??? Some people say the this bike has not enough power and one is more repairing then driving. What is your experience? Are you still satisfied? Kind regards from Spain
I ride a 2006 Harley Davidson Sportster XL883, Only thing i don't like are the handlebars. you gotta reach for them suckers man, oh and the teardrop tank. not enough fuel cpacity. but i love my bike man. I like that Black deniem paint on yours, thats kickass. i wannna get mine redone that color.
veramente complimenti per la moto!!! ottima scelta, a mio parere, tra i modelli Harley!! un giorno non molto lontano spero di poter fare la stessa cosa che hai fatto con la mia Harley!! la 883 iron è veramente la migliore!!!
im 20 and I just bought this as my first bike and its awsome.... Yea its harley's smallest engine but it looks awsome and if u need more power just spend $1500 on a conversion kit. Awsome bike man

You Americans are lucky when it comes to Harleys atleast. I don't know what an average American earns but these harleys are alot more expensive in Europe! Will be a few years before i can afford a new one :)

hi dude! nice black pearl u got there :)
tell me, for tall people like me (6,2) which one is the best?
2011 sporter forty-eight 1200, or 2010 iron 883 (like yours)
i never saw the both bikes together to compare :/
thank you
Johngu1tar 10 months ago
@Johngu1tar As far as height-wise as long as you don't care about not having the extra power of a 1200 get the iron and throw forward controls on there. The bikes are pretty similar.

Wow that sounds amazing. I was debating between this bike and the Triumph Speedmaster -- both are blacked out, 800cc-class lightweight cruisers. I chose the Triumph. I can't help but think I made the wrong decision... haha

Very sweet bike--I really like the Irons. Check out my sportster vids and let me know what you think....I'm clicking "THUMBS UP" for this!!
someharleyguy 11 months ago

I've been told it's on the small side but I think it looks wicked and have heard it handles well so I'd love to get one, not for a few years though as I'm just a baby when it comes to bikes.
monster762 11 months ago
Since you asked in the comments: i still don't have my bike but i'm riding a 2002 Honda Hornet 600(my cousin's), a 2002 Suzuki GSX-R 600 and i've tried some days a 2004 Yamaha R1.
I hate people that buys gigantic Harley that are more similar to houses than bikes but i love these ones.
I also hate haters, why the fuck should we bother other ppl telling them their bike sucks? We're a big family, just ride safe and enjoy it!

thats great, i want to buy one for cross country trips and also local driving...have you ever taken it off road.........that was the ultimate bike back in the day, then came bronson featured that bike, its great because it has the power but its not too heavy so its an ideal combo, but back then they broke down a lot, so im guessing they fixed those problems...but i want one where i can take it off road, like bronson did, cause i did the same thing back then, but i don't want the break downs

I like this Sportser model because its not that loud, sounds nice, looks wonderful and looks comfy to ride.

is this bike comfortable to go long distance? say 300km/220 miles. Thanks
gus5985 1 year ago
@gus5985 I have a 1993 sportster 883 with mid controls and I have done a little over 250 miles in a straight shot (actually, it was a big loop) and only took time off the bike to fill it up. It was pretty comfortable, but sitting on anything for 4 hours can be a little tiring. I have a 350 mile trip planned in the coming months...we'll see how that works.

It's obvious it's been a long time since I rode. Dumb question. They all have that now. I remember when you had to kick start every bike.

Cool bike too, just not mine :P Greetings from The Netherlands!

wheres the galloping sound?
lowgonn 1 year ago
@lowgonn You gotta get the older carb version or throw a thundermax fuel management system if you want the loping sound. This is still a great bike though, I am going to move up to one of these or a "48".
HondaRebellion 1 year ago
@HondaRebellion i see.
so, can it be on any bike?
lowgonn 1 year ago
@lowgonn I know thundermax fuel management is put on different harleys, just look up harley thundermax on youtube - you'll find tons. They are pricey as hell, but if you really want the harley loping, that's what you have to do or just get an older harley with a carb/non-efi.
HondaRebellion 1 year ago
